LEVY'S OUTRAGE AT NEWSDAY

[/Levy's upset with coverage

[/Newsday's bias on coverage of illegal aliens shows once more in it's reporting on my effort to seek federal reimbursement for costs incurred by local governments dealing with the undocumented ["Panel tackles immigration," News, March 7].
On March 6, along with Danbury, Conn., Mayor Marc Boughton, I organized a meeting of 60 county executives and mayors from 26 states to get the federal government to pay the locals for having to pick up the cost in the area of health care, prisons, schools and overcrowded housing.

Coverage of this landmark event was relegated to a few paragraphs on page A23.

On the other hand, Newsday published a Page A4 article filled with quotes from out of the mainstream, pro-illegal immigrant attorneys once again trying to demonize those seeking to secure our borders as being hate mongers.

Never once did Newsday express any interest in asking questions about our underlying complaint that we pay $10.5 million to incarcerate the undocumented and another $6.5 million providing unreimbursed health care.

Some things never change.

Don't be bitter, He is DEFINITLY NOT the working mans friend.
BUT ON THIS ISSUE HE IS RIGHT, AND WATCH, IT JUST MAY BE THE ISSUE THAT PUSHES HIM THROUGH AN EASY RE-ELECTION AND BEYOND.

Dont be so sure about an easy re-election, in a similar situation everyone thought Brokeback was supposed to win too !

GOP Backbone-Where ?
03-18-2006, 10:58 AM
Levy took this issue and ran with it to the dismay of many Republicans.
He's bashing them with an issue they should have stood for. Illegal aliens contribute towards crime, gangs, higher property taxes, higher school taxes, more costly government services etc.
Their employers don't pay taxes on them which only puts competitors who do pay taxes at a disadvantage in the marketplace.
If the GOP had a backbone and stood up to the radicals at Newsday and the ACLU zealots who gladly rip apart neighborhoods maybe the Repubs would have won at least some elections.
Instead the Republicans on Long Island either make money from illegals in some way "just like the Dems" and/or they are afraid of the leftists smear campaign stemming from Newsday and other left wing media types who use fraudulent racism charges to stir up trouble and attain power.

Simply put, What Steve Levy is doing is what the Republicans should have done long ago.

He is publically complaining of the 10.5 mil it cost last year to incarcerate the undocumented, and seeking money for his general fund from the state and the feds, while simultaneously he is plotting to give them more plasma TVs and juice machines. This is the future of Corrections?

I read recently that a site is being built so the day day workers in South Hampton won't have to stand outside the 7-11 anymore. I'd say its a safe bet that they're illegals.

Great job Levy...I guess you were full of crap on that one too.

News Flash - Steve Levy to head local chapter of the Minute Men!

The use of hiring halls is an issue that has been debated nationwide. Over sixty communities have adopted their use, in an effort to discourage loitering, littering, illegal solicitation, etc.

Large groups of foreigners undeniably violate one’s sense of personal safety. Whether that threat is real or imaginary is entirely irrelevant; intuitively we feel threatened for very real biological reason, and as a result one’s sense of any aesthetic value is highly depreciated.

Hiring halls tend to make a lot of sense. The difficulty arises in terms of how they are funded. It is illegal for even non profit or advocacy groups to encourage illegal activity, or aid in hiring. Some municipalities are circumventing such laws, in the interests of appeasing special interest groups, and preserving aesthetic quality or property values. But really who should pay for these things? Should Americans be taxed nationwide, or federally, because the people of Southampton want to continue the use of their inexpensive and illegal landscapers? Should the County taxpayer or even the local taxpayer be required to pay while simultaneously abetting in illegal activity?

Since the very purpose and intention of such halls is to attract the illegal, and aid in hiring, then I would suggest that the INS should be required to provide regular screening. If not these halls should be permanently closed just as law enforcement would close any other building that houses illegal activity. If in your community you fail to convince others of the necessity of such devices, then there is still much that the public can do – such as actively photographing, or video taping, people as they enter and leave, their activity, their vehicles and their license plates, etc. Such measures have proven to be quite effective.
