Anyone have a list, informal or formal, of who is seeking the Democratic nods for the assembly seats?

All I know as of now, is that all Democratic incumbents are seeking re-election. [Eddington, Levy, Englebright]

(By the way, Dareen is a nice guy and a great candidate--check out the web-site!!!)

In hopes that this category leads AD candidates here, here is my list of easy things I wish could get done in Albany:

1. Rule for petitioning that a candidate's party enrollment needs to be on the petition.

(Seems easy, but last year, there were huge problems because some judges, etc., went around with petitions for Green line and just kind of acted like they were Greens..it happened to other minor parties, too, I heard.)

2. Create a Third Party/Insurgent Candidate Commissioner for County and State Boards of Election.

All the third parties should get behind this. We deserve to be represented, because sometimes we are working to fight off Democrat and Republican candidates. Also, last year the major party reps at Suffolk Board were genuinely so busy with thr own stuff and priorities, we did not get informed in timely way when we had primaries we didn't know about.

In discussing this, we have thought of logistics and money. Perhaps there should be "2" Third Party Commissioners. All the third parties draw straws and chose a side like choosing teams. Another thought is that all the third party chairs agree on a commissioner. Another thought is a rotating Commissioner where every third party gets two years to have commissioner. The logistics could be worked out, but we do need someone there for us. It is a grassroots democracy issue.

3. Town budgets should be due BEFORE election day.

Same with COUNTY. To create instant accontability, instead of surprise tax hikes like in the Town of Babylon and with Suffolk County Legislature this year.

4. Town budgets should require a public hearing on the last, final, actual budget. They actually don't now. The original budget must have a hearing, but the town has the chance to revise it and then vote on it with no public hearing.

Also, sadly, after a certain date, a budget goes through automatically. Doesn't say much for Democracy. Makes you realize how much you better trust your town supervisor.

The Independence Party is making great gains with the Initiative and Referendum stuff. I think we all have to be careful that it doesn't make it too easy for a person or industry with a lot of money to get something on the ballot. It has to be well-written.

We're not supposed to post direct links to candidate websites here but maybe I can get away with this description ...

In your browser type the candidate's last name and (dot) GS. The GS stands for government service.

If that link doesn't work, try the Suffolk Liberal Party website ...
