Here we are, less than 10 months away from a presidential election, and one of the biggest issues (if not the biggest issue) concerning our domestic security and economy has been relegated to a non-issue!

I'm referring to the illegal (and soon to be legal) immigration problem facing this nation. None of the major political candidates will mention or discuss this most important issue. Candidates debates do not include the topic, and s are polite enough to not question any of the candidates on the subject. Candidates won't even question each other on the issue. This is like the "don't ask...don't tell" policy on gays in the military for heaven sake. From conservatives to liberals, from the president to congressmen, senators, governors, and anyone in between, this is the one topic that is the ultimate taboo. The media also does a great job of avoiding the issue pretty much altogether with the exception of a few columnists who have the guts to speak out one way or the other. Polls have shown that most Americans believe this is an important issue...so why is it not addressed? Why are our politicians allowing themselves to be held hostage by pro-immigration activists?

What do I want? I want the candidates for president to debate and discuss the pros and cons of increasing immigration into this country. I don't even care which side of the issue they come down on, I just want them to discuss the issue! I think the American public deserves to hear what each and every candidate plans to do about increasing or decreasing immigration in the future. I want the political correctness to stop, and I want the candidates to stop bng spineless ostriches and pretending immigration is not an issue in this country. I want newspapers and journalists to do thr jobs and ask the tough questions of candidates so the American people will know thr position on the issue. I believe that the thorough airing of this issue will free politicians from the immigration issue straightjacket they are presently wearing. Americans truly deserve better.

I don't believe it, Reality - I actually AGREE with you on something!!!

I can honestly say that I don't know where I stand on this issue. There are pros and cons and so much grey area - that's why I haven't participated in any of the discussions on the subject. I'd love to see the candidates speak out about it. I'd really like to hear thr reasoning as to why they feel the way they do (like you, I don't care which side), and how THEY will handle it. I think waiting until AFTER the Iowa caucuses is a huge mistake.

Ask Bush he wants to give amnesty to all of the illegals, I agree, surprised nobody asks the candidates what is thr position on this, probably because some of the illegals work for the newspapers shoveling the office parking lot

It is a tough issue, you don't want ten living in a house in your nghborhood, yet they do get treated like garbage from thr employers

I say go after the businesses that use these illegals, they get tax free workers, not liable if they get injured and they pay them dirt money, those are the real scumbags, the businesses
