11 September does not belong to the war-mongers

WTC victims’ families speak out against Iraq war

“On 11 September, the Stop the War Coalition will join all those mourning the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians in the United States a year ago,” a Stop the War Coalition spokesperson said today.

“On this day we should all remember that the military action planned by the USA would result in the infliction of multiple World Trade Center scale calamities on innocent civilians in Iraq. Already, the US and British bombing of Afghanistan has taken the lives of at l 5,000 innocent civilians.

“We do not believe that this day belongs to the advocates of war.

“The attempts by some in the media and the government to use this day to promote an invasion of Iraq are deeply offensive and demonstrate a disrespect for the sufferings of the victims of 11 September.

“Every attempt to link the Iraqi regime to the terror attacks of 11 September has failed.

“On 11 September, we should remember that the ‘war on terror’ has done nothing to bring justice or relief to the victims of 11 September, or peace and security elsewhere in the world. Indeed, it has exacerbated the underlying causes of that tragedy.”

In the USA on 11 September, relatives of the victims of the 11 September attacks will be speaking out against war. In thr anniversary statement, the September 11 Families for a Peaceful Tomorrow – all of whom lost a family member at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon or on Flight 93 - declare:

“The contemplated invasion of Iraq—a nation that has no proven links to the events of September 11—in the name of the ‘war on terrorism’ means that more American service people and more civilians would die, with unforeseen effects on our security, our economy, our ability to address the root causes of terrorism, and our relationship with other nations…

“We believe it is time to stop dropping bombs and to start paying attention. To start asking difficult questions. To start listening to a multitude of voices. And to start exploring—and using—effective alternatives to war… No other family, anywhere on earth, should have to experience the pain and loss we experienced on September 11.”

SEPTEMBER 11th FAMILY MEMBERS RETURN FROM IRAQ
Delegation Challenges World Leaders to Win Without War

News Release

NEW YORK CITY—Returning from six days of making people-to-people contacts at schools, hospitals and universities in Baghdad and Basra, Iraq, family members of September 11 victims challenged world leaders to “use some imagination” to find alternatives to military action in that nation. The four-member delegation represents September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, an advocacy group seeking effective, non-violent alternatives to war and terrorism.

“During our trip, I met a people who want thr country healthy again, and thr children happy,” said Kat Tinley, whose Uncle, Mike Tinley, perished at the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. “Like much of the world, the people of Iraq have known violence entirely too long, and they long for peace.”

“We talked with the teachers of a primary school who described the hopes they have for thr students,” added Terry Rockefeller, who lost her sister, Laura Rockefeller, at the twin towers. “We found a striking commonality in our grief for lost loved ones and our dreams for our children.”

The delegation also visited the Amariyah bomb shelter and met relatives of the hundreds of civilians who died after a U.S. missile struck the shelter on February 14th, 1991.

“The personal connections we made with the people of Iraq have been very deep and meaningful,” said Kristina Olsen, whose sister Laurie Nra, was aboard Flight 11 on September 11, 2001. “Meeting with sick children and families who have lost loved ones has underscored the importance of the human bond that we share in our mutual suffering.”

Colleen Kelly, who lost her brother, Bill Kelly, Jr., at the World Trade Center, added, “In Iraq, we have begun to realize our hope of connecting a human face and story to the people of Iraq. This has only deepened our resolve to petition the governments of this world to explore every viable, peaceful alternative to the crisis here, using creative and perhaps non-conventional diplomacy.”

In a press conference at the U.N. Church Center in New York City, the delegation also recognized that January 15 was the birthday of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose 1967 declaration that “wars are poor chisels for carving out peaceful tomorrows” provided the inspiration for the group’s name.

September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows was launched on February 14, 2002, and today includes more than 50 family members directly affected by September 11, as well as 2,000 supporters. Its mission is to seek effective nonviolent solutions to terrorism, and to acknowledge the shared experience of September 11 families with all people similarly affected by violence throughout the world. By conscientiously exploring peaceful options in thr search for justice, the group’s members work to break the endless cycle of violence and retaliation engendered by war. In doing so, they hope to create a safer world for themselves and for thr children.

JC you idiot what does war with Iraq have anything to do with September 11?

If you want to blame anyone for september 11, blame yourself. It's arrogant people like you that cause our country to be a target. How about caring for the whole world and just yourself and maybe the next september 11 can be avoided. Until then idiots like you will continue to make everyone else around you a target.

