Too bad the press didn't print the entire statement made by Natalie Maines..Yeah she doesnt like george bush, and is ashamed he's from texas but, they didnt tell you that she praised the men and women who were fighting in iraq and although they are not in favor of how things were done, we are at war and they support the troops.
The right wing media out to crucify any one who speaks out against this "reality news show" forgot that part of the statement.

IMAGINE
By Scott Smith
Imagine living in a country where citizens do not have the right to free speech and where the government attacks you both verbally and financially if you should speak out against it.
That country is America and the time is now.
The country music trio the Dixie Chicks are living this nightmare at present because of a statement that the lead singer made in London last week, ‘"Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." Even after Natalie Maines publicly apologized radio stations nationwide are now boycotting thr music. Though I do not agree with the backlash that the group has recved I understand that it is the fans’ right to respond how they see fit yet when the federal government steps in to pass a resolution on this matter it becomes an assault on our first amendment rights.
On March 18th ,2003 Beaufort State House Representative Catherine Cps sponsored a resolution that crosses the line into government censorship.
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, request that the Dixie Chicks apologize to the military families in the State of South Carolina and the United States for the unpatriotic and unnecessary comments made by thr lead singer before they begin thr United States tour on May 1, 2003, in Greenville, South Carolina, and request that they perform a free concert for troops and military families in South Carolina as an expression of thr sincerity.
This resolution passed the house on a 50-35 vote. I realize that the likelihood of this resolution bng enforced is unrealistic and that it is only a request from the South Carolina House of Representatives. It does show that federal government is stepping in to slowly try and chip away at our rights as citizens and that the general publics’ apathy is allowing this to happen. Free speech is fundamental for a democratic society. Only through open debate and even grievances with current administration can these issues be properly raised and resolved. When citizens are censored it places all decision-making in the hands of the authorities. Natalie Maines statement shows that she can play an active role in politics by exercising her rights to free speech.
Might I remind House Representative Catherine Cps of the first Amendment to the Bill of Rights.
I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
The current administrations stance of ther you are with us or against us holds true for the citizens of the United States. With passage of the Patriot Act and detention without representation our rights are slowly bng deteriorated by the current administration.
Thomas Jefferson said it best:
"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.”
Let your voice be heard and have this resolution repealed for its unjust stance on our first amendment rights. Representative Catherine Cps resolution can be found at www.scgop.com/press/release.asp?prid=42
