Can someone please explain to me the purpose of three (3) highway patrol units flying down the LIE in somewhat slick conditions, right up peoples asses in order to get to a 3 car fender bender?
Isn't that putting the public, the same people you are paid to protect and paid by, in a little bit of danger?
How about slowing down a little and stop driving like morons going to BS

How about slowing down a little and stop driving like morons going to BSThats simple the call came over with injuries involved, including a pregnant women. No doubt if they drove slowly someone would complain because of that as well.
As far as the driving goes they are trained for wet conditions, and my educated guess is that thr lights were on way before you noticed. Dont blame them for your inability to observe the road and your failure to yield to a emrgency vehicle. Thr lights are visible for well over a half mile, and thr sirens are audible for about 2000 feet. There is no excuse for not getting over.
I understand its a blow to your ego that you have to move, and you are offended that they drove too close to your precious vehicle. How dare they? Who do they think they are? Hey why dont you give internal affairs a call? See what they think...lol

It always totally amazes me how individuals like yourself make improper assertions when observing police activity. For your information a pregnant female went into labor after the 3 car MVA resulting in her transportation to a local emergency room.
I totally apologize for you inconvenience that was caused to you on the roadway. I know your lifestyle is more important than others.

Thats exactly the answer I expected I checked the history for the past 3 months for both counties and every accidnet that was a 3 car accident that had 3 highway units responding intially during snow/ rain conditions had injuries.... besides does it matter?
WE are not the ones who called a accident in, didnt bother to stop and see if anyone is hurt . It comes in as a priority. It is not our fault that there was a crash, and that people like you do not stop and help. Or see if anyone is hurt (Obviously you didnt or you'd know the results) The bottom line...the lights you see 1000s of feet behind you means move or you are breaking the law.... It doesnt matter if no one was hurt, losers see a broken down car and call it in as a accident with unknown injuries. Still forces us to go lights and sirens. Stop questioning our authority and do as you are expected, like a normal functional member of society .
And let me guess you arent the original poster.

Well there was one within the past day or so, and the poster just so happened to describe it to a tee. It is reasonable and logical to post it within the time frame of when it happened. I dont know aboy you, but if you are going back to a few weeks ago to post about a cop passing you, you have too much time on your hands or a incredibly boring life. Or you didnt want or expect a rational and logical answer as to why the police did that. You just want to bitch about how it interfered with your pursuit of fulfillment and how you had to ...GASP..........move out of the lane you wanted to cruise in....

I am not a police officer but a fireman, and I will answer you.
How do they know if it is a 3 car fender bender until they get there? How do they know if there are injuries? and most importantly they must get there and secure the scene to prevent someone like yourself from driving into the scene and perhaps escalating the event making it a 4, 5 or 6 car event with more sever injuries.
If you turn down your radio and pay attention to what is going on around your car by looking occassionally in the mirror you would have seen and heard them coming a long way back, furthermore you are supposed to immediately get to the right and out of thr way and slow down and let them pass. If I had a dollar for everytime I had a civilian wait until I was right behind them in a fire truck before getting out of the way, or then they realize it but feel the need to pass one more car before getting out of the way, and then get in the right lane and try to keep pace with us on a two lane highway.
Then the best part, the reason you know it was a 3 car fender bender is because you took a nice long look as your drove slowly by.....like that is safe to do. So lighten up, they are only doing thr job, and it it was you that had the misfortune to be in an accident on the LIE with traffic whizzing by, you would want them there quickly, fender bender or not.

