Holtsville is soooo corrupt that they even volunteer to go on fire calls, and even ambulance calls too!!! wow for free even at that....real corrupt..imagine what taxes would be if we had a paid service...just compare your Police services to your Fire and Ambulance serviceson your tax bill. Do you really thnk a paid ambulance service is going to treat you and transport you to the hospital for FREE?????? get real, Nassau police Ambulance's will charge you from somewhere between 300.00 to 2,000.00 to go to the hospital, god forbid you need a helicopter. Just take a good look at your tax bill and appreciate the little bit you pay for someone to save you or your family's life for no additional charges, then you can figure out how corrupt Volunteer Fire Departments are.

Sorry, but you obviously have not seen how the rest of the country and the entire world pretty much works. Paid systems are not only more cost effective, but are held to much higher standards then the no standards policy that department like Holtsville currently have. At the very least, the fact that the head commissioner is sleeping with one of his employees while still being a married man with children is beyond comprehension as to how this individual has not resigned from not only the board, but the department as well. The county has spent tens of thousands of dollars on getting new recruits for membership to volunteer Fire Departments and Ambulace Companies, and yet what do they see when they join ? They see just how far people will go to destry the name and reputation of an organization.

The Chairman of the board has a very, very big ego issue. just the other day i heard that he confronted some members who where mounting a scanner on the wall authority of one of the higher ups. he said something along the lines of these are my walls and you ain't gonna mount shit on them....

Holtsville fire department is a very scary place.... besides the large percentage of incompetency the commissioners believe that they are the chiefs of the place......

If the people of the district knew the facts of how our commissioner is away this weekend in Baltimore with the person who is suppose to be our paid fist responder, they would flip. Commissioners and officers are suppose to be held to higher standards of conduct. By him being a commisioner, it is a direct conflict of interest by going out with someone whom directly works for him and the board. Not only should he excuss himself from votes on paid people issues, but should directly remove himself from the board and go back to being a firefighter. There is NO WAY that by him being in his position of authority over someone whom he is directly responsible for, can fair and balanced decissions be made with regards to issues concerning the needs that the board is responsible for.
I'm curious, who exactly is paying for her and all her expenses to go to Baltimore and what room is she staying in and who paid for that.
As for Joe's personal life, sorry Joe, your an elected official that must answer to the people of the community whom you serve. Remember, they voted you in and they can vote you out....

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The city of Vallejo, California, filed for bankruptcy on Friday, a move signaled by its city council earlier this month as it struggles to avoid running out of money amid steep city personnel costs.
The fate of Vallejo - official motto: “City of Opportunity” - has sent shock waves across the country as scores of other local authorities also struggle to balance the books in the face of slumping incomes.
Councillors took the drastic step because falling property tax revenues mean they can no longer pay the generous salaries negotiated for firefighters and police officers during the flush years.
Fearful of contagion, municipal officials across the US are looking with nervousness at the precedent-setting experience of Vallejo, a city of about 120,000 people, 30 miles north of San Francisco. in a region that was once synonymous with economic prosperity.
It had already cut funding for old people’s homes, libraries, museums and street repairs in an effort to cover its payroll, and its hard-pressed citizens now face reduced police and fire response teams as officials try to re-negotiate their debts.
Residents even sought divine intervention, holding a prayer service before a recent crisis council meeting, but to no avail.
Exorbitant wage deals for its emergency services workers, whose salaries and benefits account for 80 per cent of the annual $89 million budget. The police captain earns more than $300,000 and a sergeant takes home $240,000. The average firefighter earns $171,000 and 10 senior officers were paid more than $200,000 each.
Vallejo's plight stems from rising pay for police and firefighters under current labor contracts, including minimum staffing requirements, which have caused overtime compensation to increase. Police and firefighting salaries, pension and overtime consume almost 80 percent of Vallejo's $89 million general fund budget. Cities in California on average spend about 60 percent of their budgets on firefighter and police salaries, according to the League of California Cities.
City and labor union officials have been meeting since January to revise the existing contracts. The unions have balked at pay cuts. By filing for bankruptcy, Vallejo is asking a judge to step in and force salary concessions from the labor unions.
The big problem is said to be contracts with police, firefighters and other unions. General fund revenue is expected to be $77.9 million, less than the $79.4 million needed for labor contracts, not to mention other costs.
Vallejo, with a population of 117,000, faces ballooning labor costs and declining housing-related tax revenue. The city expects a $16 million deficit for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
Police and firefighting salaries, pensions and overtime consume more than 80 percent of the city's $89 million general fund budget.

