Why is he allowing Denenberg to run?
Why is he allowing Denenberg to run?
Another loser
1) Jay wouldn't let him. Doesn't want to risk his seat in the Leg going GOP.
2) DCCC wouldn't give him money.
Democratic leaders are morons and cowards too scared to take on tough races and too stupid to realize they can actually win. Remember, JJ wanted to cross-endorse Dillon because he was so unbeatable. Guess Pete King is just as unbeatable as Dillon was, huh.

King can't be beaten. There's a good reason he's the only Republican representing Long Island. The district is affluent and has very few minority and Jewish voters. That adds up to solid Republican. National Democrats are smart enough not to pump in big money just to reduce King's victory margin.

Wow. That is one of the most ignorant comments I have ever read on here. So you are saying that only when minorities and Jews are in an election district do Democrats stand a chance? Do you realize Jews make up approx. 2% of the U.S. population? How could this small a voting block account for all the democratic victories around the country that occur every November let alone Nassau County? And sorry, black and other racial minorities don't do it either.
Affluent areas vote Republican? Do you realize the areas like Wantagh, Levittown, Copaigue and Lindenhurst all fall under King's district? Those are affluent area?
I happen to be white and of German descent and am Catholic.
Ignorant Republicans always assume that Democratic voters are Jewish or minorities just proving their inherent racism.

Is that why Clinton and Gore won the district?
Why is he allowing Denenberg to run?
Denenbergs turn. Mejias cannot win. Too immature. Also, Denenberg won an internal power struggle for the seat. Smart politics

Sounds good to me. :D

Yup, no Jews in Merrick...or Long Beach...or Plainview...or Jericho...or Syosset. Actually, King's district is more Jewish than McCarthy's or Israel's...and certainly more than Bishop's.
And no minorities in Farmingdale or Bethpage or Amityville, right
The rich, white, non-Jewish towns are just the ones up on the North Shore of Nassau...Old Brookville, Lattingtown, Oyster Bay, Bayville, etc (and remember, Glen Cove's up there too)...you're talking maybe 20% of the district tops.
Once again, Denis Dillon was considered absolutely unbeatable...anyone who suggested at this time last year that he would actually lose would have been laughed at (including by the Democratic chairman himself, who wanted to cross-endorse him).
Democrats always gave Dillon a freebie. They'd put up sacrificial lambs to run non-campaigns against him, then point to those results to show that he couldn't be beaten...kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Then, THE VERY FIRST SOMEONE RAN REAL CAMPAIGN AGAINST HIM, HE LOST (didn't even matter that it was a carpetbagger from Philly who moved to town the day she became a candidate)!
Similarly, nobody's run a real campaign against Pete King yet. Let's see what happens when someone actually does.

Some facts: King's district 3 is 87% white. Israel's district 2 is 72%, McCarthy's 4 62%, Ackerman's 5 44% white. Merrick, Long Beach, Plainview, Jericho and Syosset are not completely within King's district. The more heavily Jewish and Democratic areas of Plainview, Jericho, Syosset and Woodbury are represented by Israel. Newsday's red/blue map of the Dillon/Rice race showed Dillon winning King's district. Only a national Democratic tsunami could knock King out. King's tough-on-terror anti-immigrant positions are in line with the district.
King has had plenty of rich folks throw tons of money at him to defeat him. He's still here. I doubt a convicted forger will have any more luck.
Levittown is full of miscreants, cretins and other assorted sex offenders, I dont see King having a chance at all.

The third district was gerrymandered in 2002 order to give McCarthy and Israel safer districts by including the heavily minority areas (Hempstead, Uniondale, Roosevelt, Freeport in the 4th and North Amityville, Wyandanch, Brentwood, CI in the 2nd) as well as the heavily Jewish areas (Plainview, Dix Hills Commack in the 2nd and the Five Towns in the 4th) in their home districts. Consequentially King's 3rd district is heavily republican, largely middle and upper middle class, and is mostly Irish and Italian Catholic. Meanwhile both McCarthy and Israel represent safe democratic districts. Remember that in 2002 Steve Israel was worrried about facing a resurgent Rick Lazio. Meanwhile Carolyn McCarthy wanted to exclude the homes of Senators Balboni and Fuschillo from the 4th, in order to ensure a safe seat. The result? A heavily republican third district where republican candidates, particularly someone as powerful as King do very well.

Yikes!
The Irish make up less that 17% of the district and Clinton and Gore won by healthy margins. The district is republican leaning but not heavily republican and republicans have been losing voters every year.
Why is he allowing Denenberg to run?
Now that Denenberg has withdrawn, I think there's a very good chance that Mejias will be back in the race. Considering some of King's stances with respect to immigration, I think hispanic organizations and churches will be throwing money at mejias, along with other progressive organization. Mejias is also good fundraiser, better than Denenberg. I think he'll be just fine against King.
