It would be nice to think that someone at FRES has finally realized or has finally got the guts to admit that Belle never had the correct qualifications for the job. Please do not worry about her, I have no doubt that it is only a matter of time before she shows up on another government (county, township, SCWA, OTB, special ((fire or otherwise)) district) payroll and probably at more money.
The important question is "who is next ?". Do we (the taxpayers and the fire/EMS personnel) get another political hack or another "Good Old Boy" ex-chief whose only qualifications are that he is an ex-chief ????????
Here is a radical idea, How about we get someone who has qualifications that are related to the position.
Let's start with long term (30 + years) involvement in and commitment to the volunteer service in Suffolk County. And that involvement should not require any service as a chief, as service as a chief does NOT guarantee that the individual has any knowledge, abilities or skills required by the position being discussed. As someone stated on another post, the only thing that it does guarantee is that at a point in time, that individual was the most popular (for one or more of many reasons) and/or was the lesser of two evils.
Then let's add considerable high level specialized fire training in general ICS and considerable high level specialized ICS training in the areas of terrorism, large scale Haz-mat, and disasters: made-made and natural.
Finally, and as important as the first two, let's add extensive Fire service related training AND formal education in the areas of business/public administration AND management AND leadership.
All of this may sound like alot but it is not. It is what the position requires, it is what "WE" (as taxpayers and as providers of the Fire/EMS Services) deserve and it is what is necessary to have someone who could handle whatever should happen.
People with these qualifications DO exist ( I personally know atleast 2 or 3) and if the position were to be open to the public, I am sure that they would apply.
So, come on Joe, stand up and make us all proud again !!!

Considering the article in today's Newsday (pg. A19), which states that a NYS commission is calling for "requiring counties to consider assuming more control of their local fire services", it would seem to make the choice for the next deputy commissioner that much more important. What "we" need is NOT another political hack NOR a "good old boy" - but one who has the experience, training and education to "fight fire with fire" (pun definitely intended). The question now appears to be : Does Uncle Joey have the balls to stand up to King Stevie and select someone who help him get the volunteer fire service through this latest attack ??

Are you mad at Steve Levy or Joe Williams, I think you are a highway cop . Do you want Joe Williams telling you what to do if you are a chief, I do not think so. What I think so is you are the guy who did not get elected to the 2nd Lt. spot or the 32 /33 spot You want to be part of he good old boy party , but you did not make it ass hole. go back and sit in the back of the room and talk about how it would have been if you were CHIEF SHIT HEAD . You are the same guy who posted the answer above, and no one answered , so you answered yourself JERK