First of all that person does not show up to alarms 10-15 minutes after the alarm. When this person responds he actually shows up to go on the alarm, unlike a select few. This person also does not hang around 24/7 because this person has a life unlike you believe the person does not. We are not talking about the past, we are speaking of now and the issues of today. And I also believe DEPARTMENT TRAINING COMES BEFORE SOFTBALL!!!We are down here to be of service to others not to play little softball games.
wtf99999
08-01-2008, 03:33 AM
Well first of all EVOC is not a mandatory class. It is not a prerequisite for any other class given in the county. Second of all the EVOC class was NOT a department training. If it was then only department members would have been open to it. Not anyone outside the dept. Thirdly the softball jerseys say HOLTSVILLE FD on them. Not FARMINGVILLE, not NORTH PATCHOGUE, it says HOLTSVILLE FD so if people want to play softball let them. For a while now the softball schedule was posted or games were mentioned on dates that would conflict with softball. Softball games were set in place before the next months calendar was even out. So officers and chiefs got together and worked around it. What is the big deal. Get your facts straight before you open your mouth.

I apoligize let me re-phrase that, I was not speaking of LIFE MEMBERS or ex-Cheifs..I am talking about the ones who think they are above all and don't have to do jackshit around the place beacause of who they think they are. For the Truck issue I think you have the wrong person on this one. On another issue that another person brought up with the softball and adding on it..Why is the department letting members who are in the red more than just once and who are NOT life members(b/c they have earned there right's) keep on playing if they cannot keep there department status up to par?

If you have a problem with an individual, confront him or her. A little communication and understanding goes a long way. I try to get along with everyone and if someone acts like a dick, sure i bitch, but i also confront the person. Instead of working so hard and wasting energy trying to divide this department apart, lets try to get the moral, and the brotherhood going again.Whether youre there all day or when you can at night,we are VOLUNTEERS and all there to do a job!!! peace out brothers and sisters

Trust me , Heather gone would be no great loss. it's amazing how the department board allows a single individual to change what time they start because THEY have issues with child care. What happened to serving the community ?'m sure our local leaders would love to here how our Chief Commisioner bends all the rules for him and his girlfriend. Lets see, need I mention Baltimore ? or what happened to Selden with mis use of funds....

Why would we go paid. You would be the only paid department in the county. Even if you were paid you would get minimum wage. That doesn't cut it with gas prices now a days. long island will not nor will it ever be paid. you all bitch and moan about joe and heather joe and heather. wah. deal with it. all the people complaining about them its old. find something else to argue about like for the fact why certain people have been in the red for 3-4 months now and havent been taken care of.i dont kno why everyone keeps complaining about the comm. they are doing their job. it isnt your job to worry about.if you want to worry about it then run for the position at the end of the year. i doubt anyone of you can do any better

Whoever stated the BOFC are doing there job is correct, but they are also trying to do everyone elses job, including the chiefs, officers and members, oh wait they are members if you believe that. Get back to the original topic and stop hurting our "BROTHERHOOD" As for you on the BOFC,(especially you ex-chiefs), you should be ashamed of yourselves for going over the head of a Chief of departments decisions.