Well, I'm the original poster.
I love the responses that I've recved from a bunch of high school graduates that got lucky on a Saturday morning.
First of all, I was not driving in the lane in which the Highway Unit was traveling in. I was not too concerned about my detestable drive on the Long Island Expressway over the needs of my fellow members of society. I was simply observing the repellent driving habits of the three Highway Units.
I'm sure the job came over the radio as a major catastrophe, but still no need to put overs in danger. I'm sure that it so important to rush rush there, that there was another of your fellow Highway Officers sitting in his unmarked vehicle, about 500 feet of the accident, just sitting in between the HOV lanes reading his paper.
Let's get a real grip on things here; if a motorist is doing something illegal, pull them over and write them a summons. Anyone who drives the roads of Long Island can attest to the loathsome driving habits of Suffolk County's finest.
One shining example that I can think of right off the top of my head is an instance of a Suffolk County Sheriff driving bound on Sunrise Highway on his motorcycle. He took it upon himself to ride right up my ass, blast his siren and flash his lights so I'd pull to the right lane. I complied, and as soon as Mr. Hurry-up passed my vehicle, he turned all the lights off and continued on his way.
I'm not saying every police officer in Suffolk, Nassau, and New York City are horrible drivers; but there are a great number who are.

So says you... I'm "sure" it happened exactly as you say. If you were truly as successful as you claim to be you wouldn't be so hung up on the salaries and education of people so far beneath you. No matter the topic you manage to bring it up. Unless or until you choose to share your "credentials" you will remain nothing more than what we think you are. Since you are nothing more than a jealous, unsuccessful shlub those credentials only exist in your fantasy world. By the way, I'm quite certain that the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department does not operate a motorcycle unit, so not only are you a shlub, you're a liar as well.

And btw, stay the hell out of the HOV lane as you commute solo to the job you hate but can't afford to leave.

Ok so we know who you are and your underlying agenda.
Why you are wrong; accident with injuries....minimum of 2 car response, on the lie 3 cars seems appropriate. 1 to aid the victim 1 to shut the road and 1 to investigate the crash. A unmarked car on the other side, no doubt on a state grant to write tickets....well if its unmarked, it cannot block traffic, not safe, you drivers barely acknowledge a marked car. Assist the victim, cant do, limited emt supplies, if any. Write the accident? No his assignment is to enforce whatever traffic law the state requires otherwise they will stop funding us and you will pay more taxes. Just because a priority accident is dispatched doesnt mean every cop in the world has to respond.
You are kidding right? Horrible driving habits? Who had the accident? C'mon, spend the 50 cents and get the paper. If it isnt someone driving with 40 suspensions, or intox picking up thr kids, its a 17 y/o kid dying because he has a car that does 150 mph, or a perp running in a stolen vehicle. People from out of state...check that out of l.i. are shocked at the rude and dangerous driving habits of you locals. Except the illegals without a license, they seem to fit right in with you.

Arrogant..ok questioning why you have to yield to cops with thr emergency lights as per the vtl law...no you are not arrogant in the l..... Well a bit extreme but pretty much on target. I am a cop, If I'm going to a call lights and sirens, I expect you to be a respectable member of society and get out of my way. There is a section of law that allows me to write you, you are breaking the law. I understand many people simply do not have the savy/sense to move quickly, because they might have many things on thr minds. But I'm not going to try to ping pong thru traffic....sorry, I'm going to ride your butt, as per my training, until you get over.
I do not answer to the public...there are laws in regards to patient confidentiality, and many in regards to investigations. Frankly speaking, its not my place to tell you who what when where or why, if you want information call the public info bureau. Once again I give you my depts policy. I'm not indebted to tell you anything, they do not want me to.
I got lucky on a Saturday? So did 40,000 others over the past 5 tests. Not even 10% of them got on. I worked in the private sector for 10 years prior to becoming a cop, bought a home, got married and raised 2 kids prior to getting on. After I leave, I will work in it again. I'm not terribly impressed or intimidated by it.
Now that you've reminded me of my supposed obligation to the public let me remind you. I'm not the person who crashed, or overdosed or was stabbed by my husband, or having a heart attack, or whatever. I did not call 911. It is one of you, the public that did. Its your peers of the public that is having whatever dilemma that caused them to call 911. If its bs, not one cop is going to it with lights and sirens. Do everyone a favor, swallow your pride, and get out of the way. You are interfering with us answering to the public like you said. One day you'll be sitting there wondering why its taking sooooo long for the cops to get to you, remember this debate. This is why.

