Hi all, I apologize if this has been asked a lot already. Any credible info on when Suffolk PD is planning on putting a class through the Academy? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Take care

Word at this point is no new class until 2010. This, as you will come to learn in government service, is subject to change (sometimes several times within the same day, in fact).

Definitely no class in 2008. I heard none in 2009 ther but it's not like I work in levy's office or anything. This is just what I hear from the bosses at work and PBA delegates

how many classes will be put in out of this new list?

In regard to the questions posed here. There will be no class this year and the Police Commissioner did not submit any request for a class in 2009 in his budget. There will have to be a class in 2010 and another in 2011 just to keep up with the anticipated retirements. Even with two classes the Dept will be significantly below what many believe to be a minimum number.
As a result it appears that there will only be two classes from this list before the next exam is given in June of 2011.
The candidates above the top score of 97.5, as a result of veteran credits and all the candidates at 97.5 will be in the running. The County will also get to the score of 95 with the second class but there may have to be a lottery since there are a considerable number of candidates at that score.
Right now we are only 8 months into the new list. There is a long time to go before 2011 and many things can happen to change the above but if there is a change it will be a third class of possible 50 sooner than 2010. It is possible that the Legislature may put the money into the budget for a class in 09 even though the Commissioner did not request it.
Your future PBA Reps will be doing a lot of lobbying of the Legislators to put a class in.

Re: lobbying of the legislature. I've also had my friends and family wirte/E-mail the legislature about public safety, the dangerously low number of Police, and the need to get an academy class in sooner rather than later.
I do not write myself because it is self-serving...
I suggest anyone interested in an academy class going in sooner rather than later do the same... there's nothing like the people making demands of the legislature. Remember, its the squeky wheel that gets the oil.

A great idea. Where did you find the address/email address?
I don't think the common person realizes that to make up for the lack of a class, precincts have to give more OT, and OT costs more than paying the regular salary of a rookie. People just think, less cops, less tax dollars.

On 9/15 The Co Ex submits the 2009 budget to the Legislature. There will be no money in there for a police class in 09. The Leg. can add money in. If they don't there will be only two classes from the current list.

"emailed lindsay off that website, got an email back from his chief of staff saying no decisions have been made about 09 and that was it. waste of 30 minutes writing that email."
its never a waste of time.
and in this case it definitely was not a waste of time.
now is the time for everyone to carpet them with emails and phone calls.
"no decisions have been made".
that means they're still open. which means that if enough people email them and phone them, they will have to give consideration to the "voice" of the people.
