This guy was not at work. He was at home in his volly fire house, thats right he is a volly

It didn't say it directly in this article, but he was not a member of the volunteer department. He got in through a back door, stole the rig and went on a joyride.

Not true...He was and still is a volly, unless his dept decides to throw him out for this, wich I hope they do.

Several businesses were wiped out by an early morning blaze Tuesday in the Corona section of Queens.

The three-alarm fire broke out just after 2 a.m. in a commercial building located at 3926 104th Street near Roosevelt Avenue.

About 140 firefighters were on the scene to battle the blaze and got the flames under control at 4:18 a.m., a fire department spokesman said.

Five or six businesses were destroyed, including a gift shop, a bakery and a small grocery store, according to published reports.

Three firefighters sustained minor injuries and were taken to Elmhurst hospital.

The building was located underneath the No. 7 subway line tracks and service was briefly disrupted, but restored for the morning rush.

Some streets near the fire site and still blocked off this morning, including Roosevelt Avenue between 103rd and 105th streets.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Cops: Drunk Firefighter Steals Fire Truck
(CBS) CLOSTER, N.J. A firefighter from Rockland County was charged with DWI after he reportedly stole a fire truck and drove it to a fire in New Jersey.

Police say Raymond Oprey was determined to battle a blaze at a shopping center in Closter, N.J. So Oprey, who says he's a firefighter with an FDNY ladder company in the Bronx, allegedly stole a fire truck from the Rocklgh Fire Department near his home and headed to the scene, using the radio inside the truck several times.

According to Northvale Police Captain Vincent St. Angelo, "I believe he made three transmissions on his way down, as far as, 'I'm on the way' -- something to do with 'I have the agua.'"

The problem is that Rocklgh wasn't called for mutual aid, so police at the scene became suspicious, especially when he pulled up with the fire truck headlights off and right onto the grass.

"They detected an odor of alcoholic beverage, and just the way he was talking," said St. Angelo.

Oprey, 33, was taken into custody and this was the only explanation he gave to police.

"Basically, he said he wanted to help Closter. He wanted to know if they needed help," St. Angelo said.

The small town of Rocklgh only has two fire trucks. They are grateful that the truck was returned intact.

Oprey lives in Palisades, N.Y., on the New Jersey border.

He was charged with burglary and unlawful taking of means of conveyance. He faces three to five years if convicted of the charges against him.

A Hempstead firefighter charged with third-degree burglary after breaking into a Uniondale firehouse thought he could take advantage of antiquated security, a top fire official and police said.

Firefighter Alan Jacoby, 27, was familiar with the security system at the firehouse at 577 Park Ave. because he had worked there for years. He figured turning off lights would render its security cameras useless, Uniondale Fire Commission chairman Mervyn Campbell said Wednesday.

But Jacoby didn't know that the cameras had been upgraded to infrared since he left. The lenses pierced the dark, catching him on Sept. 12 as he rummaged through firetrucks and firefighting gear, Campbell and police said.

"He's in there prowling around at 3 in the morning," said Det. Lt. Andrew Fal of Nassau's First Squad. "He seemed to be going from place to place, truck to truck."

After his arrest Monday, Jacoby, of 17 Cynthia Ct. in Hempstead, told police he had just wanted to reclaim a hydraulic tool and a set of golf clubs he left behind. Jacoby couldn't be reached for comment.

Jacoby, also a New York City fire dispatcher, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Hempstead's First District Court. He was later released without bail pending his next court hearing Friday.

Campbell said the commission is investigating if anything was taken.

"He was trying to take advantage of us," Campbell said. "The safety of the firefighters and the residents have been breached."

Hempstead Fire Chief Robert Noonan said Jacoby, a member of his department for about four years, has been suspended.

"I really don't want to comment," he said. "I just prefer to let the investigation run its course."

Earlier this month, someone cut the lock of a rear entrance of the firehouse on at l four different occasions, Campbell said. Initially, there were no signs that anyone entered the firehouse.

To figure out who was responsible, Campbell and a firehouse supervisor reviewed digital recordings stored on in-house computers.

Recordings from a hidden rear camera showed Jacoby driving up, opening the trunk of his car and grabbing something he used to cut open the gate, Campbell said. Later, they watched as he made his way to the firetruck bay.

