View Full Version : Two Computers - One Cop ?
Always ask
02-19-2008, 11:13 PM
Not sure why, maybe it's a legit thing - I don't know? Quite often I see a Suffolk Police car on my block, I live on a cul de sac. I walked by the car while walking my dog and the officer in the car, (a female) was on a laptop pecking away. I also saw another laptop attached to the dashboard area, that one was on too. What are these used for, I can see having a computer to check for warrants, or Drivers License information but why have two laptops - I don't get it? I have seen this officer at l six times in the last month or so, always near the same area- same house. Is there a way to find out what is going on over there at that house - or if it is something to keep my kids away from?

Chances are, this officer was on her meal and was staying availible for any calls that came in. The laptop mounted in the car is a county laptop used for police business and the second one was most likely her personal one. I dont think you have anything to worry about, this officer is keeping herself out in the public unlike some who choose to hide some where... Again these are just my thoughts to your question....

BUT!!!! the officer WASN'T using a official PD computer for her business, and therefore is not stealing time from the taxpayer like the LT who got suspended did. The LT was confined to the SH with nothing left to do. This officer you speak of was on patrol - ready, willing, and able. At l she wasn't doing a private investigation business while she was working. And at l she wasn't taking off on company time to teach classes in a profit making situation.

That other laptop was the plate reader. it can scan 200 plates a second and get hits on stolen, expired and suspended plates. why is she on your block, cant say. maybe there is a stolen car there.....
as for the trolls and childish comments ignore them.
wah im jealous

Depending on what pct you live in, many car computers are set up to print reports inside the car. She probably is just doing her reports in a quiet out of the way spot.
Of course instead of posting this here, to stir up a cop bashing festival, you could go and talk to her. Crazy concept huh?

Hey listen I dont know if this helps, but where I work, we were getting
numerous complaints of parked occupied cars, in cul de sacs, dead ends and partially developed areas.
It turned out to be high school kids on thr breaks, driving over to smoke weed, and occasionally more serious drugs. They also engaged in sexual acts, and many of the guys had weapons, illegal knives mostly, firecrackers etc. After a while there were kids linked to burgs, graffiti and property damage. Sometimes they parked between 2 cars or even in driveways so as not to be noticed.
The day tours averaged 3 arrests or summons to appear a week, and it carried over into the, nites and midnites, the kids would come back to some of those places to continue.
This cop could be there doing what is known as a patrol check, or just discouraging the local high school teens. but you wont find that out unless you talk to her.
The 2nd computer could be a gps system, I dont know what the plate scanner the other cop mentioned looks like but I know there are some out there.

the plate scanner's name eludes me but if you read the papers, one of the villages were using a form of them to monitor who was there that didnt belong and sending them a letter.

For starters I love when someone posts under a name like yours. The intepretation of "regular guy" usually is something like; posted here 100s of times and love to stir shlt.
But I'll take you at face value. Well regular guy, I've found over the years, not one "lowly citiziens "..direct quote from you, has ever had a problem asking very intrusive questions into what was going on..."bad accident?" .."someone die"? ..."Anyone drunk?".... "Someones house got robbed ?" "he beat her again"..."what you pull him over for, my son hangs out with him?"..I even had a person file a complaint against me because I would tell him what was wrong with his nghbor when I treated her prior to ambulance arrival...Which I explained would be violating her patient bill of rights as per nys. Its a daily event, people come up and ask what happened down the block 2 weeks ago during the midnights, or whatever... and I handle it as best I can, if there is a underlying issue that shouldnt be told, I dont, if its something simple, I do. For you to post that shows your ingorance of the matter.
Maybe its how you say it. Maybe you've never said it, but heard from a friend that one cop gave him a attitude. Hell yes, there are nasty cops, just like any other job.
Well if you are intimidated of the police, you could call the local pct and ask if that area has been having problems

If it makes you feel better to think that only one person on this whole entire message board feels a certain bitterness towards the police than so be it. I stated my feelings about the way most of the police I've ever dealt with respond to people who ask questions of them. They act as if the average citizen is below them and therefore not worthy of a dignified reply. I'm not saying ALL are this way. I've been on friendly terms with quite a few, but even they, when away from public ears, will talk down on the "Regular Guy".

They call this the 'us against them mentality" or the cops against the civilians who aren't smart enough to know better. It is the nature of police work. The average citizen doesn't know what they have to deal with. They are the chosen ones who know everything about life.
Does it get to be a pain in the butt for the average cop to keep on fielding dumb questions from dumb citizens - yes, many of them are, but it sure does get irritating. Like when you break an arm and have a case on and have to tell it for the 1,000th time how it happened.
When you ask a cop why the person was removed in an ambulance and you get a dumb look because it is a privacy issue a proper response would be: I am sorry sir, I really shouldn't be giving you information about the health of another person - it is a privacy issue. Obviously, the person is very ill to be removed by an ambulance. The next person who asks you, and the next, you smile and say the same.

