View Full Version : Ward System is a BAD idea!
Why in the world are the residents of Brookhaven forced to vote on an issue that is so absolutely ridiculous for the town? I have been trying to look at the good side of this, but am unable to find anything remotely close to a postitive point. I like the fact that I have a right to vote for or against the ENTIRE council. I like that they have to answer to ME! Council Districts are not the answer. Pay attention- the Town Board is divided into "Territories" now. Hennessey from Moriches, Esposito from Selden, Murphy from Miller Place, Gerrard from Port Jeff- in short- All of Brookhaven is represented from north to south, to to west and everything in between now! Let's keep it that way.
In a special election, such as this one- your one vote can very well make a difference! Get out there and Vote NO!!!! On January 22nd.

NFG is misguided about council districts. To get an idea of why they are right for Crookhaven one only look west to Hempstead and refer to the rationale of Judge Gleason in Goosby vs. TOH.
Oddly enough the example cited by NFG justifies Council districts. What if political power came to be concentrated in a particular geographic region? That would effectively disenfranchise the rest of the township. Why not codify a good thing? Support council districts on January 22nd and make sure every region has representation. It's Democracy stupid!

Talk about misguided- NFG are my initials (at l I had the guts to use an I.D.)! But- since you mentioned it- yes! Council Districts are NFG! If you want to disenfranchise the rest of the township- I suggest that you put forth credible candidates in your elections. I attended several Community "Meet the Candidates Nights" in my area. It was better than the old days at the End Comedy Club. Even the democractic candidates had to roll thr eyes when thr running mates spoke and acted like idiots. In good faith, I would not have been able to cast a vote for a single one of them. Bissonette wants so badly to be on the town board- yet- doesn't even take care of her own area. Her experience was only volunteering in a district other than her own- come on! The whistle blower? Do you think people took him seriously? The most credible candidate was John Rouse- a thug at best. Put forth credible candidates and you just might be able to get a seat or two in forthcoming elections!
Yes it is democracy- which is why I have a right to vote ABSOLUTLEY NO WAY!

Approving the Brookhaven Town distict council referendum is a vote for Good Goverment. Why shouldnt the Town residents get the same representation as they get on County, State and federal levels.
Brookhaven town is the only town in the USA with population as large as it does (430,000) that does not mnot have the ward system. As the town continues to grow more and more people need proper representation and we are NOT getting it under the current goold ol boy government. By the way Gene gerrard lives in Middle Island not Port Jeff
