View Full Version : Guardino Defection Another Straw

The Guardino defection (ie taking the post at Hofstra) is yet another (and the most serious) straw breaking the back of the Nassau GOP.

Guardino, one of Mondello's closest confidants, is shocking the GOP establishment today by leaving his post as Supervisor of GOP stronghold Hempstead. Contrary to Democratic musings, this is not one of a long line of GOP musical chairs, as this one took all of the top Republicans by surprise. Guradino is obviously looking out to feather his own nest, and is unconcerned at what effects his actions would have on the party as a whole, esp. in this Town election year.

Mondello is simply unable to control his own party, even someone as close as Guardino.

He has to go. Now. Waiting any longer will only continue the downward spiral. This is long past crisis proportions.

Joe Cairo, Dean Skelos, Governor Pataki, are you listening?????

The time to act is NOW. Not next year. Not after the national GOP convention. Not after losing another big defeat. NOW. It is your duty and your responsibility.

The entire GOP in Nassau County is depending on you.

The posting by Devastated is incorrect. The people "in the know" have been expecting Guardino's departure for some time. In fact, there are many who have been trying to get him out for months because nothing was getting done. It may appear that Guardino was running the Town well but scratch beneath the surface and there were many disgruntled people, both employees and people who do business with the Town.
To try to use this situation to show that Mondello is an ineffective leader is also wrong. The move has all the earmarks of a well-orchestrated Mondello plan, and actually shows that Joe M. is a few moves ahead of you on the chess board. Don't forget, no one is closer to Hofstra than Joe M. Its no coincidence that Guardino is moving to a job at Hofstra.

Well, I suggest you write to your state legislators and urge them to change the law that applies to municipalities through the state.

Some merit does exist to the idea that voters should have a special election. Just as merit exists in the idea that such non-participatory elections waste taxpayer resources.

If your complaint is that the GOP majority on the Board will blindly follow the suggestion of one person who doesn't even reside in the town, then I suggest you lodge your complaint in a variety of ways with your town legislator.

oh please

If the town's voters continue to re-elect legislators who supposedly pay more heed to the Party Chairman than to their constitutents, then the voters must be satisfied in business as usual.

I call this democracy (actually it's representative republicanism). It seems that some in the "enlightened minority" simply have no respect for the will of the people.
