QUESTION...

NY CITY ELECTED OFFICIALS COMPLAIN THEY DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO RUN THEIR SCHOOL SYSTEM AND WANT MORE FROM THE STATE...?
(OR PAY THEIR POLICE, FIRE, TEACHER,SANITATION ETC...)

QUESTION...?
WHY DOES A HOME SELLING FOR $500,000 ON LONG ISLAND HAVE PROPERTY TAXES OF $8,000 to $9,000,

WHILE THE NY CITY (STATAN ISLAND) HOME OF EQUAL SELLING PRICE/VALUE HAS TAXES OF UNDER $2,000.

its called population! more people more tax revenue-less people less revenue. and lets remember one thing the city of new york is the economic engine for the entire state. Tax revenue produced by this city is a least 60% of the entire states economy. Upstate and the surrounding suburbs do not contribute to the city whatsoever.

Every one in this state should want nyc schools to be the best then can be. The children growing up in the city today will be the same people that supply most of the state with its revenue. why wouldn't you want them to be better prepared?

Upstate and Long Island does contribute a lot to the NYC economy!! If their jobs move out of NYC, the place will fold. Workers going into the city pay tolls, the MTA, income taxes, and sales taxes. They also pay fines to NYC as well as other municipal surcharges, depending on the type of work they do there.

you must be kidding! upstate and for sure long island does nothing to contribute to the city of ny. by the way do you know where most of the toll money from the mta goes??? check out the lirr or the ny thruway. over 100k people moved to staten island alone in the last 10 yrs and one of the worst traffic problems in the tri state area.

your other point is commuters pay fines in the city and sales tax. well so do I if i go to jones beach.

the whole reason nassau was created was to house a workforce. nassau and suffolk only offer minimal products such as small amounts of bio tech and wines....

the city of ny has 8 times the amount of people then nassau/suffolk. if you dont like the way things are going why dont you create some work for your population.

who's you daddy????

New York City residents pay a city income tax, which offsets the real estate tax. Thats why property taxes are lower.

You got to be kidding?
NYC is dependent upon LI TAXES to subsidize there SOCIALIST programs!!
It is a fact that LI(Nassau & Suffolk) sends more money to Albany then it gets back.
It goes to upstate & NYC