Its that line of thinking thats gotten more people arrested then anything else. I answer to my dept, not you. When I show up for that dispute, accident, domestic, etc I follow the depts guidelines. Can you guess how many times after a domestic the aggressor runs into the pct and gets a report stating nothing happened, while I'm taking a report of a criminal act?Now the aggressor shows me the report like that cancels out the fact that he choked or beat her.
We dont think we rule the world, but you shouldnt ther, if we are tailgating light and sirens, get out of the way. Everyone else in every other state and country does... Oh, that's right, you need to think on your own in the private sector. Not have everything spoon feed to you through a field manual. You're the tool.Thats why I wish my former depts policies were used here. We had mounted cameras and would record the pictures of the plates of vehicleswho refused to yield. After the call we would intitiate a investigation into who owned the car and who was driving. If we got the driver to admit to driving, he'd be charged, no summons but a summary arrest. If we couldnt get the driver, we'd do what amounts to a nys safety hearing here, except the reg owner of the vehicle's license would be suspended until dmv was satisfied...in other words the owner told them who was driving. People like this would learn fast.
Concerned Motorist 4
01-20-2008, 10:33 AM
Thats a great idea, a dmv nys safety hearing can be requested by any deponent of dmv....which covers all police and sheriffs. I've done that for leaving the scenes where the owner simply will not cooperate. What dept did you work for? Fail to comply is a arrestable offense here, but most often we do fail to yield.
not concerned at all
01-20-2008, 12:07 PM
Ok, here is what options you have in suffolk pd.
If you are responding to a priority 1 or now 2 call and using your emergency lites and sirens(both) and you have a unit on scene of the call advising it is controlled, you can initiate a "unavoidable" traffic stop. What you do is advise dispatch of the same, stop the vehicle long enough to get thr license and registration...only. Do not take the insurance papers, or thr keys. Why? The license and reg belong to dmv not the person. Tell them you are leaving and will be back as soon as possible. They are not to leave. Advise dispatch of what you did and see if there is a free unit that can babysit until you come back. The time off the call will be recorded for court purposes.
When you come back to the driver, you have the option of writing the failure to yield and going to traffic court, or the reckless driving misdemeanor plus failure to yield, articulating how the drivers failure to yield put other motorists, including yourself in danger. That is a arrestable offense, but you are better off writing a summons, as when the motorist files the inevitable complaint you can show how you were kind enough to allow them to keep thr freedom and vehicle. The difference between the two, if you are competent testifying in court you'll win tvb. If not the motorist will get off with a plea deal but it will cost at l 500 in court and lawyers fees, but you'll never have to testify.
I do this whenever possible, at l 4-5 times a year. You have to be able to articulate why you stopped the vehicle as opposed to continuing onto the call, thats why it has to be controlled. You cannot justify leaving a call of cpr in progress for a stop. Basically that you stopped the vehicle knowing it would take a minute or so to collect the license etc and continued onto the call. I've gotten complaints nearly every time. So expect it. Ia will not follow up if there is no allegation of improper conduct. If you do not yell, curse, etc, it will be investigated by your immediate supervisor and be cleared.

Reality check dipshit.....you got lucky on a Saturday morning. Try obtaining a real education and making a living in the private sector..
Jealous jealous jealous...What the matter? You thought you were a big shot having someone babysit you in college while Mommy paid for your education and now it's not paying off?
No pension? No job security? No benefits? Sounds like some made the wrong decisions in life. You are not owed a great living because you went to college. Jealous jealous jealous...I love it!!!

Why not tell the whole story? You earned a B.S. in basket weaving from Mickey Mouse U., found out nobody would hire you, found yourself on the loserpile and figured you would take the police exam, since what else would you do?