Get your facts straight before you open your mouth.
yeah you're right EVOC isn't mandatory .... and if you can fly an airplane then driving a fire truck is a piece of cake..... and seriously EVOC next they are going to make you take FF1 or something stupid like that...

It is about time the Holtsville Fire Department got off their asses and started 24/7 Paid ALS.. It is what most departments are doing. There are many reasons for doing it.... NO guarantee on a volunteer response, if joe volunteer decides that drain babies are more important than getting out on an ALS job then he is entitled to stay home and make baby batter. It is ridiculous to not have a guarantee that 24/7 someone intelligent will be at my doorstep in a few minutes rather than 10 or 12 from the time the 911 call is placed!!!
time = tissue death and you might as well leave a patient who has been without O2 for more than 10 minutes because they will end up a vegetable anyway..
Maybe if we could back on the nonsense stuff like sending the district secretary to conventions, or hiring high priced attorneys to prosecute our own members, or maintaining a tech rescue team full of pre schoolers, or building a fucking storage shed for a piece of apparatus that will rot back there, or a fucking 20,000 dollar digital sign for the front, or a towable grill, or fixing our repair prone KME ladder truck that only has highway miles on it because it has spent the majority of its life going back and forth to Pennsylvania , or pizza and heros at the commissioners very stressful practice sessions, or some good ol boy to paint a stairwell then repaint it again for a few grand because the color wasn't liked, or fuel for the DM to go play chief up north in our car, and drum roll please............. the biggest waste of taxpayer dollars the extremely useful ...... 5-11-2... hahaha what a piece if only every taxpayer knew how useful that is , with its ergonomic joystick for point and shoot operation of a bumper mounted deck gun or my favorite the ground sprayers... I wonder how many steak dinners where had on the duncan dime to sign for that thing .... I wonder what sales approach he took to sell those fools..... well what ever it was it worked because it now resides in holtsville with its brother and sister misfit apparatus..

i never said that 7 wasn't in tip top condition.....when they got it it had already seen a few large fires. let me tell you about the sticks and the negatives about them what purpose will they serve if somethin like that is first due. considering manpower during the day it is a waste. you show up to a working fire with that you are at a dead end. for example you are light crew during the day. you need a search team and hose team typically that is how we train right? now the fire gets out of hand and you have to go to an exterior attack. now you have changed everything. the truck now has to be leveled and in order to do that taken out of pump leveled and then put back into pump and back into operation. by that time you might as well let the fire burn itself out. also supposing we do get that one commercial job and the 75 foot stick doesnt reach now you have to mutual aid a bigger ladder to the scene waste of time again. oh and dont say that we would get a 100 footer because you might as well put that bucket back on the end of it. the water tank serves as filling the pipe while they set up for a water operation. dont you know anything. if 7 was higher up in the resonse order maybe it would get out more. dont forget we only get to either 1st due or 2nd due and then the alarm is either put under control. sometimes we just get cancelled they seriously need to move things around in that order. oh and the 97 thing was just a random guess because that is what it sounds like

This is an embarrassment and all of you should be ashamed of yourselves. Any department issues should be just that--department issues. Any conflict between department and BOFC should be resolved--behind closed doors. Any conflict between individuals addressed member to member. Every lifer, ex-chief or long term member, don't forget you were new once too. To the "children", you are the future of the place, but still have a lot to learn, so embrace those who are willing to guide you, and don't bad mouth those who forgot where they once were. Most of all, be proud of what you are doing and do NOT fall into this ridiculous child-like behavior. No, the volunteer system is not perfect, and never will be, but this is what we have and that is why it is even more important to work out problems internally, without this backstabbing bullshit that does nothing but make us all look like morons who are deserving of demeaning volunteer comments. All we can do is be our best.

Try to work out your marriage for your family and dont just look for some piece of ASS.
WRONG again 85% of the US is served by volunteer FD, and that number increases by 5-10% wordwide. Look it up if you can read.