It's idiots like you that are so ignorant to think that terrorists will stop attacking if we just show love, peace and harmony. If your idea is so great where the hell were you on 9/11? What would happen if the terrorists were able to get a hold of WMD? I'm almost positive you wouldn't be sticking by what you say now. Sadaam says he doesn't have WMD, but yet he says that if America attacks he'd use them on our soldiers. And no matter what we do Americans will always be THE TARGET for terrorists. They think Christians and Americans are all evil. So don't you think it would be a far better idea to get rid of terrorists and thr supporters before they get rid of us. Think back did we provoke 9/11? I think not. They will always think the same things about us. Taking out WMD, even if by war, will prevent greater tragedies in the future. These people don't mess around and nther should we. They kill thr own people what makes you think they'll let us live?

"It's arrogant people like you that cause our country to be a target" - no, it is people like you that cause beating after beating. You are crazy if you think Bin Laden had the funding and knowledge for that scale of attack on his own. If you do not think saddam is in anyway connected you need to pull your head out of your ass to get some fresh air. He may not have done the attack, but the ass sure as hell supports terrorism and the hatred of Americans.

Who funded Iraq when they were fighting Iran in the 80's? Who funded Bin Laden when they needed help against the Northern Alliance and the Russians in the 80's? The US! Guess that kinda blew up in your faces. It's always so easy to blaim it on someone else than to look at yourselves.

----------------------------------------------------

Jack Palance in the movie Shane... Throwing the pistol at the sheep herder's feet:

"Pick it up."

"I don't wanna pick it up mister, you'll shoot me."

"Pick up the gun".

"Mister, I don't want no trouble huh. I just came down town here to get some hard rock candy for my kids, some gingham for my wife. I don't even know what gingham is, but she goes through about 10 rolls a week of that stuff. I ain't looking for no trouble mister."

"Pick up the gun."

Boom boom

"You all saw him. He had a gun."

I'm sure you can all see the analogy.

it is no secret that we have trained and equipped to a certain extent some countries that we end up fighting.
That, however, does not support this statment: "It's always so easy to blaim it on someone else than to look at yourselves."

Try this analogy: A store clerk sees a robber brutally stab and kill several innocent people in front of his store. The man is obviously deranged. The store clerk recognizes the man from previous assaults on hapless victims. The man hides the knife in his clothing and comes into the store covered in the blood of his victims. The store clerk arms himself with a gun and corners the man. The man claims he's not a killer and asks the clerk to put down the gun so they can talk. The clerk asks him to put down the knife. He says he doesn't have one. Bystanders also tell the man to put down the knife, but he ignores them as well. The clerk knows if he puts the gun down he will be attacked or someone else will. The man is becoming more and more agitated and begins talking about holy war, infidels and satan. He begins to tell the onlookers that he is bng bullied and threatened by the store clerk. People who have gathered outside the store have no idea what the man has done, and begin to side with him, telling the clerk to back off and let the man go, that there is no need for violence. The standoff continues until the clerk, knowing someone will be attacked soon, shoots the man in defense of everyone in the store.

So....if I read you correctly, this store clerk is the agressor and is guilty of murder, right???

I'M SURE YOU CAN SEE THE ANALOGY, CAN'T YOU?

Hey midgetbones, check this out. I've been reading Azerty Qwerty posts from out of left field here, and I found something interesting. He also posted to some oddball website forum that discusses music? bands. Check it out...click on his user ID and check his recent posts. Now his posts make perfect sense. He's a fan of "goth" music... you know, that head banging, mosh pit pink haired, tatooed, pierced nose/ear/lip crowd? Hey Qweerty, come back and post after you've paid your dues and contributed something to society.

"Try this analogy: A store clerk sees a robber brutally stab and kill several innocent people in front of his store..."
And why not make it an accurate one: the police show up (led by, oh, Detective Blix). They search the guy down for weapons and the white trash, Wal-Mart-shopping, survival magazine-reading, mullet-wearing store owner (let's call him George B.) keeps waving his revolver around and telling the authorities to step aside. Suddenly everyone recognizes that this is the insane freak who's endangering everyone.

WT Benjamin: your analogy is poor. First off, Hans Blix should not be equated with a detective. He is biased and willfully withholds facts to avoid bng the catalyst for war. He represents a "United Nations" that has relegated itself to irrelevance by its inaction and timidity in the face of conflict. Secondly, your utter hatred for our president(comparing him to white trash) precludes you from any rational thought processes. Have a nice day comrade.

Touche! Sorry, I should have cleared that up for you. The GWB/white trash is the one part that wasn't just an analogy.

What does my musical taste have to do with anything? You must have a really boring and pathetic life if you have got nothing better to do then to read what I post on other forums.

At l you uphold the American way of life by acting prejudiced and generalising without thinking first.