"You see him turn the lights off, but the infrared cameras picked him up," Campbell said.

After about 30 minutes, Jacoby left the way he came.

Campbell, who has known Jacoby since he was 9, said he once considered him like a son. He said Jacoby worked as a Uniondale firefighter from July 1997 through October 2004.

"It's betrayal," he said. "It's a brother firefighter. We are supposed to look out for each other."

Says here that he is a NYC Fire Dispatcher, guess that means he is employed by FDNY.....

The dispatchers are not part of the fire department (FDNY). That is like saying a 911 operator is a police officer

14. EEO & Drug Raids, Random tests In addition to its Random Drug Testing visits, the Department continues to 'raid' (surprise inspection) firehouses. It is also conducting EEO inspection visits. Members are advised to notify the UFA whenever a 'raid' (which is different than a Random Drug Test visit) or EEO visit occurs

Sounds like sooooomebody's jealous..............................

10-17-2006, 06:59 PM
Jealous of what? Your inability to carry out your sworn function without acting out like a five year old? Jealous because you guys have a track record that is close to that of the normal Rikers Island Inmate? Or jealous because you work part - time for full time wages and benefits that most would be grateful to get?

No, not jealous, just unable to comprehend your neanderthal ways and your constant failures as human bngs.

Well, you have F*ckups in all walks of society, you're gonna get them in the fire service as well. And the FD is canning most of them, as they should.

Looks like you are jealous because of the work schedule. Oh, well. Like it or not, fire protection is a vital service whether out on the road or in quarters. Remember, a quiet tour in the firehouse means someone didnt lose thr house or a family member to fire.

Even with America having the most technologically advanced equipment, tactics and training, America still has the highest fire death rate in the free world.

And bng in the emergency services PD, FD, EMS, you only become good at your profession at someone elses expense. So, sorry, a quiet night is a nice trade off compared to a robbery, murder, heart attack, or fire. Especially if it is you or your family. Think about that.

And studies have shown firemen live an average of 10 years less than the normal male.

So I'd rather stay in a firehouse than pull a body out, or watch someone lose everything they work for to a fire.

So we should run all night to keep you happy?

The papers and new's stories about the FDNY are mostly negitive because that is what is going to sell papers. What you don't hear are the real stories that happen on a daily basis. There is a captain who is recving an award for work he did for three little girls who lost there parents and were burnt in a fire. Not while he was working, but on his own time. Long after the fire was over. He raised money and gave alot of his own so these little girls could have burn suits so there scars would not be so bad. He spent time in the hospital with them. and even made sure they ended up in a good home with thr family. For every drunk storie that is out there I know of a hundred like this. Like it was said before there are bad apples in every job ,BUT in the FDNY the good far out number the bad!!!

Dirty Deeds Sell Papers
10-19-2006, 02:53 PM
I agree, most of the stuff that hits the papers or the news is the bad stuff because everybody loves a scandal. A good human interest story sells papers for about an hour while a bad deed would sell papers for weeks on end and make the six and eleven o'clock news as well. It works the same for the cops, and any other public employement. People want to hear the dirt man.

Nice try heros, but you aren't kidding anybody with your holier than thou BS. It's always been the same for you creatins - we're great - you suck, anybody who has a problem with that sux too! You guys were found out right after 9/11 when they were carting you off three or four at a time for theft. I saw this with my own eyes as I did construction work at ground zero for fourteen months.
At first I thought it had to be a mistake, then it became very evident that it was no mistake, these were FF that were bng led away in custody. Nice and quiet, from the site to the Pct. a few blocks away, written appearance notices, suspended pending investigation by the dept. then inevidably forced to resign facing dismissal. The worst part is that they held back the criminal charges in lieu of the agreed upon silence by all parties.

Your gone, talk and the charges will go forward!

They should have hung those bastards from the steel we were ripping down!

yea ok

Well, give the job some credit for cleaning house. There's another thread debating this with a one sided debate. But don't look to the FD for silence. Someone in law enforcement made the decision. And at l the FD showed them the door.

