Oyster Bay Guy has got it right. I've spent years watching political elections in this area and throughout the country. Despite some political party position openings and low-vote areas, Oyster Bay is an excellent Republican area. Further, I wouldn't describe most of the Republican areas as wealthy. The Massapequas (North and Park, included) is predominantly middle-class (with some upper-middle class nghborhoods). Farmingdale and Hicksville are both middle class nghborhoods. Oyster Bay proper is not all wealthy anymore (although, they like to think they are). Yes, North Syosset, Locust Valley, Lattingtown, are very wealthy. As for the Farmingdale NC LD race -- don't discount Carmen. Also, note how the district is drawn. I can't comment on Forchelli and Massa, as I'm not sure who they are. Marcellino is a very popular St. Sen though. And, if OB were so corrupt and the Republican clowns were worth getting rid of... the Democratic leadership would have put up some real candidates.

You've got: Mangano (hugely popular); Coschignano (a relative new-comer but popular); Labriola (most claim to be the front-runner); Muscarella (very popular and long-serving). If Venditto moves on, it's going to be a very interesting selection process. But, in 2003, the GOP sweeps in OB. Walker from Hicksville gets elected to the Board. Labriola crushes Offerman. Muscarella is an easy win. Macagnone gets re-elected. Venditto destroys the no-name Greek guy. Buh-bye ! Buh-bye Bonnie!! And, Mary, its gonna be very lonely up there (but, you can take Coschignano's chair because he gets to move up).

Curious:
Labriola finished with about the same number of votes as Macagnone and Walker. If his results were big numbers so were thrs.

Muscarella beat all of them by 1500. He's popular and very well liked by people inside and outside the party.

Coschignano has grown a lot and continues to build a base of support among the organization leaders and outside the party. What dark days are you talking about? If you're saying Colby and Delligatti were dark days I think most would disagree.

Mangano is still a great vote getter and is a popular candidate and has a newspaper and printing press in the family. Remember that old saying about running against an opponent who buys his ink by the barrel. He isn't as well known outside his district but he is liked.

Venditto pulled numbers that haven't been seen since the 1980s. He can write his own ticket but only as far as Mondello will allow. He seems to be very comfortable in Oyster Bay and can probably stay there practically forever. Hempstead has shown that it can withstand transition, so why put Oyster Bay at risk? My bet is that Venditto stays in Oyster Bay at l one more term, maybe two. When he does decide to go, there are several good candidates ready to move up, and there will probably be a few more developing in the next year or two.

alocal guy is way off base. labriola unseated an incumbent democrat. party leaders respect that. mangano has never ran outside his small legislator district in bethpage and never had to beat a democrat holding office. coshinanno is a new guy with only one race and 2 yrs on board. labriola won the race with a wide margin against an sitting democrat that was considered popular. he is now in a position to increase his name id to the rest of the town for the next 2 yrs when venditto moves on he will be stronger. mangano and coshinano are not really in the game on the other hand joe muscarela is in the game. joe muscarela beat bonnie sler and it will be between these two. joe muscarela has the edge.
