I think the government currently is set up so it doesn't have to answer to anyone, especially the American people. Look at how sheltered Bush has been from the MASSIVE protests that have spanned his entire presidency. He simply avoids them. What good is a protest if the person you're protesting doesn't even need to see you?

Have you ever written your congressman? How about the President or his cabinet? You get a bulk letter in response, which never addresses the meaning of your letter (and occasionally responds to comments that you didn't make). How many people's letters do you think are ACTUALLY read by anyone who gives a crap? I'll bet very few, except for those coming from people who made big campaign contributions.

It's like ANY corporation. People are constantly afraid to upset the boss, so they don't share anything with him that might upset him, or doesn't fit his personal prejudices. The further up the chain you go, the less accurate information is conveyed. It's like the blind leading the scared.

Again...How is this different from any other administration or congressmen you've had?

I agree with you that it would be really nice if someone, anyone who represents us would listen once in a while, but those days are over. Once elected, a congressman is pretty much guaranteed re-election unless he's arrested or disgraced in some way. Until that changes, nothing will change. Get used to bng ignored...its the American way.

I don't agree with your reasoning about this awful tragedy not bng different from any other president.

Throughout the 20th Century, while the people were becomming smarter and generally less ignorant, the US government has become less and less of a representative democracy and more of a tsarist regime. If you think that's crazy sounding, look up the definition of tsar in the dictionary. It fits quite well.

But I really take issue with that logic. It really shows how you view politics as a battle. Good against evil, right against wrong, etc. I am NOT sayign that George Bush is the only president to be disconnected from the people he represents. But I AM saying that he's the worst offender to date.

But how can you defend this? Or are you just so cynical that you recognize that the country we have now is NOT the free society our founding fathers had in mind, but you think nothing can or should be done to fix it.

George W. Bush is the disease, not the cure.

I come from a upper middle class family. I fought in Iraq, my brother is currently serving the Marine Corps also. I went to boot camp with many wealthy kids. They aren't all middle class and below. In fact most of the kids I went to School of Infantry with were from upper middle class. We even had a 26 yr. old who was a millionaire. But I guess because we came from a family with money we are cowards? Did you serve in the military or presently serving? If not, why in the hell are you making such accusations?
