Our harrassment training was put in place months ago, not 2 weeks ago and it was from the last incident of harrassment which was the Chief and the last 2 Caps. from Rescue. It was in the papers, be real, who has ever seen the commisioners move this fast. As for the chief being 'fair', he is only fair to himself, he left the fire early, gave a speech at installation that made us all look stupid. He blames salmander for everything and cannot see that this whole dept. hates him. He's a wuss. He hides behind his shield. The worst thing that could have ever happened was him being elected. We tried to do a write in and get him out and all the other companies wussed out. 2 caps gone under him. He should have made the block party thing go away, instead he put another chief on suspension. How was harrassment training anyone want to report. It started already. You know the class you will get suspended for if you miss it so says our Chief. Plus he will suspend you if you are near an alarm while fire school is going on. Another problem that reverts to Rescue 90% of the problems in this Dept stem from Rescue. Capt harrasses someone now we all have to suffer and take this training. Remember Rescue threatening to leave the Dept and become an independent ambulance company when they lost 245. That would be the best thing to happen to this Dept is for Rescue to disappear. Rescue has been trouble and problems for as long as i can remember. Remember when Engines had to go to signal 9s because Rescue is unreliable. Burden after burden rescue places on the rest of the Dept. This current Chief is worthless and useless. Thankfully he will be gone in a few months and be just a bad memory. 2008 the year of the Great OFD Depression.

Who was at Rescue durring Fire School? This person should be suspended. Why is their QUARTERS (wont use term firehouse, you need firefighters to have a firehouse) open during Dept ops. My firehouse is closed during Dept ops like they all should be. Who is this person who admiited it on the rant. Why is he not disciplined. What has happened to this Dept? There is no commradery or morale. Noone ever has a positive thing to say the overall attitude is mostly misery. We have a Chief that is all business. There is no doubt the need for serious leadership most of the time but at the same time you can also try to make things enjoyable. This current Chief just writes memos, wont even come to company meetings and has distanced the Chiefs Office from the membership. I remember this Dept coming out strong and I dont mean for alarms. Everyone joined this Dept to go to calls and ride fire trucks. I mean turning out for Dept functions. Thats how you judge morale. I remember packed Installation Dinners, great picnics at the Field with members and their families having a great time, marching in parades with 100+ strong in membership. Heck i remember a Baldwin parade a few years ago in the dog days of August it was nearly 100 degress out and we over 100 members in the line of march and Point Lookout we had over 100 members marching. This wont happen today. Just look at the Depts pathetic turnout for the County Memorial services this year. Members in my company are saying they are not doing Memorial Day clean up this year and its a shame. My company has one of the lowest rosters if not the lowest in the Dept and we hardly ever get new members and when we do they dont last more than a year or two. My Officers openly bash other companies so if the leadership cant sew this Dept back together then things are gonna stay the same. This Chiefs term is almost half over maybe the next Chief will get this Dept back to what its been. Our last Chief may have got in trouble but noone cared more about this Dept and its members than that guy. This current Chief is a waste.

And as far as TMcD: he didn't get us more Newsday coverage, the actions after the whole block party thing were the orders of the department lawyer, who has since been released. He also didn't pretty much take a piece of apparatus out of service by placing it back at Tilrose, just because it might improve their morale... great morale piece, it's right back where it was 4 years ago: not going anywhere! The reason our active membership is so low, is because "I'm the greatest O'Side FF of all time" the disposed 2491 has driven everyone out. Look the classes are almost done, actually it was kind of a goof and I had a few laughs. truth is I really don't hate every other company or every other person in the department. In fact there are some great people everywhere in the OFD, not just in my own company.

The problems and moral will work themselves out if we ignore places like this and concentrate on just judgung people for who they are as individuals and not as others tell us we should judge them.

If the City Council approves, Vallejo would be the first California city to declare bankruptcy because its revenues can't cover expenses, experts say.

In 2001, Desert Hot Springs, a small town in Riverside County, filed for bankruptcy after it lost a lawsuit to a developer, while Orange County declared bankruptcy in 1994 after it lost money in a series of bad investments.

Filing for bankruptcy protection will allow Vallejo to re-negotiate contracts with employees, vendors and bondholders and protect it from lawsuits, but the move will damage its credit rating and lead to costly legal expenses.

