Newsday January 21, 2003. Article by Valerie Burgher "Postal Shifts Balance of Power" and Editorial by R. J Keating. Interesting comparison. Burgher says Postal has reduced committees to 11 where Tonna had 15. Tonna had 15 committees led by those legislators "who supported me who were interested in different issues." Clearly, Tonna's objective was to please those around him and let them do what "interests" them at the taxpayers expense. Keating says with "no party protecting the taxpayers as the first order of business come problems in government." Keating says that through coaltion government "Republicans surrender whatever commitment to low taxes, limited government and private property they might have had. When such priciples are abandoned, goverming tends to degrade..." The GOP in Huntington put Tonna (a guy off the street who happened to be friends with local leaders at the time) ahead of local loyalists who would have done a much better job and remained faithful. Huntington GOP should make it a top priority this year to bury Tonna and Petrone. Lets move to the conservative side and get some people in elected office who won't run our government like a love-fest side show.