It's the same old rhetoric from pinheads like yourself. You're under the delusion that everyone on Long Island wants your job. Wake up!! Not everyone has grand illusions of running around with a weapon and a badge.
Some of us like self expression in our work places. You bring up a pension, job security, benefits. I have one of the best 401k plans out there, as well as a very secure private retirement fund. Because I'm educated and intelligent; my job security is just fine.
No one ever brought up that one is owed a great living because of a college education. It is simply amazing that the brain washing that goes on once a blue uniform goes on. My own brother is a police officer; not Suffolk, but State, and it is no wonder that I can't stand the man. He has the same mentality as the rest of you people.

Likewise, somehow every troll, whether complaining about our salaries, despite claiming a higher one, or claiming the myriad of false personnas clogging the thread with bullshit all state at one point or another cops are uneducated and had a "lucky saturday". No matter how many cops post here that they had a bachelors or better, the same trolls claiming to be 17 year vets of nypd, or making double what scpd make attempt to dismiss that.
I probably talk to 1000 people a year as a cop. Many feel they are smart, or brag like you of thr education. In honesty, most are of average intelligence. The number of geniuses are low, the number of stupid people, low, most are somewhere in between. If you are of the exceptional intelligence, why are you wasting your time here arguing about why cops responding to a 911 call of a priority are speeding and tailgating motorists who are failing to yield? Its a pointless argument.
The majority of people on L.I. have college degrees, they are a dime a dozen. Most police I know and work with have one, again with all your intelligence why would you post such self serving and back patting information? Sounds like a security issue. Dont attempt to insult police, and you in return wont be insulted. If you werent the poster who made such remarks then why bother responding to it?
Self expression? What do you think cops are robots? I enjoy my job, 10 years ago getting teens to fess up to thr weed to now getting adults to fess up to real crimes. Oh and most say the same things...."I'm not stupid, you know i have a job/college degree". Our job is not military, we can talk to one another and to people as we see fit. And there are more opportunities open to us then in almost any other career.
Whats amazing to me is the assumptions people make who have never done the job. There is no brainwashing, just a 1st row seat to the biggest reality show on earth.
And dont compare the state job, a good but limited job to suffolk. Its not even in the ballpark.

So I guess when people post here and get a explanation, and it isnt what they want, the thread denigrates into a "us vs. you", stupid civil servant, lucky saturday, bashfest....or was that the original purpose of the post?
Because I could have scripted this myself. Now the initial post, which to me needed no explanation, is explained( whos intelligent...lol?????) its the typical attack the cops and pound my chest how great I am sermon.
The format used over and over here is so transparent. I saw a cop. He did this. I think he is wrong, now defend him. Of course at some point when the format doesnt work anyone, the topic slides into stupidity.
Are you really expecting us to believe that you are of intelligence and a high paying job? Thats hardly credible. Look where you are. Look what you are arguing about. And whether or not its you, look how many other posts from complete losers and morons have stated the same exact garbage.

Funny aint it. most of the threads here were started with the basis of cops bng lazy arrogant self centered etc, yet one of the chronic issues here in ny is the motorists not getting out of the way of emergency vehicles. Curious, this bothered you so much that you posted here at 1230 on a Saturday morning?
Lets straighten this up a bit. Achilles banned? For what using foul language? Over the past year, we've had posts with reference to terrorists attacks on ncpd, acts of mass murder on ncpd, posts telling people to kill themselves simply because the post upset the little apple cart of the poster. Posts about rape, child molestation, etc. But someone posts a few curses and you expect him to be banned? Scpd is on the job to ban him? you are kidding. I've perused our off duty conduct code. There is nothing in there about cursing. Scpd is not going to get a court order to track his ip address because he is using profane language when there is nothing they can do about it. Even if it was a punishable offense, how are they going to prove it? Achilles isnt a registered name here. Anyone can use it and his computer.
Real talents???? Who is a real talent? People who live thr lives with respect for others and are good parents to thr kids. Thats a talent. The next few lines are confusing...do you mean the "real talents" are overpaid and underworked and cocks? Or the cops? If you are trying to refer to the police other then personal agenda what is this based on(please no" Well my brothers wives friends sons babysitters father is a cop and he says he never leaves the firehouse")Because I know I dont tell anyone what I do at work. The last thing I or anyone i know want to do is come home and talk shop.
A very good living compared to the average joe...well where I live I am a average joe. The jealousy thing is way off. Most of the threads started here are attacks on cops, those you can say are from jealous people. Most of the replies are defenses, some are return fire. If the troll or two posting here left, and stopped posting, you would not find any posts about civilians. It would be about police topics, and yeah occasional shots against each other. All this I'm better then you stuff would stop. I dont see jealousy, sorry.

