When I came over from nypd, one of my ftos told me You made it ..I told him I didnt feel that way yet. He said, in the city they hated you because they were animals. I am a civilian and let me say that everyone I have spoken to have expressed concern for the officer. This Officer had stopped a drunk driver (who are the cause of most fatal accidents on our roadways) and was doing his job when another drunken P.O.S ran over him. While I don't know of all the circumstances that led the NCPD officer to be on the LIE, I believe I know he wasn't a Highway Patrol Officer who had the necessary experience to protect himself from the dangers of the LIE. He is a 2nd precinct patrol officer. If this officer was some how now obligated to be on the LIE because of a possible slowdown, then the NCPD may share some of the blame for this. We won't know this unless all the facts are given as to why that officer was there. Maybe a NCPD officer would care to share thr opinion on that question.

PS, I hear the reports of his 'death' have been greatly exaggerated. He is supposedly doing fine and the guys I spoke to are heartened by his progress.

heres your answer knucklehead, we work the entire county, and if the LIE, Sunrise Highway, Seaford Oyster Bay expressway....etc.. happen to be in our pct we work them, regardless if we are assigned to Highway, , Special Ops, a specific pct. or headquarters for that matter we work the entire county.

1963 rookie in the police academy. This kid who lived a couple of down made a remark he was going to get me because I was a cop. My mother took care of him as he was bng raised by his working grandmother. He was like a little brother. He got bigger and so did I. Couple of detectives came around for something and I mentioned this to them when they asked me how I liked the job. WHO SAID THAT! I mentioned it to them and told them how disappointed I was. They went into the house and kicked the shit out of the kid. I couldn't believe it.

Big Brown's future in the racing history books remains unclear for two weeks, but the colt's owners are making sure the financial future of a Nassau police officer's son will never be in doubt.

Michael Iavarone and Richard Schiavo announced Friday that they will donate a portion of the thoroughbred's potential Belmont Stakes earnings to help the 6-year-old son of Kenneth Baribault, the police officer injured Sunday when his cruiser was struck by an alleged drunken driver on the Long Island Expressway.

The police officer remains in critical but stable condition at Nassau University Medical Center in Meadow and may undergo another pelvic surgery next week, a hospital representative said.

Iavarone said the donation will "secure the security" of Baribault's son, Christopher, "for the rest of his life."



He declined to say how much would be donated, saying that would be discussed with the family in private. A first-place finish of the Belmont pays $620,000. But after the news conference he added, "We're going to be doing a lot more than Belmont. That's why I didn't want to release [that information]. Because it's not about the money."

Baribault's sisters Danielle Rella and Jennifer Baribault, his son, who donned a purple Nassau County Police Department baseball cap, and the boy's mother, Kendra Sauvola, attended the announcement at Belmont Park but declined to speak. Baribault's parents were with the officer at the hospital.