Hello everyone! I have from time to time stopped by this board to keep up on things going on in my old department. It pains me to see all of this nonsense going on, and how EVERYTHING, yes, everything posted here is negative towards Chief, Company, or a particular person. I would like everyone who is a frequent flyer on the site to give this posting a few minutes of your time.
Some of the very people who are BLASTED on this board are people I have known most of my adult life. They are part of the very fabric called the OCEANSIDE FIRE DEPARTMENT, an organization I was very proud to be called a member of. Throughout my time in the OFD, I shared most of my personal time with the members of my own company. However, the time I got to spend with the other dept. members, whether at a fire, training, parade, picnic, was most of the time, A LOT OF FUN, despite the rivalry we had between the companies! It is too bad that some people on the board don't remember guys like Henry Schauer, or Jack Sloan, or Dominic "BUBBA" Lagudi, guys who weren't in my company, but whom I miss alot. The times we had at events, or just socializing on Sunday, having a beer together are wonderful memories........
Being a member under Chiefs like Dominic Giampolo, Jonh Zullo, Steve Klein, and of course Jim Conklin, were great. The parties at his house following parades are legendary! palling around with with the officers of the different companies was just as memorable. For the good of the Department as a whole, differences and company rivalries took a back seat to the things we accomplished as a DEPARTMENT! Every single time we went to a parade, no matter were we were, we ALWAYS felt we were the ones to beat!
My point is this........While I didn't see eye to eye with everyone in the department, including Chief's and Commissioner's, an I got in their faces several times about a topic ot two (okay, several!), I still enjoy these people today, and their company when I can see them. The Good memories far out weigh the bad many times over. All of you now have your chance to make your own good memories, but instead choose to point to all the negatives about a person or Company, or the Department as a whole.
This whole ripping of everyone has to stop! A committe does not have to be formed by several individuals to bring the department back together. it has to be done by all of you, as individuals! You can chose to be part of the solution, by reversing course here, and posting something positive about someone or even a Company, or continue to be part of the problem by spewing more negativity, and even worse, HATE. That is an awful word, and more important, and awful emotion to let take control.
I will start by posting here, a great personal memory. I would like to thank the following people for alot of fun, John Paul Jones, Fred Robinson, Donald Jackson, Steve kramer, Steve Klien, Jimmy Holmes, Charlie Ward, Tom Mundinger (RIP), Kevin Hoelldobler, Jack Sloan, Kris Andoos.

So aside from that and some of the names you mentioned I will agree with your point. Peronsally I loved Old Jack Sloan. Man what a tough old guy he was but so funny to listen too. He used to torture Harry Roth every Sunday and we would laugh our asses off. And who could forget Hank Dosedlo, man what a great guy he was.

There are still alot of great old guys in the department, we just don't take the time with them that we use to, we're all guilty of that. And you know what there are a lot of great young kids in the depatment now also. They're in every company, good people, good firefighters and a blast to hang out with. Bottom line, I like a lot of the people from other companies, this baord is nothing but BS and it only hurts things. If you want to make anything better go up to the person you have an issue with and tell them. Don't write it here.

The Lynch brothers are the biggest cause of the Dept going downhill! It started with Bill's second term. His I make the decisions for the dept backstabing at nominations started the bad blood. His times as commish were what I can get out of it? He destroyed his company (thats coming from the E-1 boys) and hurt the entire dept. His ass wipe brother continued the destruction. The dept has been going downhill since. I do not see it improving until Madden is 241. My fear is it will be to far gone at that point. What can be done? After talking to many members, I have no idea how. The damage is too deep! I will continue to try and make it better, but I have very little hope it will improve! To think how good this dept was, it hurts!

Mutual aid policy for every fire is: one FAST truck to protect all of our members, one ambulance to the scene, also to protect our members (this was added because often the mutual aid ambulance was the first on the scene if not the pd) and an engine, truck, and ambulance to HQ to protect the taxpayers. If you came around to some fires you would see that engines and truck do a good job and don't need outside help unless the IC feels he needs to upgrade the alarm (oh yea we have an alarm system in case you didn't know). Rescue is the only company that has an automatic back-up in place.

Let's see they took a car that was never used at all by the safety officers we "supposedly" have and when a few of them did use it they just complained about how SO sucked, the board assigns SO to the mechanic as his car, took his newer truck and will put a cap on it and give it to the SCBA person as his new Mask Service Unit, becuase the old MSU is about to die.

So let's review they took a truck that wasn't being used and was collecting dust, but was insured, reused it and also reused the truck it replaced saving the district, department and community $20,000 (the cost of a new MSU). Good God the Board is out of control. They,they, they saved money. Those assholes. Oh yeah they did sell the White Whale so now we are getting to a reasonably sized service fleet. Saving insurance, maintenence and gas. Shit these guys are out of control. Quick call Newsday.

over here in E M commissioners take unmarked tahoes for months at a time and other district employees take tahoes home and yes so does the mechanic, even though if a truck breaks down the mechanics has to go past the district building, It's the same all over nassau to much money and not a commissioner who knows what the fuck there doing. In E Meadow we have 6 or 7 SPARE chiefs cars and 3 unmarked tahoes plus 4pick up trucks and the medic care and saftety car sits there 23 hours a day, The truth hurts and most cant handle it but it long over do for the state to take a good look at all these fire district but the districts got lucky again thanks to the school districts, I say fuck them all if they were going into there own pocket everyone knows there would be no spare cars and no car would be going home with a sup or mechanic, May every commissioner get everything they have coming to them.

There has been one thing I've agreed with through all this crap and it didn't come up till now. The Board has done a disservice to us by getting rid of the dispatchers. That was 1 thing we had that was great for us and it fell by the wayside with no fan fare or up roar. Those guys were there for us 24 hours a day (until recently) for as long as I can remember, when the office was upstairs to now, and its gone. And the other thing that has fallen by to the side is the burn building. I still haven't seen anyone on the current board take any steps for the members. Why? for the same reason they pay for gas for the chiefs to be on call 24 hours a day seven days a week. they all have a monthly gas limit anyway which is much cheaper than paying for paid fulltime chiefs or mechanics or house men to actually be on duty. How come you don't write about these people paying for their own gas or cell phone bills when they go over theirlimit.

How Many & How Much? I doubt he's had as many accidents as the members have had, how many side mirrors alone were taken off of trucks last year. who many people were almost killed by SS, how many rescue trucks hit parked cars at carvel with a safety officer on board, how many district buildings were hit by apparatus, how many truck room doors were crushed???? and it probably wasn't as expensive as reparing a ladder after it was used to vent a building that had already vented itself.