It speaks volumes for what type of person is posting when you have someone with nothing else to do with themselves at that hour but to post self serving bs on this site. I do not see the hang up of morons posting here and bng a troll, or jumping a thread and critiquing the posters. If there is a mature debate ongoing, big if, and someone posts I bang your wife, yes. But most often there are people posting just to get a rise, The I saw a cop locked out of her car OMG, or pretending whatever. Immature sure, deplorable or unprofessional...nah, average. It is wrong to look at one poster and forget the rest of them. I've seen far worse and its been documented ad infinitum, no need to go any further.
The rest I'd agree, no person posting here crying about how overpaid the cops are should be claiming to have financial security. Thats a load of crap. Nor does it have to be non-stop.
Real talents? Who do you feel is a real talent? To me someone making 500,000 or more and keeping the majority is a real talent. Under that there is little difference in the long run between cops and the rest of us.
Cops bng overpaid and or underworked is opinion. Nothing more. Look around you, who actually is hardworking? This is not a professional website, but if you are a true professional you'd act that way anywhere. While cops are not "professionals" in the true sense of the word (bng a blue collar job), they can still act with class and dignity on a website, in spite of the venomous attacks from the trolls and posters on this site. While I do not begrudge anyone the right to defend themselves or thr profession, the immature comments and attacks are flat out pathetic. I was raised under the premise that 2 wrongs do not make a right, and there any many wrongs with this website. As a resident of LI I'd expect more from the police, and as a citizen of the world I expect nothing (and recve nothing) from the general public.
My plea here is to get this website's head on straight. While I don't have the time to read this site all that frequently, it would be nice to be able to read through something more than "cops are pigs" and "I fucked your wifes smelly pussy" posts. And finally, to address the poster questioning the time of my posts, I travel for my firm. Unfortunately I'm in an area of the country with which I'm unfamiliar. Hence, aside from working, exercising, and sleeping, reading various websites is all I can do. I apologize in advance if posting at this hour offends anyone.

This is a place that you are allowed to come and express yourself. The website clearly posts its limits. Those who go beyond them are banned. The posters here apparently fall within them. Freedom of speech. No one here is complaining when they are called names. Honestly it is mild amusement. Its not the words but the underlying reason for posting. You dont think its readily apparent reading a paragraph of "Cops suck because blah blah blah...oh and I'm a millionaire" what the person is actually expressing? you dont think that makes it even funnier to read?
No one here is breaking the law. No one here is posting during working hours as a police officer, as the dept. computers log all sites and this one was banned about 4 years ago. There are dozens of people claiming to be all kinds of professionals, and even more claiming to be police, yet are far from credible. They are easily picked apart, and simply re-invent themselves as a different troll. You cannot tell who is posting what.
I dont know when you arrived here, but this website has seen far worse. If you seriously are offended you have a few options, the easiest would be not to come here. The more effective would be to notify the . But please dont insult our intelligence by posting "scpd is on the case"...that puts you right into the mix of less the credible trolls that you are claiming to be disgusted by.

The posters calling cops pigs are idiots, and the supposed cops like "Achilles" talking about wives and mothers are deplorable. You don't have to take my advice, but by calling me a hypocrite because I post late at night and don't want to see garbage and nonsense posted tells me all I need to know about you. I just hope posters like you are in the minority on this site. Good day.

