Volunteering

Can anyone give me any advice on how to get involved with the republic party? I called the party headquarters in Nassau County once, but a lady gave me a list of numbers to call, which I assume were their home numbers. I read on the Democratic board that numerous people are having problems contacting people to volunteer. I hope that's not true. Well, it will be greatly appreciated if anyone can help me out.

Contact Repub HQ (3345800) and ask to have the local or town leader of your area contact you.

I am sure that you will get a prompt call back.

They need the help.

Of course, you can always contact an elected official or candidate that you like directly to get involved in their campaign.

The quickest way to get involved in politics is to call HQ and tell them you have money to give them. You'll get their atention!!
Realistically, the poster above gave you the correct answer. I had a difficult time getting involved in my local gop committee -- it is almost like they are afraid you are going to take something away from them -- so, this year, with everyone up for election, I would go right to the source; find a candidate in your area you like and volunteer on that campaign; that will lead you to people in your area who will then recognize you, you'll join the local club, and in short order, YOU'll BE BROKE, b/c all they'll do is ASK FOR MONEY!!
Go get involved in a CHARITY where your money will actually do something to help people...Ronald McDonald House; the Interfaith Nutritional Network, etc. . .

just check your telepone book and look up the repbulican club in your area and call the contact person I am sure that they will give you the right advice - maybe go down to a meeting and tell them you are interested in volunteering - good luck

Call Rep HQ in Westbery or contact a republican public official from your area tell them where you live and ask them who the leader is for that area and that persons phone number. Then call the leader directly they will be happy to hear from you.

They will take any help you can give, we have plenty of people who help our club that give no money just time and we are more than happy to get the help.

Those recommending you call the local GOP HQ out of the phone book are crackpots - there are no such listings that connect to real political action.

And calling Westbury????? Well, these calls are a sideshow to them. You will NEVER hear from anybody.

The one poster who said to tell them you have money to contribute hit the nail on the head.

Otherwise, if you want real political action, if you want something done right, do it yourself and call Bruce Bent to help accomplish meaningful change in the organizational structure and practices of the failed machine of the past!

I would never trust Bruce Bent again. I offered my assistance many times to him and it was not accepted. I worked my butt off trying to make sure he wins and he did nothing. Why he waited until after labor day to get started I will never know. Bloomburg in the city did it right, he established himself early and positively. People had already make up their minds by the end of June. In Nassau they did not even know who the candidate was. They thought it was between Suozzi or Dinapoli. It was no wonder he lost.

When he gave up, I am not sure when, and decided not to spend his millions. He lost the race for all of us. If I was to run for office besides what I could raise I would be expected to contribute at least 10K of my own income thats about 3% of my net worth. Just think what 3% of his would be 8 million. So when he says he spent enough he is full of it. He said he would spend whatever it took, I believe at least 3 million, I think maybe he spent one. He should of just stayed home and let someone else run who was more deserving.

Mr. Bent you were our hope and you let all of the little people in the party down big time. Hell, if I knew you were going to through the race perhaps I could have at least stayed neutral and saved my own butt.


with regard to assisting the party, please do so call Republican HQ or an elected official or tell us what area you are from and we will try and get you the number of the local leader.

I know the story of Bent calling a-then Supreme Court candidate the morning after a fundraiser at Bent's house and accusing him of "accidentally" taking Bent's wife's fur coat! And, yes, he was serious.

Thanks for all the advice. I live in Freeport, so if anyone can send me the names of people I should get in contact with that would be great. But I will also try to contact someone from headquarters as well.
