View Full Version : Nassau-Suffolk one of the lowest?
I just came upon some statistics, the Nassau-Suffolk County areas were rated the lowest crime areas out of the 100 largest metro areas.
Can this be true? I had though Long Island was one of the fastest growing, with the gang problems and such.
Does anyone have other data on this?

There is also the lowering of criminal charges and the combining of charges to give a false picture. It is all smoke and mirrors. I do not think that we have the crime problems of Detroit, but we are not better off than anyone else in terms of crimes.
If, for example (based on a real situation), someone breaks in to a Walmart and steals six rifles - you have six felonies. When the DA pleas them down to one misdemeanor, that is the number used for the statistics.
One misdemeanor = six felonies (in this instance.) Happens every day, all day.

It still seems odd that we're ranked so low. But I guess numbers can only tell part of the story, as you pointed out.
