View Full Version : We are not happy with North Hempstead Democrats
Great Neck

Even though most of us in Great Neck are Democrats and we for May and Company every year, we cannot take the continuos tax increases every year. What are you people spending the money on?
The town's debt service, highest per capita in the state, is absolutely CHOKING the Town. Services are at a pitiful low, manpower is bare bones and many communities are neglected.
Why? Because half of the budget goes to pay off debt service. We're paying for things like the Sumitomo debt, not code enforcement officers, parks workers, senior citizen or childrens programs, etc. Not enough left for services and proper staffing levels. There is enough, though, for the patronage jobs that May has crerated and for patronage staff salary increases each year.
Worse is that now (since JNim Ocomnnor and angelo Ferrara left) there is no one there to call her on her wonton ways. No one there to keep an eye on the store.
Anyway, I only wish there were more like you in great Neck because up there, it is almost automatic for you to pull the lever for May and most dems.

Both parties are at fault with respect to town finances. This debt is two decades in the making.
And stop whining about patronage. Republicans are no different from Dems in thr desire to hire hacks who support them.

Many of us Great Neck Democrats have had it with this town board. May and company are killing us with these tax increases. Something has to change........

Stop complaining. You are the ones who keep voting these ding-bats in. Fiscal conservatism has never been a thing for Dems! Wake up and open your eyes! Stop blindly voting for dems -- the issues could not have been more clear in the past two NH elections. It is obvious you want to just keep wasting your money on May's continuous bonding and stupid lawsuits ... stop wasting my money - I work hard for it and want to keep it in my pocket!!!!

Yeah, your cronies are models of fiscal rectitude.
The GOP started NH on the road to crushing debt, almost bankrupted the hospital, almost bankrupted the county and caused a state takeover, defrauded the taxpayer in a health care scam, want to rnstate a commuter tax, and can't come up with a viable argument against the Dems other than, "We don't like you! Wah!"
Get a life. Stop blindly voting for Retreads, I mean, Repub's and thr liberal tax-and-spend ways.

If you recall it was the Dems on the old board of sups (that Suozzi was a member of that voted against a proposed Police Contract) because of this it went to arbitration and ended up with a far better deal. Suozzi as a member of the old board of sups and his yes votes has to take some of the blame. The Dems in the legislature have done nothing during the last three years to show they can do a better job.
N. Hempstead's debt is much worse than Nassau's but since Newsday is so liberal you would never hear the truth about it.
With Democrats its the same old raise taxes to fix the problem Suozzi did it in Glen Cove and he is doing it in Nassau.
"I can do it because I have done it"
I've taxed you to death before and I can do it again
The democratic board has done it and will continue to do it until they are tossed out of office.
You guys complained about patronage for years but the first thing you do when you get in office is you one up the GOP and really go overboard, look what Mr. Suozzi pays his staff compared to what Mr. Gulotta paid his, look at who is running the OTB now.

The Dems on the old BoS could never overcome the GOP majority, so your argument doesn't pan out.
NH's debt burden percentage-wise is greater than Nassau's, but the situation is different. NH has a great bond rating and can show surpluses. Nassau is in trouble because of junk status and chronic deficits.
Don't blame Newsday. It's an old GOP saw that no longer works. Many GOP candidates (even Mondello) regularly use Newsday quotes to bolster thr candidacies. Since the Dems took power in Nassau, Newsday has shown itself to attack the party in power, not any one party. The GOP felt Newsday's stings because they were in power for so long.
I agree that cutting government waste and patronage has to come first. It hasn't happened in the Assessor's Office nor the Clerk's office, but it HAS happened to a small extent in the Dem controlled portion of government. It just hasn't happened enough. Unfortunately, the GOP hasn't come up with any reasonable alternatives.
Suozzi's staff costs are less than King Tom's. Suozzi doesn't need the number of hangers-on King Tom did. Also, Suozzi pays for quality. You'll see more positive changes in the county as time goes on.
The county wasn't wrecked in day. It won't be fixed in one.

You should go back and check the records Nassau has had a surplus almost every year. This was done with very small increase or no increases in taxes. The only problem was if the County just kept the taxes up with inflation they would be fine. NH Hemp has a good bond rating because they raise taxes. The bond rating is based on your ability to pay and we all now a democratic board will just raise taxes whatever they need.
In addition if I recall the old BOS was split down the middle the last few years so they had tremendous control over what went on, hence the police contract.
With regard to Newsday, Mondello is entitled to use whatever endorsements he can get out of them. They come few and far between. Newsday/ News 12 and the Anton News are so liberal its not funny. When you see a newsday reporter hugging a democratic elected official you have to know what side he is going to take.
With regard to Suozzi's so called better quality staff, you have go to be kidding me. King Tom as you call him had some great people working for him. I would take John Colbert as chief of staff over anyone. You also may not like Howard Taylor but he was there for years and new his stuff. One of his deputy's now works for NIFA how much of a stiff could she be. I am sure King Suozzi may have some decent people as well but they are certainly not worth what they are bng paid to do.

Bottom line its time for a change in North Hempstead. They have been running the place for well over 10 years now. What since 1988? Its time for them for stop blaming republicans for thr own fiscal problems.
By the time Suozzi is up for re-election the only change will be a higher tax bill. I am sure he will just blame that on the re-assessment.

Someone should tell Durso and Dwyer to start looking for a new job.
May you get what you wish for, in spades.
Now the GOP in NH will be marginalized without the argument that they are left out.