I disagree with your point. If the cops and trolls arent complaining why are you? If you dont like it you should follow his advice. You've supposedly posted here 3-4 times and you think you have the right to critque everyone's language?
Oh btw it is no shock that suddenly you've replied this morning, after the other poster"Unregistirrer" . This is the same exact posting pattern that every other poster uses. It was predicted and you followed thru.

I dont think you realize what is going on here. Or maybe you do.You could simply have stated that you do not like how posters post here. But you stated that you are a "professional" as if that is supposed to mean something. It doesnt. You are forgetting who you are preaching to. Maybe the rest of the world believes that somehow you are a gentleman because of that word, but we are the ones who still have to respond to your homes when you hit your wife/kids/dogs or scrape your drunk ass off the sidewalk in front of your favorite strip club. My experience as a cop, both in the city, and out here someone who claims they are a professional usually means they can afford better booze, and more pure coke, and almost always are nasty arrogant drunks. So you smell like scotch instead of beer. So your suit has to be drycleaned as opposed to machine washed after you shit yourself. I've walked into disturbances at bars where you would think it was a entire frat instead its the boys from the local law office/investment firm. Of course that might not be you, yes. But it is not going to impress anyone here or hold you in high regard. This is a anon website. Anyone can post here and say as they please. What gets your ass kissed in a restaurant or retail store doesnt matter here.
So drop the holier then thou stuff. If language offends you, simply state that. No one needs to hear your pedigree, and no one here is impressed by it. But be prepared to be criticized back. If you are going to go after people you have to be thicker skinned then this. But dont think for a second that your real agenda in that post is not shining thru.
You state that people have lost sight of the original issue. The original issue was dealt with 100 times over. Whos left trolling cops? Trolls.

I love how there are at l one trolls posting here with the same exact posting style, that claims to be a professional and has the same exact agenda or a rehashed version of a old one, in this case the indignant non-troll who is offended by all the vulgar activity. But of course still defends himself by clarifying achilles statement with anyone who posts here NONSTOP...so as to get him out of the troll-loop.
He also had to get his shots in on achilles, his archnemesis #1
The biggest clue he is our regular troll..the whole real talent bs. He couldnt resist. Hes still trying to put police down and raise himself over them. His insecurity and real issues are shining thru.
Hes posting under the guise of "My plea here is to get this website's head on straight", but trying very hard to get his shots in under cover of bng concerned about this site. If you've been here for more then a cup of coffee you'd know there were criminal charges pressed, lawsuits etc, aprox 3-4 years ago due to the posts bng thrown back and forth. Whats going on here is no worse then what you'd find anywhere else.
It must have taken you hours to plot out this strategy, shame its so weak. Oh well i'm sure you'll devise a new one today or tomorrow.

How he hasn't been banned yet is a real mystery (the scpd is on the case!).
why do the minions of morons who post here think;
a. scpd cares?
b. scpd is going to ban someone from posting here
c. any police investigation can be kept a secret from other police especially those who might be involved
If there was a actual investigation into a post by a alledged police officer, the officer has to be notified within a few days of discovery. If there is a dept charge or criminal charge pending it would be on our teletype for all our dept to read. As soon as the complaint was lodged there would be a internal affairs complaint number attached to it. While the actual "to wit" of the complaint would not be available the number and the incident would be. As of right now there is no investigation inot police conduct on the report.
You posted this last week, by now the officer would be known to the dept and have a interview scheduled with ia. The union would be notified as well. How you lodged a complaint when you claim you are off on business, out of suffolk, I do not know.
But it sounded good when you posted it right? If credibility was not a issue who'd care?
You talk about trolls and thr behavior, look long and hard in the mirror.

does nassau county really need the highway patrol to police the long island expressway ,the seaford oyster bay ,or the nassau county coliseum .do we eally need the motorcyce division ,ceremonial activity for the most part costing taxpayers millions ,less policing less dollars the state troopers should be taking it over thr pay is far less than nassau cops

02-06-2008, 03:41 PM
Yes we really do need Nassau Police to police these roadways. The counties have already checked into this and the state police want no part of it. They don't have the manpower (I know the end of LI(Riverhead and the north/south forks) has only 4 or 5 cars per shift. If you think there's madness on the roads now, try cutting the # of cars 75%. Not to mention we troopers are making over $100000 at top pay, so you wouldn't see much of a reduction in costs.

