View Full Version : When Did Tom Suozzi "Jump the Shark"
Interrogatory
08-29-2004, 06:13 PM
When was it that the promising career of Thomas R. Suozzi, turn from good to bad, was it:
1) When he decided to back the State Assembly campaign of a liberal criminal defense attorney who defended a terrorist in a bid against a grandfatherly incumbent Democrat?
2) When he first hired all of those "City People" (i.e. Goodman, Botwin, Klein) to "run" his government?
3) Karen Asip's dress code?
4) The mismanagement and alleged misappropriation of funds in the Commerce vertical by Peter Sylver and Pals?
5) The Peter Sylver sexual assault scandal?
6) His threat to Peter Schmitt, "I'm gonna Get you."
7) FixAlbany. Com, his threat to Albany, "I'm gonna get you."
The DWI arrests of a prominent member of his transition team, as well as key staffers?
9) Hiring a disbarred attorney as Legislative Liaison, and then Clerk of the Legislature?
10) The revelation that Robert Asti was a securities felon?
11) The Sylver Plea.
13) The Campanelli shakedown scandal?
14) The final admission of Craig Love, the Computer Tzar, that he did not know a damned thing about computers, and was unfit for his position?
15) The revelation that Craig Love was domiciled in a County Office Building?
16) The failed Cunningham for Suffolk County Executive bid,(i.e. Suozzi's failure to capture Suffolk as well)
17) The termination of Dave Feinberg?
1 Jay Jacobs now infamous and unfortunate battle with a poster on LI Politics.Com which received press coverage in Newsday?
Or Did Suozzi turn bad
19) Sometime during his junior year at Chaminade?
11) during the first trimester in his mother's womb?

maybe it was when he was a child. Growing up in a wealthy name family and knowing it. The snotty, obnoxious "prince" of the Glen Cove Suozzi's. Times haven't changed...he is still a rude, obnoxious ass.
Whether he wins or loses his battles, he is still a loser with a lot of the people that got to know him well over the past 3 1/2 years.
All of the above

All of the above will catch up with his attitude.

Don't forget to add all the pending lawsuits that have been filed in cour over the past year that total over $140 million against the County.

Hmmmm.... The legendary "Horse of a Different Colour Campaign..." That is a defensible jump the shark moment ........ Forgot that one.
But for me, Suozzi waged brilliant and successful camaigns against Di Napoli and Bent.... I kind of like the Benrubi DWI bust during the transition as a defining downward moment, the first hint that 1 West Street was no "Camelot," but just another "silly place," as in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Are we forgetting that Tom made one of his worst appointments to one of the most important jobs in the county? His appointment of Jim Lawrence as Police Commissioner(another NYC hack) is an embarassment to the department. He has absolutley no leadership skills, is always away somewhere(Florida, conventions, etc.) and has an intelligence level of a fifth grader. The entire upper command staff of the department has lost all faith in him and many are talking openly about retiring early as the department sinks to new lows.Frustration abounds at all of the top ranks as well as the rank and file. The man is incompetent and everyone knows it.He has been there over two years and still has no plan or direction for a department that accounts for one quarter of the county budget! Some of the very best and brightest people in the Police Department will be leaving before their time so as not to deal with his incompetence.

Tom Suozzi jumped the shark when he fired Tom Williams. That began the slide down for the big suozzola. The peak of the poll numbers....the start of the big slide.

jumping the shark- It happened when Suozzi continued to defend Peter Sylver while being fully aware that he was accused of sexual assault and sexual harassment. His huge ego got in the way of his admitting that he misjudged Sylver's character and made a mistake.
Jumping the shark- Suozzi thought that the open secret of the sexual harassment/assault accusation would remain buried by the confidentiality agreement. Nothing stays buried in politics. It all comes out- and with Peter Schmit controlling it- it came out slowly and sensationally.

You are either disingenuous or completely misinformed. Suozzi will never "save" the County from anything, because saving the County is not his goal. His goal is to get out of here as quickly as possible. In fact during his first month in office, at several interviews Suozzi freely disclosed to potential County employees that he was to be "out of here" very soon, and that he planned to take all of his "team players" with him. Of course, as part of his plan he made decisions based upon how much each decision would help him in his quest for higher office, even where he was hurting, and continues to hurt, the County. The 133 New York City hires, and Lorna Goodman, are prime examples. He brought these people in, not because they are good for the County, but because they can help him in his quest for higher office. But they are REALLY doing damage to the County. He began selling out Nassau Taxpayers the day he took office. Just look at the 1.2 million in HUD monies which he paid to his friends like Crowe Deegan et al, which the Federal Government has now ordered the County to repay. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

If Suozzi is the best this County can hope for as CE than its time to turn the County over to the State and hope that with that threat looming leaders will emerge such as Tom DiNapoli and Tom Williams. Suozzi never hid the fact that his being "elected" CE was a stepping stone. If anything, he boasted about it. If he wants to go than I say let him go.But if he thinks that his father can buy him Albany and Washington as easily as he bought him this County, I would encourage his father to put his money away. He doesn't have enough money to buy the governorship nor the presidency. Suozzi will leave Nassau with a proven track record of corruption, mismanagement, illegal practices and poor judgement. History has proven that poor character and poor judgement have ruined many a political career. He might want to think of alternative career paths such as acting and driving a cab........

Unfortunately, Suozzi will be re-elected, thanks to Dillon selling out taxpayers once again. If Dillon were a real DA, as opposed to a pure political hack, Suozzi would have been indicted for the HUD scandal. But Dillon has refused to investigate. Rumor has it that Dillon was repeatedly seen walking around 1 West for "meetings" there. Even worse, Dillon plans to run for re-election and was recently seen having lunch with Gary DeLaraba, courting PBA money for his "campaign."

How about the legendary battle royale between El Campion Tomas "De Los Tantrums Muy Gigante" Suozzi versus "Smokin' Joe" Scannell. To bad the Ref Kevan "I can't Spell My own First Name" Abrahams had to break up the bout. This was a true jump the shark moment for the featherweight champion.
