Let us not forget that it was the Commissioner who promoted Caine from Capt to D/Ch and RAU from Insp to Chief!! Those are some very significant jumps in rank for some people who did not deserve it. He blew up the Det Division which was running pretty well until these guys came in. As for the new guy (and lady)... jury is still out.

Integrity starts from the top down - in a private company or a police department. There have been plenty of good Chiefs (and some not so good) that have come and gone. Unfortunately, when you start promoting people from Capt/DI to 3/4 stars.... it raises a number of questions. First, about the promotion process not bng about the best person for the job, but how your politically connected, and secondly, when you have a Chief (who is a visable leader within the PD) going around with a cops wife in front of everyone... or if they have integrity issues known to all...what does that say?

Couldn't agree more. It's not about performance or leadership. Getting the job done doesn't matter. The only things that matter are which politicians you can suck up to and/or how many people you can crush to make yourself look good. Those things were always part of the equation in the past.
