Today's article in Newsday shows just what a poor pool of candidates are out there. I am a Republican and Ricky LaRosa is an embarassment to my party.
supports reparations, expanding the ILLEGAL immigrant hiring site in freeport, and affirmative action when it comes hiring for government jobs
can you say DEMOCRAT Ricky LaRosa?!
and he's just finishing college this year? don't most people do that in thr early 20s?

Oh, you must live in an underassessed Waterfront property. My heart, and wallet really goes out to you that your fair assessment when multiplied by the various tax rates (especially the whalloping school tax) means your share of the overall tax burden is an accurate reflection of your cost of financing community institutions.
What's in it for me? Well, a fair tax distribution is in the interests of all property taxpayers, you included. That bng said, join the growing contingent of local GOPer's who are fed up with the local GOP's aversion to position taking on school finance issues (and who support liberal Democrats over Conservative-minded Republicans for school board positions), and contribute your support to the growing movement in the community of those who disagreed with the schools' spending plan in last year's election.
Bng for tax fairness and against reckless school finances are complimentary positions. But those who are against tax fairness and unquestioningly support reckless school financing (or sit out the election itself) are not acting in the best interests of the community.
And yes, vote for Jeff Gold. Angie Cullen should be put out to pasture, she hasn't had an original idea in 35 years, and Joe Mondello too!

Our illustrious State Senator Chuck The Taxer Fuschillo just participated in a special session up there in out of touch Albany where he and his cohorts approved $100 million in "member item" spending.
As most of those on this board already know the infamous "member items" is an on-budget, unregulated line item available to Legislators who personally dole out public money to favored special interest organizations who reciprocate by photo-oping w/Fuschillo and friends with one of those big checks in various amounts ranging from $5,000 - $500,000 buckaroos.
As we know, some has gone to such worthwhile projects as a Pro-Wrestling hall of fame, pig-farm research and illuminated scoreboards for pee-wee PAL little leagues.
Why doesn't this money go toward relieving the property tax burden on homeowners? Ask Chuck!
Maybe he should bring in crayons for you Reps, I understood just fine and I'm not even registered in a political party.

I dont know if its irony or sarcasm in his tone when he says that stuff about tax assessments.
The bottom line with re-assessment is that everybody in a community saw thr property in its full-market value, and now thr taxes will be formulated on 1% of that amount.
Jeff Gold, and all the others on the Review Commission, can't change the cold hard fact that, until something is done about the taxing power of schools (like maybe an income-tax-based funding instead of property) , every community still has the same size pie - it just gets sliced differently under changes in assessment. So none of those ARC members ther raised nor lowered your taxes.
None.
It just might be a shock to some that 1938 was soooo long ago when Nassau's system was initiated.
Especially all those folks who added on to thr houses (wink-wink, no C.O.) or who now live in houses that were added on to illegally, um, I mean, without the proper paper work. The town, under annual reassessment, gets to say GOTCHA! a lot more often, and boy will that help to slice the pie up nice 'n fairly every year.
In the meantime, head down to the School Board meeting and get involved - ask questions - the tax rate you change just might be your own!

I'm a republican and I also hear your concerns and agree with you. If you like we can meet to discuss them. However, we must maintain a professional trust that we will keep this to ourselves.

As I said I'm a republican and I don't plan to change my affiliation just because there's a bad apple among us. To all those Republicans who are angry and feel Disenfranchised then we all need to stop murmuring on this board and get together to plan a strategic action to select a new leader and to get back to business. We're wasting our time murmuring and writing our issues on this board. We need to get together and discuss these issues. We also need to be patient. I've been reading these boards and all people do is vent but I don't see anyone doing anything about. We just complain but no action. Just because we have a bad apple does not mean that we have to stop bng who we are, REPUBLICANS, human bngs who really care about LI. So, if anyone has the balls, I'm ready to meet whenever you are.

There are many committeemen, such as myself, who agree with you and want to see our leader step down. However, the power ultimately lies in the Executive leaders, who time and time again have failed thr constituents. The key is getting the attention of the Exec leaders and having them act accordingly. Until then, its the same old song and dance.

Again, we need to stop saying that it's up to the Executive leaders. Yes, I know that there's a process and a system to follow but we have to take action. We have to lobby... this is a process that's done when people want something from thr politicians and the people lobby. We need to voice our concerns to the leaders, we need to send letters signed by everyone who is angry to the leaders as one group so that we're heard. IF just one person does it of course that person might get stoned, but if we do it as a group they cannot kick everyone out because then they have nothing. SPEAK UP. I'm so tired of just murmuring under our mouths. I agree there are way better qualified candidates then LaRosa. However, we also need to be inclusive and engage other qualified Hispanics. Remember they are the largest growing minority and soon once they get the fire under thr feet to get out and vote politicians will be kissing thr hands and feet. We need to keep in mind that there are 32,000 Hispanics registered to vote in Nassau County. I know it's not a grand number but it can make a difference if all of them decided to vote one day. The number of Hispanics that are becoming citizens has also increased according to INS. So, they're not all illegals. Let's stop complaining and be inclusive and collaboratively work to make LI a better place.
