""I deeply resent the destruction of federalism represented by Hillary Clinton's willingness to go into a state she doesn't even live in and pretend to represent people there. So I certainly wouldn't imitate it."

Keyes Will Run for Senate in Illinois
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

ARLINGTON HGHTS, Ill. (AP) -- Alan Keyes, the Maryland political commentator who has been critical of candidates parachuting into states where they don't live to run for office, announced Sunday he will enter the U.S. Senate race in Illinois.

Keyes has done nothing to inform you of his "integrity" - but he has done a lot to inform us of his lack of it.
But this thread isn't about Kerry - you conservatives are becoming enraged the more it becomes clear he will win - it's about Keyes' - and the Republicans' - hypocrisy.
Read the two quotes - then respond without spinning or changing the subject - or don't respond at all.

Was there anything in my post starting this thread about Keyes bng a conservative, or Keyes bng an African-American who is "independent" of mainstream African-American political thought?
Of course not....which is why you chose to make it about that.
The thread is about the particularly Republican hypocrisy of criticizing anything at all about a Democratic candidate - and then FLIP FLOPPING and doing exactly what you criticized the Democrat for doing.
KEYES IS A GOOD REPUBLICAN...IE, A HYPOCRITE.

tell you what, you get Clinton to step down and go back home, and then we can have Keyes decide not to run.

Still can't quite come out and admit you're a bunch of lying hypocrites, can you?
Keyes criticized Senator Clinton, and then did exactly what he criticized her for doing. She never said it was wrong to move to a new state to run for office; Keyes did, and now he's moving to a new state to run for office. You may not like the idea, but Senator Clinton is no hypocrite; Keyes clearly is.
It doesn't matter to me who you run; not only will anyone you can possibly dream up lose, they'll lose to a future President of the United States...the kind in your worst nightmare: an African-American President.

Keyes didn't flip-flop. Clinton was clearly just moving states so she could win in the Senate. Keyes is doing the patriotic thing and helping out his Party - and his country - by filling in at the last minute. There's no problem.
Keyes is a real American who represents what the real African American voice is in this country: conservative.
He will easily win in Illinois and go on to serve that state for many many years to come.

sounds like Osama. I do not think the world is ready for this guy. Spin all you want, Democratic ninnies. The combination of Ted Kennedy, Barack Osamo, Al Sharpton, and the McGreevey relevations will turn out the GOP's base amongst normal people who are offended by the Democrats and thr off the wall nonsense.
Most normal folks simply reject governors who place thr gay lovers in charge of Homeland Security in a state which is in the red zone for terrorist threats. Senate candidates which sound even remotely like Osama. Have the Democrats lost thr collective minds" Of course not. They never had minds to begin with.
This really looks like the Dems are throwing the Presidential race so that Hillary Clinton can bust a move in 2008, and not have to face an incumbent. ther that, or they are totally nuts.

Once again, a conservative can't defend an indefensible action by a fellow conservative - Carpetbagger Keyes - so he changes the subject: to something idiotic.
The soon-to-be-Senator from Illinois is named Barack Obama. I know you don't get it now, but over the next ght or ten years, you will....by that time, you'll have a lot of practice writing hate-filled messages on this board about "President Obama."
I know of only two idiots who mistook his name for binLaden's - you and W.
By the way, scholars will note that in a short little post like his, "It's All in the Name" managed to be racist, misogynist, homophobic, and classist. I know a "hat trick" is for 3 - what's the term for 4?

As an Independent and a conservative, I'll say straight out Hillary Clinton was a carpetbagger and so is Alan Keyes. In NY, the label of Carpetbagger doesn't lure traction. After all, NY has a history of electing out-of-staters. Kennedy was another one. People don't care about that here. In IL, it's a different story. In this race, the Democratic candidate is so popular with the voters, no Republican, including Keyes is going to win that one. And yeah, will have a very difficult time explaining those statements he's made in the past..but he's lose anyway. Some things no matter how hard you try -- it just doesn't sell.
The GOP will pick up Senate Seats in SC, GA and POSSIBLY NC - the Edwards seat. Dems will likely pick up seats in IL and CO is now looking good for them. CO might just swing Dem this time. That's a state to watch closely.

Alaska, where the Dems will most likely pick up a seat.
And the other poster: according to your logic, both Clinton and Keyes are carpetbaggers. You think both of them are. Thanks for clearing that up.
According to Keyes' logic, though, only Keyes is the HYPOCRITE, for saying what Clinton did in 2000 was wrong, and then doing the same thing. Clinton never claimed there was anything wrong with moving to a new state and running.
Which proves the point of this thread: Another Conservative Hypocrite.
And by the way: Keyes is moving - with less than 3 months to go - to a state he knows nothing about and has done nothing to learn about to fill a spot he didn't earn or have to fight to get; Senator Clinton extensively toured NY state and moved here earlier, campaigning from the beginning to earn the right to run on the Democratic ticket in the Senate race in 2000.

Thanks for reminding me about The Last Frontier. Democratic Senate Primary in Alaska is on 8/24. Yes, very good chance for the Democrats there with Fmr. Gov Knowles. Mulkowski, when he assumed the office of Governor, appionted his daughter to fill the remainder of his unexpired Senate term. Didn't go over well with Alaska voters.
I like Alan Keyes. However, with that said, when he's wrong, as he is now, I can't defend him. He should have stayed out of this race and let the IL GOP worry about finding someone from inside the state of replace Ryan on the ballot. They had an opportunity to do that with a former Bush administration official who is a resident of the state, but insisted, decided to offer Keyes the nomination. Bad mistake. In a Chicago Sun-Times polls this week, Keyes recved just 28%. Mike Ditka could have been stronger!

That "former Bush Administration official" was a train wreck worse than Ryan, politically and PR-wise, at l. She had to leave her job after sexually harrassing an employee, and then lied about it, and then tried to make light of it. It all fell to pieces before it began.
The IL GOP foreshadows, I believe, the National GOP downfall.