Ehh wrong there. I talk to everyone the same as I am treated. I know a few cops who cant stand the public, but cant stand thr coworkers ther. I know many people who arent cops who simply avoid me or even my kid after they find out I'm employed as a cop. Yet i am not judgemental of them, evenwhen they have minor past criminal history...go figure. Off duty most of my friends arent cops. On this board, its hard to tell who is pretending to be who, so its easier and almost always correct to assume everyone is the same troll, rather then to try to figure out if you are or arent the same poster.
And again people ask questions that arent thr business, and can lead to me bng sued or disciplined. Can you imagine after responding to a sex assault of a nghbor, or a drug overdose of a 12 year old telling the local busybody why I'm really there? Yet if I dont tell them Im expected to listen to "this is my nghborhood, I want to know" "i know your boss","call your boss" "i pay your salary"
So you see the other side of the fence isnt so green ther. If you are polite and ask when the officer isnt in the middle of something, and if you do not get the answer you'd like you stop, because there probably is a underlying(confidential) reason the cop isnt telling you, then there is no reason for anyone to talk down ro sideways to anyone.

you would think so but just stating a person is sick is still violating the privacy act.
and while there are no laws in regards to the rest of police work, each dept has rules in regards to the same. A cop cannot discuss any call, traffic stop, or arrest. My dept's rules state I should advise the civilian to contact our public info bureau. Of course they dont know anything unless its a big call.
But I'm not going to violate the rules

You are some idiotic fool. Does your life revolve around inconsequential observations of a Police Officer using a second computer?
Now here is your answer: She is using someone's WI-FI on the block to gain access to the internet to check "America's Most Wanted" special OFFICIAL police files. There is no internet access with the department's computer.

I can't always give you an answer, and more often than not quite honestly it's none of your business. We deal in alot of private matters. Stop bng so nosey. We don't come to your job and ask all kinds of questions who/what/where/why you do things at work, which we probably should do because whatever product or service you provide by bng a consumer we pay your salary.
(Obviously, the person is very ill to be removed by an ambulance. The next person who asks you, and the next, you smile and say the same)
You would think, but most people use the ambulance because they think they get in quicker, the driveway will be full of cars people in the house getting in the way but call an ambulance for that sprained ankle/bloody nose/ migrane/ etc etc....

Yeah everyone posting here claims ther has relatives or on friendly terms with cops, yet almost all of them attempt to put us down or talk down to cops. Not saying you did, but enough with that line.
Most of the cops know this as a defense mechanism due to the posters insecurity. If you are attacking cops here there is a agenda, and its usually not the good of the public, more like your lifes failures and inadequacies.
The bottom line to this, it is sometimes a awkward situation to be in. I've had people ask me who the operator of the vehicle is who crashed and died, I cannot release that info, not even to a family member.
I've also had a home owner get pissed at me because I told her nghbor who she doesnt like that I was just checking her house because her alarm went off.
Its not that a citizen is below me or not deserving of a dignified reply, its our procedures. Before I speak I have to decide if it is something I can tell you.

You are right in one regard. On a aided case or a crime, the victim or patient has certain rights we protect. We and everyone else involved including hospital personnel or the courts, legal system and media.
Anything else is pure discretion when dealing with the public. If I'm on a perimeter of a crime say a burg, where the perp was seen fleng, and you pull up and ask me whats going on I can tell you nothing. Or I can tell you there is a crime in progress, there is a burgular who was seen fleng a home in the areas, and or even give you a description of him. That is up to me. If I feel you are credible, and live in the area, I might tell you so you know to lock the doors and keep a eye out for him. If I feel you are just nosy or looking for gossip for lunch break tomorrow, nah.
However, no matter what you say or how you attempt to put us in our place, you are still the one having to ask us for information, and are at our whim if we tell you or not. What does that say for you?

A lot of time into thinking about this? No. It took me less then a couple minutes to post that. Why the sudden hang up with time? It that supposed to prove something? Remember I AM a cop, I deal with this day in and out. I dont have to dream this up, it actually happens.
The rest of your post is tried and true trolling. Middle school was over 20 years ago, can barely remember it, but had a pretty good time. Never played dodgeball, as the school believed it was dangerous. And hookers dont kiss, dumbass, at 22 I had a child already and was working.
Despite whatever has occurred in your life, not everyone who is messed up had a bad childhood. Save your lame little attempt at psychoanalysis for yourself. Trying to say I'vr got a chip on my shoulder because I had a rough time growing up, in rebuttal to the paragraph that I dont provide gossip for nghborhood nosybodies is a stretch, even for you, dont you think?

Its supposed to show somehow that you are a loser or a bigger loser then him. That somehow because you typed 40 more words then him, or the post actually said something as opposed to bringing up your childhood, that you have nothing else to do with your time.
Its the typical hypocritical bull, because anyone posting that has to be spending thr time on the same exact thread, doing the same exact thing.

Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for bng an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.
irregardless
an erroneous word that, etymologically, means the exact opposite of what it is used to express, attested in non-standard writing from 1912, probably a blend of irrespective and regardless. Perhaps inspired by the double negative used as an emphatic.

I've proven it exists but it incorrect?
Great english chump.
btw your cut and paste doesnt say it is incorrect, but " it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for bng an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term."
And as the others stated, I'd rather read that then "dumb fucking pigs" or any other white trash musings you might have.
irregardless
an erroneous word that, etymologically, means the exact opposite of what it is used to express, attested in non-standard writing from 1912, probably a blend of irrespective and regardless. Perhaps inspired by the double negative used as an emphatic.
Stupid pig must be spoon fed like a baby because he's too ignorant to read or comprehend. PS - erroneous means incorrect. Want to go look up that definition now you pathetic loser?
