Democrat-Steve Levy came up with an excellent plan that would have allowed deputization of Suffolk County police officers trained by Department of
Homeland Security to arrest illegal aliens if they could not prove who they were.
This would be in the context of the police doing thr normal operating procedures. They would not have done sweeps or mass questioning of people but if they thought people were acting suspiciously or had done some kind of infraction they could ask for proper identification.
If police saw what they suspected was gang activity they could at l question those involved on thr identification.
Leave it to Republican- Paul Tonna to be on the side of illegal workers and employers. On the side of gang members drug dealers rapists and murderers.
Paul Tonna's apathy for doing whats right is repugnant. He is nothing more than a spokesman and activist for the Catholic church and progressive socialists everywhere.
Who ever gave him the Republican line has done a great disservice to the party and Long Island.

Where does Tonna's protege Ron Cohen position himself with this issue. We all know he is running for tonna's vacant seat and probably will get the Republican nomination and Tonna will buy him a few minor party endorsements so he can stay involved....

If you think Tonna is bad for Suffolk County...wait til you see Ron Cohen! This would be enough to have the people of Suffolk push to end the Suffolk County Legislature. They are going from bad to worse and don't get anything done anyway. They think they are the only game in town but no one is paying any attention and they waste our taxpayer dollars. Get rid of the entire SC Legislature - Cohen would be a major major farce to this circus

To Local Kid- Answer: Lifson, Martin, Asher and Hackeling. The leaders of the Republican Party at the time put Tonna in the seat. They are all judges now. Remember the four of them and what they did to the party when they come up for reelection as judges.

Needham does not live in Tonna's district, I doubt he will move into Tonna's district, and he will not run for Tonna's seat. Needham ran for Tonna's seat last time because the district had just been changed based on the 2000 census. When there are new district lines, one does not have to live in the district in which he or she runs just for that year. If that person wins, then they have to be a resident of the district when they are sworn in. Needham ran for that seat in 2001 as a favor to the Dem party when the Dem candidate dropped out of the race. I can tell you that Needham is not going to be the candidate in Tonna's ditrict. There is another active candidate who lives in the district who will get the Dem nod and probably win.

Garetano will win this seat, and do a good job for the people. He's forming a committee, working in deer park, and has south huntington. He'll be a working county legislator who cares about the middle class, of all colors.

this is old garbage and you know it. You've had more than enough time to foil. I have, and you are wrong. If there is something there that I missed, bring it out. By the way, are you aware that Garetano was not on the board for 3years, he left in 2000 and came back in 2003. the time you are talking about. And he played a major role in the resturcturing of the business department. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!!

Tonna looked pathetic as he tried to explain that illegal alien rapists and murderers shouldn't be deported
A progressive

If you are not a Native American Indian, your ancestors were illegal aliens. They came here so you could have a better life. Interestingly enough, most brown skinned non european looking Mexicans descend from Native peoples. So first your ancestors arrived here and stole the land and resources from the original inhabitants and now you descendents scream about the illegality of the descendants of the original inhabitants. Let's face it, ignorant racism is alive and well in the US. The Republicans and this country are lucky to have a guy like Paul Tonna.
Tonna is a racist

Levy is scoring big points with most of the public
he is sounding fair while his self righteousness sounds like a demagog for Reverend Ramirez
the new age racists are the people who put thr ethnicity first and bng American last
did you see how frustrate
12-17-2004, 05:17 AM
Mexican population that is a mixture of native indians and europeans and others mostly brown skin are entering this country illegally in huge numbers encouraged by
none other than white european( Spanish ) Mexicans who have thr own racists among them
Mexico has a history still taking place of mistreating and abusing thr native indigenous citizens. So when progressive talks about racists the white elitists Mexicans are the worst.:"> :"> :">
Once Again

Once again the Native American Indian argument enters the picture. And the response goes like this:
The freedom and liberty we all enjoy comes from the Constitution and the Bill 0f Rights. Those documents were written by:
a) The Founding Fathers
b) Native American Indians
c) Captain James T. Kirk of the starship Enterprise
d) Posters on this board
Answer: a) The Founding Fathers

I respect Paul Tonna for what he is doing, as a citizen, but as a county legislator he is 100% wrong. He is paid and elected to represent his district, which he is not, and his side kick cohen is not. We need elected officials, who we pay well, to represent us. they are our employees and must do what we want. or do what they want and not take the payl.

Dog- just a little correction. Needham ran in 2003; Ray Zaccarro ran in 2001. As a matter of fact I have heard his name mentioned several times to run in 05'. Who knows? But this one will be a good race to watch. I also heard that a hand picked Levy guy named D'Maro is running for the Dems. This is a seat that could switch.
whats on second

Anyone knows what Tonna  will do once his term ends? Will he get out of politics?
I'll pray that he will.
