Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let me take this opportunity to express my anger with regards to the above listed Departments and thr related parades. I would hope that these comments would be accepted as from someone who spent a number of years in the Volunteer Fire Service, and on the same committees that were responsible for the debacles I have witnessed in the last few weeks. I am not trying to bash the service, nor am I asking for any sweeping "Newsday-like" changes.

In both instances, I have discovered that when these Departments have parades, they shut down the entire town - in BOTH cases cutting off -West travel, COMPLETELY, and for the ENTIRE parade. This is frustrating, discourteous, selfish and dangerous.

In both cases - every to west cross street was blocked - not one was open for the duration of every division - I was informed by rather surly Auxiliary wannabe cops that I should travel to 25A in Northports case, and to Jericho in Greenlawns case tonight.

Reasonable minds should see that this is ridiculous. People commuting, people picking up kids, going to the store, attending doctors appointments are all held hostage by a parade - something that should be fun.

All I am asking is for those in charge to consider stopping the line of march at each division for 2 or so minutes to allow some traffic to pass. Youve got every old timer on the planet at all of the intersections - pick two of three major ones and do the right thing. Exmaple - Pulaski, Clay Pitts and Cedar. Its not a big deal - I know because I've made it happen in the past.

This board has a gloried history in flaming posts. I am doing deep breathing exercises to maintain a respectful tone, so between the both of these Departments - do the right thing. God Forbid there is some emergency that develops into a fatality or other crisis because of this type of nonsense. Newsday will be the l of the problems.

You've got my vote!!!

Parades are planned way in advance. How about this, nitwit, pay attention to what going on in your Community, ther stay home for just a few hours or get a lawn chair and watch the parade.

There must be a really good reason why your an "EX" vollie. Most likey because to seem to be a big whinning dick!

This is probably the same IDIOT who would pull up to a road closure at an MVA and say "I've lived here 40 years, but this is the ONLY way I know to get home"

I'll try to respond to the morons who ther cannot read or are too stupid to comprehend. Sorry that I tried to keep it real - no wonder you guys are flushing the service down the crapper.

Number 1: "All times are GMT - 5 Hours" Thats Greenwich Mean Time for those of you who accidently respond to the 12 o'clock horn. That mean the post times are an hour behind. During Daylight Savings our local time is GMT -4, but nice try jackoff. Now go and bring mommy your clothes to wash.

Number 2: Unlike the lads in the volunteer fire service who never seem to be able to get beyond working in the local deli or slinging garbage cans to ensure they can stay local to use thr giant light bars on top of thr Dad's old station wagon, many of us commute - leaving early and returning late - I was trying to get home, azzhole. A lawn chair wasnt an option with a family to get home to. Perhaps if you werent in your parents basement playing video games and praying for a late night dumpster fire you'd understand. Also, There are no signs posted informing the community that they intend to close down the town...

It not the parade that I have a problem with - its not even closing of SOME roads - its the total shutting down of these communities that is ridiculous.

Number 3: No s*** that parades are planned way in advance, stupid. How about better planning and consideration of the communities you are all so quick to crow about serving if youve got all of that advance time.

Number 4: There was NO WAY to get home. As I mentioned, all West crossings in those mentioned towns were closed. In one case traveling back to Huntington was needed, and in the other - to Commack.

In any event, it was wrong.

Thinking about this guys gripe, made me think. Even in NYC, the largest parade in there, is St. Patricks Day . But there are always gaps in the line of march to permit traffic & cilvilians to cross.
It might be a good idea to think about occassional openings in the line. It certainly would not delay the line too much. Many smaller town FD parades don't last that long. This one is kinda long. What's the big deal? Just a thought.
