On July 6, 1854, in Jackson, Mich., the Republican Party formally organized itself by holding its first convention. A little over 150 years later and for the first time in those 150 years, the Grand Old Party will convene in New York.

Who has accomplished this mighty deed? Pres. Teddy Roosevelt from Oyster Bay didn't bring the GOP legions to New York during his presidency. Nor did Locust Valley's Leonard Wood Hall who served as Chairman of the Republican National Committee in the 1950's.

Nope. It took New York National Committeeperson and Nassau County Republican Committee Chairperson

JOSEPH MONDELLO

to accomplish something that all before him had failed to do.

The GOP is coming to NY:

1) becasue of 9/11;
2) because it is BUSH'S convention, not mondello's;
3) b/c by the time the convention convenes Bush is banking on the fact that he will have made some inroads in the "war on terrorism" and will have a favorable public opinion of what he did, and what better place to ballyhoo that several miles from "Ground Zero";
4) b/c he can parade all the 9-11 heros in front of the entire world 24/7 right from NYC.

GOP politics is NOT all about mondello, even though he and the rest of his "sicko-phants" would like you to believe.

Mondello will stick around, though, to play it up as much as he can and take as much credit as he can for bringing the GOP to NY!!!

9-11 turned Rudy Giuliani into a mayor with a very slipping public approval rating into a world-class superstar --rightly or wrongly--

Another Joe M. once coveted the prize of National Committeeman. He got something else -- courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer.

This Joe M., based on his hard work as leader of the state's pre-eminent county committee, earned the right to represent the New York GOP on the national level.

Say what you will. When the RNC meets later this month, our National Committeeman will lead the charge to bring New York its long overdue honor of hosting the convention that will propel our President, George Walker Bush, to his second term.

Some naysayers lament that our National Committeeman's presence is merely coincident to the selection of New York.

Perhaps, the fellow driving the getaway car and not the bank robber is the real brains behind the operation.

I say to the unbelievers. Put aside your petty gripes, give honor and credit to where it's due -- the leadership of Chairman and National Committeeman Joseph Mondello.

Come on, Mondello is a great leader, no doubt about it, but stop the ass kissing already...It is totally unbecoming grown self-thinking persons...You are all "self-thinkers", aren't you.
