I remember the good old days when you buy a television, put the rabbit ears at a strategic location and ..walla...you're in business. Not that I didn't expect those days to come to an end ..mind you. I also welcomed the era of pay television..but I'm in the process of reverting back to the days of the old rabbit ears because I cannot chase this dangling carrot any longer.
Stay with me on this one...I pay $40 + a month for basic service. At first I welcomed the increase programming and improved picture quality. But then slowly..and very sneakingly the programs that were part of the basic $40 package began to disappear. As they disappear these cable companies fill the channel with info-mmercials!
Used to be I looked forward to getting a few cold ones and sit back to root for my college team on a Saturday afternoon. After all I'm an alum and I happen to live just a few miles away from the campus.
What happened next was the games for my team started to disappear. So I paid an extra $100+ for a basic package of college football. For a while all was well in the world.
But then the games started to disappear from the package I just paid for ($100+). Whats the problem I ask? That game..though a few miles from my house will cost me an extra $30..FOR A SINGLE GAME!!
But wait..it gets better. The cable company is actually airing the same game under the $100 + package...BUT I HAVE TO BE IN ALASKA OR HAWAII to se it!!!!
I'm telling people that it doesn't matter that (although it is a DIV I team)the team has a record of 1win and 3 losses playing a team no wins..thats not the point! I still would not pay the $30 if the game was for the national title!
So here I pay $40 + $100 already ..and now I must pay an extra $30 a game?
I'm paying $140+ for a cable company who goes off and apply stochastic math to determine the games I'm l likely to be interested in to sell to me?
Ok.."that'll learn me"!
What i don't get is ..why am I a tight wad to think this way?