Your opinion and you are entitled to it. However in reality, the county gets ufunding for our cops to patrol the highways. If we didnt get it, it would mean higher taxes.
The addtional higway used during road closures and other "gravy" details are not funded by taxes, but by the utility or private company using them. Not one of you r pennies goes there.

Are you a moron. "not one of my pennies goes there." Who pays the utilities and the taxes to the state for the road construction projects. Abolish the funeral details for cops and thr families. What a corrupt waste of police resources. If you guys actaully worked and the roads were safe then you could show off at someone's uncles funeral. Until then, stop wasting our money and embarassing yourselves.

Here is how it works. When the coliseum uses the police they foot the bill for the police. When the state works on the lie and uses the police on the lie they give the county a grant covering the cost of the police useage. When a private vendor does work and needs the police they pay for the police. There is no tax for the coliseum as far as i know, (Im not a naasau cop or resident). The state already accounted for this work in thr budget, and ther recved a federal grant, or already taxed the entire state for the work. The vendor included the cost of the police in thr quote to the state, county or town, depending on whos road they are working on. And that is included in the budget for the town, county or state.
The bottom line, 20 years ago this was not needed. Now it is a requirement in the hiway contract due to the excessive speeds and reckless manner which too many motorists drive. This is something brought about by the bad drivers amongst us.
Funeral escorts, I almost agree with you. If it was just police family, i'd be fine with it. But that is only once or twice a year, the rest of the time its pushy people who have the ear of the local politicians.
u r way off
02-12-2008, 11:08 AM
He is partly right, dont call him a moron. You dont pay one cent as a county taxpayer for the road closures, but we all pay as state or federal taxpayers. And if the coliseum is using the police, the people going to it are footing the bill, not you.
Funeral escorts for family members of cops are few and far between, its more likely some low level politician or friend that are abusing thr influence to blame for that. Those orders come down from the hq. Go complain to them.
My understanding is they like police doing this as it is good p.r. with thr buddies.

11-03-2008, 09:21 PM
There is currently an interum deal in place that extends the existing contract parameters, but stipulates "Deputy Sheriff" in areas where it formerly listed SCPD. This deal remains in effect until the State DOT, the County, the Sheriff's Office, and the Deputy Sheriff PBA all sign off on a new two year contract. Levy insisted on a 2 year contract and a new term expiration for both the HOV and the construction. He is claiming it will save even more money. Bottom line it is set to be inked next week, then no matter what happens the OT for both the HOV and the construction will belong to the Deps for two years from January 01, 2009 through Decmber 31, 2010. So go to perb and win and we still keep the OT from those two jobs for the next two years - maybe more.

"Year to date for 2008, the Sheriff’s Domestic Violence Unit has served nearly 4,000 Orders of Protection, excluded over 400 perpetrators of domestic violence from the victims’ residences, szed nearly 200 weapons, and made over 400 arrests."
Look at the facts... "excluded over 400 perpetrators of domestic violence from the victims’ residences".... many of whom were the very homeowners themselves... husbands and wives having each other tossed from the home by judge's order... not really what comes to mind when you first read it.
"szed nearly 200 weapons, and made over 400 arrests".... sounds impressive until you realize the county PD does these numbers in a MONTH!
The Deps do a good job... but to put out this type of self serving "News release" you need to know the COMPLETE picture to see just how relative the numbers are.

Yes the entire Police dept of 1700 Police officers did that in a month. Of course there are only 13 Deputies in the Domestic violence unit.

