oldtimer gone

Read this in Newsday. Great for Oceanside and the Fire Service.
Christopher Michael Costigan, 28, of Baldwin, applied to the seminary thinking he had to give it a try and "get it out of my system."
Five years later, he is on the cusp of being ordained a priest.
He said that he'd been thinking about the priesthood "off and on" for years, and often came to the conclusion that "it's not for me."
But the nagging thoughts would not go away.
He is a fourth-generation volunteer member of the Oceanside Fire Department, where he also has served as an EMT. He attended St. Christopher Elementary School in Baldwin, Chaminade High School, and Notre Dame University, where he was involved in organizing liturgies.
He said the priests and seminarians from the Holy Cross order at Notre Dame played a role in convincing him to enter the seminary. And now that he is about to be ordained, he is thrilled.
"I never saw myself doing a Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 job," he said.
