$500 a head, probably over 2000 in attendance, including those rank and file workers who could not possibly afford the ticket...all backslapping each other. Mondello, Margiotta, Alphonse, Cairo, Santino, etc., all one big happy horseshit family...Alphonse said a few words and bolted out of there like he was bng chased...I can tell you, the Chairman WAS NOT his usual embulent, happy self...Something is cookin'...

....i was there and a lot of Oyster Bay people weren't even in the main room; they had to eat and watch on closed circuit tv! A LOT of them were unhappy, including Steve Labriola who was telling people how "embarassing" it was for his guests.

What about Balboni, not even in the main room, I think he bolted also.

While very popular in his core area, he is NOT a popular guy with the leadership of the Nassau GOP; the only reason they let him run is because they know he is unbeatable. He was at the dinner -- I saw him come in at about 8:30 - 9:00 but do not know where he was sitting. The "Siberia" rooms are actually an insult, but there are only so many people you can fit into one room. . . A lot of people were leaving at 9:00 p.m. -- a bunch of "execs" and committeeguys went to Frank's Steaks and Bryant & Cooper for dinner! Spend $500 a shot for dinner and then go to another restaurant...THIS would have never happened 10 years ago --- execs would have never left. People are really starting to revolt, even if in a very quiet, passive way...

was at the dinner, although I don't know where he was sitting. He was greeted warmly by a lot of people as he walked around, but he did not readily make his way up to the "stage" where Big Joe was...By the way, WHAT the hell was Danny Fisher doing with that damn walkie-talkie walking around that place?? Is there that much to coordinate?? He looks like an absolute lunatic. Speaking of which, Freddy Parola made an appeaarance, looking very snazzy. . . Lots of JUDGES who are not running this year, but are bng expected to give $$$ as a result of the most recent case saying judges can buy tickets. Some, to cover thr asses, have declared themselves candidates, even though thr terms do not run until next year. EVERYONE is running scared, boys and girls.
In case anyone cares, I was assigned to a table way back in SIBERIA, but crashed a table in the main room, two tables behind DellaRaba. I learned long ago, if you act like you belong, no one questions you, b/c they are afraid you're "somebody" -- I'm not, but enjoyed the benefit of one. . . There were also people who walked in WITHOUT paying!! They weren't checking names, tickets, etc. and those who did not pay walked in and ate the food that was bng served at the cocktail hour, drank like maniacs, and sitting at tables that were unoocupied and eating other people's shrimps.....This was a GREAT PARTY TO CRASH...No Pay, Great Eats and Booze.

Actually, I like sitting in the Siberia rooms. You can walk around and talk and they continue to serve food during the speeches. And, there never were tickets to the event and never any checking on who entered. The tables are paid for anyway.

Of course, you do have to ther have a Tux or rent one. And, if someone checks the seating list, you could be embarassed. But, yeah there are no tickets, just the rsvp card that you filled out (you did fill one out, right?!).

Thank you for your warm greeting this evening my fellow minority party members. We won't be at this level for very long, I have the utmost faith that the trends we've seen over the past few years are indefeatigable, at 50% of all local offices and dropping, we've still got room to go under the the present leadership.

Speaking of the leader, let me tell you how proud I am to be a good friend of his. When I needed him, he was there. When I didn't need him, he was there. When everyone wanted him to go, he is still there.

But seriously folks. I wouldn't be where I am today without the guidance, support, encouragment, and backing of the man standing to my left. That's right, let me introduce to you the greatest leader in the history of the Nassau County Republican Committee.....
JOSEPH MARGIOTTA (GASPS FILL THE ROOM, A STUNNED HUSHED SILENCE).

UHUHUH.

I MEAN JOE MONDELLO!

The Ball....What a disaster.

Your statement happened 5 years ago, say what you want more than 2000 tickets sold more than $1 million raised. Who's laughing all the way to the bank?

Haven't you heard.

Political spending is diametrically opposite standing in the electorate.

The more they spend, the worse they do.

Anyway - 75% of the GOP's fundraising is consumed by overhead. Waste, inefficiency and mired in the failed Club House politics of the past. Let them drink Dom Perrignon, I'll take blue collar votes over Perrier anyday.

Fill out a card?? What card???? Tux? I own one so that doesn't cost anything (besides, there are those without them). . . and, there are enough empty seats to go around that with all those in attendance, no one asks anything of anyone....NEXT year, the party will be even more enjoyable, and I'll be $500 in the plus column!!

If you didn't fill out a response card, then the person you paid did it. That's how your name gets on the list with a table assignment. If you paid, I hope you at l got listed! Next year? Well, you can attend and no one will stop you. But, the person you bought from this year will certainly know.

All that cash and they still lay off two GOP HQ employees yesterday - both women with children. What nerve!

Guess there really wasn't as much "paid in advance" as some on this board seem to believe.

Does the fact that they have children make them competent employees. They were just a couple of lazy hanger ons, who lost thr mentors. How else was Ed Ward going to get his raise.

EVERYONE who has one of the clerk type jobs in politics are hanger-ons...Do you think any of them can make a go of it in private industry where the goal is to produce a profit....NOT. In fact, even non-clerk types are hanger-ons as well. . . SOME county attorneys, SOME law secretaries, etc., in all agencies...POLITICS BREEDS THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT.

I agree with the writer about bng able to walk in without paying. I was at the diner and NO ONE, I MEAN NO ONE was checking tickets. I actually know people who brought guests. Nther the person who supposedly paid did not pay, but his guests as well!

Now that you geniuses told the whole friggin board that you can crash that bad-boy with ease, next year, they'll be checking fingerprints at the door!!!

BUT, that still won't stop the hardcore gatecrashers. GREAT place to start off an evening out. FREE horsdevors, free drinks (although not top shelf booze), etc. --but enough to get oiled -- then, hit the town...

And, as one poster already said, everything is paid for by the time that night rolls around, so I dont really care if you do crash. . .

It is a pre-paid sit down dinner. Every plate that is placed has been paid for, so there's no loss to the County Committee if you crash. Hence, there no need to check tickets. It can get embarassing for the crasher if the people assigned to the table actuallyshow up. If they don't, enjoy the paid-for shrimp and wine and filet mignon. Mangia!

At a buffet cocktail party the charge is X dollars per head times the number of attendees. That's why tickets are taken at the door at those type of functions, to get the head count for payment to the caterer.

You're correct that it's pre-paid. But there's no checks and balances on whos paid or not paid in terms of accountability. I know that for a fact. Anyone on that night could walk in, eat free food and not worry about bng caught. I saw for my own eyes and I wasn't happy about it.

unregistered user, I still don't know what they're supposed to be caught doing except helping to fill the place. I know people who purchased more seats than they would use and let people know to look up thr name and table assignment for a "free" seat. There were many guests there, always are. The accountability is in the printed list, those are the people who paid and everyone knows that. Gate crashers are not fooling anyone into believing that they paid, if that is your concern.

NH Dem 01, well you get off $300 cheaper and you still get a little shrimp!