And they police also answered 7500 911 calls. Delievered a few babies, rescued people frm burning houses, etc....real cop work. They also issued 1200+ tickets, and made arrests other then just domestic calls.
You have 13 deps in a special unit that make 30 arrests a year each, hardly earth shattering, most patrol cops do that easily, and I've never been below 30 arrests, and have had double that.
Thats not impressive. Its thr job. It sounds quite easy. Thats not even a arrest a week per dep. Its barely more 2 a month. And?
Our crime control unit, is our specialized unit that handles domestics, and any open misdemeanors makes over 200 arrests per cop per year, a guestimate of 50 or 60 domestic arrests. And that unit only has 5 per squad for a total of 15 pos.
Our cope units make 50-100 arrests a year and issue 500-1000 tickets a year. And every year there are a few guys in patrol with over 100 arrests.
Nothing to brag about.

I cant believe personally how many times the deps that live in my sector run into a incident and call our turrets to report it because they dont have to handle it, and dont want thr hq to know where they are. I cant believe when I show up they tell me not to mention that I saw them. I cant believe a dep dumped a hooker/john transaction into my lap that he observed because he was running late to get home.......

One of my nghbors inlaws was arrested by the deps for domestic. They called him at work and asked him to come in. He took an early lunch went in and was home before dinner.
The guy who arrested him was asked what would happen if he didnt turn himself in. The d/v dep told him he would issue a warrant and someone would have picked him up.
I dont know about you, but it sounds like a pretty cushy job.
When I take a domestic i.r. for a crime, I go looking for the guy...or gal. Only if he lives outside of my pct, then another cop goes looking for him. If I cannot find him it goes into the pct to the crime unit, who goes out and looks for him.

1700 police do not respond to domestics or follow up on domestic incidents. You dope.
There are 900 patrol cops and probably around 50 ccu cops who do.
This among a few hundred other responsiblities they have.
13 deps who's only responsiblity is to follow up on domestics issue orders of protection, and make a meager handful of arrests.
How many of those orders are served at court after the person was arrested(usually by us)? My guess would be 100% of the people arrested for domestic violence are served at court with the o/p. And my guess would be more then 50% of the o/ps are done right there at court, with the defendant in custody.
Wow thats police work!!!!
Incidently when WE issue the order of protection, and call it in to the deps, there is no mark on it...served by the pd, so it is considered served by the deps.

On the 3 mvas I've been brought to, by deps on the clock but off the radar I've also put thr car #s down in my memo book as a ref to the mvas......
Cute but unlikely. You saw it? where?
And? What does this have to do with deps shirking thr responsiblity to act?
Did the po ask a dep to pick his shit up? Its not the same. The po if he did not act on the call, put his name and badge on it, he didnt fluff it off onto a poor unsuspecting shmuck who did the right thing by stopping to check on a fellow "officer"( notice I didnt say cop). The po took the responsiblity.
I've done that. Ive gotten into my car at 1500 and been given a call of a reckless driver thats 40 minutes old. Or gotten a tlm at a intersection that I've passed through. I've even heard lts and sgts 60 calls of reckless drivers or whatever that are ancient. Its not a big deal, and if you handled patrol you would know it.

I have seen it because we take our 18's in the firehouse as well. And the loud mouth po's speak quite loudly. They were already in the firehouse(Ronkonkoma main) With two very large bags of whitecastle when I got there. After I was there for approx 5 minutes they then recved the call. They continued to eat, after about 25 minutes they 10-19 the call and after another 5 they cleared a 18. I by then finished my meal and left and went back on the road.

Hardly. thats because my job description states that scpd must make every effort to arrest a person after committing an act of domestic violence, and I am a professional police officer. I guess the deputy domestic unit marches to a different beat. Make the arrest when a guy turns himself in, otherwise just put in a warrant request.
That isnt bng full of ourselves. You are trying to downplay the difference between a fat cat deputy with a tit of a job and a true patrol cop.

It was only unfounded because the PO never left the fire house. If he got off his fat ass he would have found out it was a crininal mis to thw back of the supermarket. Maybe if he responded in a timely manner he could have even caught the guy. It is ok the po on the 3X11 had to go back and do the work of the day guy.
