more than a few have changed.... they are not staying with a party who refuses to run young people, women or minorities and who are out of touch...

Why on earth would someone starting out in life want to get involved with this Nassau Republican Committee. There's no chance at upward mobility. If you're not from Levittown, Italian (maybe Irish) and have parents that know Mondello from the old days, you aren't going anywhere. Name one young candidate the party has backed, with the exception of Bonilla and that was just because he is the token minority. However, if you get a chance to talk to Mark one-on-one, I am sure he'll give you the real scoop: Mondello made him lots of promises and has kept NONE of them. He's stuck in the job for another term and then he's out. Frankly, I wouldn't be too surprised if he jumped over to the dems. Anyway, I digress. The bottomline is Joe doesn't give anyone that isn't part of his innercircle a chance. You have guys out there like Chris Bastardi who are real genuine Republicans and, guess what, he's actually a bright guy with fresh ideas. No chance Joe would think of giving him a shot. He wants people like Angie Cullen that are old, tired and easy to control. It's all about control with Joe.

On the other hand, Dems just want to win and they'll accept anyone into the party that can give Joe a fit. Heck, look at Steve Levy. Name a guy that Joe has on the ballot this year that is any more conservative than Levy??? Dems can run the spectrum from lunatic lib to uber-conservative Levy. If I were starting out fresh in politics and was ambitious, I would be a dem. Let's face it, if you know what's what, the "issues" (abortion, immigration, taxes etc) are the stuff they talk about to satisfy the rank and file, but when push comes to shove they could care less and it's about power, influence and money. You can just as easily be a dem as a rep and it would make no difference. Sorry if I sound cynical, but it's the truth.
