View Full Version : When will DOT finally finish Jones Beach bridge?
Ever since 1999, a temporary bridge has been in place. It's a never ending saga and most likely a gross waste of taxpayers money.
7.5 years later, and still not finished.
Something stinks - Newsday should investigate.

I'm willing to bet that when it is completed, they will somehow find something "wrong" with another bridge nearby. It's called job security and corruption.

NEWSDAY did a story; the bid was won by a non-union company and the Long Island unions who were working for the subcontractors have not cooperated and some have said that damage to important and sensitive equipment occured. Believe me. This is why no politicians have spoken out against the delay.

Similar situation happened out in Suffolk County several years ago on another bridge contract that a non-union company picked up. The Atlantic Beach Bridge took only 2 years but not sure whether it was union or non-union.
Atlantic Beach Bridge is interesting in that it is probably the only non-EZ Pass bridge or toll in the free world. None of the toll money goes to construction only salaries of bridge employees. When new construction is needed they float bonds to cover the cost!
