Where can someone go to get involved in the D party. I hate to say it but In the past they have been terrible following up on my requests to volunteer. It seems that if you are not on someones "A" list they justdo not respond!

The easiest place is with your local legislator's office, or the candidate running for that office. Those races will be starting up by April. Show up at the office and ask what you can do.
There will certainly be an active Assessor's race next year, and the dem candidate wil need all the help he can get. Same advice - show up - if necessary twice.

If you are in Suffolk County there is a Suffolk County Young Dems Club. They could also put you in touch with the County Committee and your local Town Committee. You can try calling Suffolk County Democratic Committee to ask them about the Young Dems. That is the best place to start.

The Nassau Young Democrat Club is a closed shop. There's no responsiveness unless you're connected to thr president. There was no help from them for the candidates this past year.
Call Dem HQ. They can help you start a YD club and put you in touch with quite a number of young Dems who feel as you do.
The party could use the infusion of enthusiastic new blood.

according to King Jay the Nassau County Democratic Committee has a volunteer list.
However, I called in the spring, summer and early fall to volunteer for candidates and never got a return call. One time I actually got a person on the phone that told me to call the candidates themselves to volunteer.
When I asked how to get in contact with candidtates I was told "I don't know. Maybe look them up in phone book."

You are correct. For a long time this has been going on. I called numerous times and got "someone will get back to you." It never happens.

why is it so hard for "new" people to get involved in the Young Democrats on Long Island? Because the few people that already have control over the clubs feel threatened by fresh new faces. The less young, politically involved, ambitious democrats around, the less competition for them in thr own political careers. After reading the above and experiencing the same, i feel this is a very logical explanation.

There is a Suffolk County Young Dems Club. They are not active because they are just starting to reorganize. There was one in the past and they were active and strong. Now one is starting to reorganize and we'll have to see if they become active and strong.

young dems are not involved for one simple reason. the republicans in nassau county always had summer jobs to give out to young people, and in return the young reps would do what they ask. The dems just aren't at a point where they have anything to offer young people to get involved cause they inherited an absolute mess from the republicnas and have nothing to give