I was there in Jan-Feb 2002, and never saw what you saw. I won't call you a liar, but a fireman bng led away by a cop or 2 (with or without handcuffs) would have been noticed, and definitely the word would have spread. And I never heard or saw any of that. And if true, no one more than me is happy to see those losers go.

ANYONE cashing in on a tragedy like 9/11 should have been hung by the steel you talk about, agreed. I took family members to the site and some arab dirtbag was charging $2.50 each for a dog and drink.

After I told him to shove it, I looked for a cop. And not a fan of the vendors selling WTC trinkets so close to the WTC. But, sorry to say, it's a fact of life, disgusting ther which way.

But when you lower your standards, you lower your quality of people. FD, PD, construction, Wall St., etc. Fact of life, and it sucks.

BTW, not one fireman could ever say a nasty thing about the construction guys there. You guys were great.

But if true, don't let a few bad apples ruin the bunch. But I never saw it, or would cover it up.

Firefighting is a dangerous profession. More dangerous when you are aggressive. If the union says "tap out" if you are not 100%, why not then?

And if a macho man like yourself doesn't "tap out" with a "bull$hit" injury, without a doubt the city will use that against you should something happen down the road, and it's related to this injury.

The city showed it's concern when it said " No Free Lunch" to anyone who worked 9/11. Not only FD, but PD, EMS, and any other city agency.

So if it upsets you someone taps out, too bad.

I'm sure everyone in your job is honest, and you don't cheat on your taxes.

Not me. I don't defend anybody who crosses a line. Epsecially with drugs or booze involved. And while not defending them, I'm sure you never got behind the wheel with a few. Lights, sirens or not, the results are the same when you kill someone. But YOU'RE perfect.

Yep the Bronx isn't burning anymore. Not like it did. But ignoramuses like you would close as many firehouses as possible because of your hatred for firemen. Crime is down too. Should we close precincts as well?

As for volly depts seng more work, thats a shame. The element from the city moved out here. I'm sure crime has risen in those busy areas as well. Why don't you move there and make it better? I'll pass.

I'll toast to the ones I knew. But leave the wives out of it. Experts predicted what you like to slam about the wives, and the FDNY dropped the ball. THAT is a FACT. Something you have yet to produce in any of your BS posts.

As for no more t-shirts. I couldn't agree more. But usually they are made as a memorial for a line of duty death, and raise money for the families.

And I knew one of the last 2 that did die line of duty. He was also a vollie at one time, and you couldnt hold a candle to him as a fireman, or a man.

You are a piece of $hit. Without a doubt. But you're a tough guy behind your keyboard.

Again, move on.

You're wrong, as usual. People usually make up crap, or change the subject, when they can't find the truth. You're doing that very well.

The word professional means nothing more than PAID. No matter how you want to turn it around. That is all it means.
While FDNY may be one of the best in the country if not the world
The Volley FD does the same thing for FREE. Same training, equal if not Better Equipment. Free get it.
You so called heros remember one thing.
The Volley FD. stood your watch while you were out for days at Ground ZERO. For free asshats. The city and FD comminish. thought the Volleys were good enough then.
My above comment does not apply to all members of FDNY. just those who think there so much better.

Heres a clue rubbers, a little water might help that fire go out.

03-09-2007, 10:16 AM
Lets also not forget, that the 1st fd in the USA was volunteer, and here in good ole 2007, the volunteer tradition still goes on.

It's not that people want a paid fd, it's that with the price of living in this country, most vol ff's are working 2, 3 + jobs and just can't devote enough daytime hours, so....waaalaaa, a paid fd.

doin it

Thats fine. While some on this site will disagree, most who take the job want to fight fire. And I'm certain the slow areas of NYC and other places need fire protection as well. Like yours. And I'm sure the residents appreciate it.

Yes, SI is slow. And it's busier companies are still slower than slow companies in other boroughs. Go up to St George by the ferry terminal, and its as crappy as some areas. So the bridge let the trash over. And they will pay for it.

And even "Rescue Me" made fun of S.I. You lost any validity using that to bolster a point. Unless you live there, there is no easy way to SI. You could live in Bay Ridge and still have to fight traffic over the VZ Bridge. So living anywhere else and getting sent to SI is punishment for the commute, not because its "slow".

ALAN JACOBY
