Newsday
January 20, 2003
POWER LUNCH of the week: At Sempre Vivolo in Hauppauge, where builder Ron Parr, real estate investor Jimmy Tsunis and Supervisors Pat Vecchio of Smithtown and Pete McGowan of Islip holed up at an out-of-the-way table. Under discussion: the vacuum being left by Bob Gaffney's decision not to run for another term as Suffolk County executive. Don't be surprised if McGowan steps out of the background to enter a wide-open field. .

What was Vecchio doing there? where does he fit in this whole thing.
I think floor controll at the convention is based on the last gube vote so it probably goes like this:
Brookhaven
Islip
Huntington
Smithtown
Babylon
etc

hey busboy,
you've put that mcgowan message on a few sites,
listen mcgowan works behind scenes for democrats and thats a fact, he's also responsibile for the breakdown of the once powerful islip republican machine, it will be a sorry day if he becomes county leader or exec.
he fights taxes by starving his own employees
not my pick for anything

You sound like a bitter Gaffney guy.( McGowan is about as much a democrat as Hillary is a Republican. If only all the elected officials cared about the taxpayer as much him we would be in great shape, instead of a great mess.Supervisor McGowan keep us proud that there is hope in elected officials.) ps- Don't worry there is work out in the private sector, just no free rides. The only problemout there is your boss may want you to account for your work.:

Vecchio's presence - Think about it. Who did Gaffney beat in 92 in a primary. Vecchio. Vecchio also feuded with Appolaro for generations (Appolaro's dad was former Smithown Republican was Vecchio was a democrat). He is no good and that's why he's been stuck as town leader for 20+ years.

"keep us proud of elected officials" ? Give me a break- The McGowen machine has consistantly been a disgrace to Democracy- If there is even a hint of dissension a meeting is cancled- and the previous poster is correct- these "so called" tax reductions are on the backs of Town workers and residents- I can reduce taxes as well - Just stop providing services and thats that- And as far as your opinion that these workers are so highly paid- look at their paychecks- barely over minimum wage- no exaggeration- and the contract they have calls for cola raises while this "wonderful" public servant gives himself and his cronies hefty raises year after year- all the while riding around in his "town car". Doesnt it make you wonder why there is never any dissension on the town board- I mean come on- Someone has to disagree with King Pete- well they probably do- but would never dare go against him- not because he is such a great leader- but because he will use all of his cronies to punish anyone who goes against him- I would like to compare the voting record of the Islip Town board with the old politburo of the Soviet Union- I am sure it is very similar- Yeah - this is the guy we want- Real upstanding and a true example of whats good in government- GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! Maybe he could go to Iraq after the war and slide right in- That is more his style-

Vinnyboom is right. Most of the rank and file republicans dont like McGowan. They are just affraid to stand up against him, because if you do and fail, you will be ruined politically. I would love to see someone run against him in a primary, and whoever did would have me and many other people working very hard for him. The sooner McGowan is gone the better for the real Republicans in Islip.

The main reason she would not primary Pete is she can't win.She was a staunch GAFFNEY ally and that and 10 cents does nothing for her. She is in the only area in Islip where she can win, any where else in Islip town and she loses. No political clout,no allies means no chance. As always don't say I didn't tell ya.

That is the only way she runs for CE or SUPERVISOR. Otherwise she has no lines. PS. All being said she will run for legislator.
