The recent publicity about the snapping railroad tie clips is another ploy by the CP to bash the LIRR and create hysteria.
Who was the maintenance person who saw a 5lb clip fly up from its location and take a turn in mid-air to fly horizontally over a 20ft fence? He must have been on mind altering substances or paid by the CP.
There is no physical way that a tie clip can snap, fly upwards and then over a fence. And why is this only happening in Floral Park. The same tie clips are used allover the MTA railroads, thousands of miles of elevated subway tracks in the five boros as well as commuter rail in LI and Westchester and CT. They all uuse the same clips.
The only way that this could occur is if someone found one of the many discarded clips on the ground and positioned it perfectly over a junction in a rail interlocking (where tracks cross each other), so that when the switch is activated, the tie clip bwould be proped into something.
