This time around, there's a new twist.

Levy, the pennypincher's pennypincher, has given the college no additional county funding. (In contrast, the Nassau legislature voted yesterday to approve the budget submitted by the college trustees and County Executive Tom Suozzi, giving Nassau Community College a 3.9 percent increase.)

But Levy isn't focusing on how much new county money he is not giving the college. Instead, he is chirping about the bang-up job his budget staff did in peeking behind the fiscal curtain and finding ways to make it better.

Levy says his staff found a $2.3 million audit adjustment and wants to use $600,000 of it to cut the tuition increase from $120 to $80, $531,000 to pay for increased energy and utility costs, and $1 million to increase the reserve fund.



See, Levy says, if the county were unable to alter line items in the college budget, beneficence like that wouldn't be possible. He's miffed that the college is suing the county to rescind a one-of-a-kind agreement that gives the county too much ability to meddle. But the college has no choice: Its accrediting agency says the agreement has to go, but Levy and the legislature have refused to budge.

As to Levy's beneficence, the college says that its auditors found the audit adjustment, not Levy, and that his budget proposal leaves a gap of more than $1 million between revenues and expenditures - a big problem for next year.

Whether Levy or the college turn out to be right about the dollars and cents in this budget, we do believe the college would be better off if Levy couldn't

The college is shaped like a mushroom, all the money is on the top, making it very top heavy with all kinds of Vice presidents , Deans and Administrators.
The bottom of the mushroom is weak, which means less services for students.
Mr. levy should start by cutting off from the top and establishing a solid base....the mushroom is rotting and ready to topple, lets hope it goes the way of JJ foley, and if it does, you can blame the college administration and the Board.

All those new administrators and all the raises for the management group and all the positions are the bottom and in between remain unfilled.

Shirley Pippkins is a figurehead traveling all over the country on her $215000 salary ($over $30,000 more than the Co Exec.) She's running a community college. Levy is running the County including the college.

Pippins has been told to do your thing, we'll run the college, by Gutta, Stien and Moore. As a result she knows nothing about what is going on, the salaries of everyone on top keep going up with extra raises and there are fewer and fewer people to do the work.

While they were talking good things about her she was conniving and scheming to suspend her executive vp Lydia. Do you think Dr Pippins would stand behind someone who has discrimination charges pending against them. Cmon Dr Pippins be careful of the company you keep you don't want it to be a reflection on you!

AT l everyone who works for the COUNTY has gotten a raise. Oh yae I forgot The only ones who have not had a raise in salary since January 1, 2003 are the SUFFOLK COUNTY CORRECTION OFFICERS. They only work in the jail with prisoners, inmates all around them no matter where they work in the jail. Levy is the worst CE ever. Give thsoe brave souls who deal with inmates (murderers, rapists, burglers, thieves, robbers, illegal aliens and anyother people arrested in SUFFOLK COUNTY). DOnt they deserve a raise after all the cost of living has risen in the last 5 years so much.

BRAVO TO THOSE INDIVIDUALS STILL WORKING THERE ON A 2003 SALARY. HAYS OFF TO YOU ALL AND I DO HOPE YOU GET A DECENT RAISE SOON.

Felice is bng honored because I'm sure her and pippy are trying to figure out a way tio get rid of the county employees at the college, Pippy wants to control the budget and the employees. But I'm sure she will keep that useless Savona around!

Get the facts. The discrimination charges are filed by a dishonest & unelectable executive vp who will do anything to discredit people that stand in her way. The charges will be deemed frivolous, and malicious. Dr. Pippins is intelligent enough to know and see that. Besides you're innocent until proven guilty, and no discrimination charges have been or will be proven. The executive vp was miffed that she wasn't going to be on the next election slate. NO one elected her as executive vp, (she moved up by succession) and no one every will.
