It's a done deal. 5 more exempt "audit managers" for Howwy, making the total 20 plus exempt positions in his office. Parola had less than 10.
Oh, and Howie just got his new Crown Vic, compliments of teh Police Department budget, with his shiny "comptroller" plate onthe back so everyone knows how importatnt he is.
Lastly, Howies cofiscated parking spots in his lot from the taxpayers and reserved them for the press.
Yes, where is Newsday on these issues, as well as his fat raise. This guy is watching the store. Looks like he is looting it out!!!
Celeste, this is page 5 material!!!!
Audits???

Why is Howie still doing audits?? They are useless!! He cannot get any of his suggestions implemented, especially in the police dept. You still have Advanced Medical Tech's doing BILLING! They could be replaced any second by much lower paid employees but the police dept needs them there...WHY?

what is an advanced medical tech and what kind of billing are we talking about? What are the credentials and qualifications of an advanced medical billing tech, and if the job involves medical billing, doesn't it make sense to hire people who understand ICD-9 and CPT Coding issues, as well as the applicability of fee schedules, when preparing medical billing correspondence? But, I don't know, you're the one making a stink about it. If Howie and his morons can't answer these questions then they better shut their stupid traps and maybe hire a few less politically connected, but technically incompetent auditors. Then maybe folks would listen to his banalities.
An AMT (advanced medical tech) is an ambulance driver. He is more highly qualified than an EMT (emerg med tech) ..which is what most fire depts have. When you have a heart attack you want an amt to show up. They have more training. They intubate, etc. Some county employess hired to be AMTs do billing. They bill you for your ride in an ambulance. Your insurance pays most of it. Whatever is left you pay. The county hires a firm to collect. The AMTs doing billing assist this firm that collects. They make 70 grand a year at top pay! (11 years) and NEVER have to make a life or death decision...

You have clarified the issue, but you still need to focus. I get your point, an entry point medical code specialist is someone who could be paid $25K - $45K, depending upon on credentials, training, and background (experience with HCFA forms, ICD-9 coding, CPT codes, No Fault/WC benefits and the like).
However, you need to ask yourself, are the AMTs you complain about injured workers eligible for 207-c disability payments. Would the AMTs who are engaged in medical billing be individuals on so called "light duty" who would be out on 207-c benefits, in which case they would be receiving full pay and not doing any work at all for the county? And are the employees which you complain about are they older unionized employees? The County needs to look closely at its return to work polices, and its deployment of individuals to do tasks who might otherwise be eligible to sit on their butts. The problem historically with the Comptroller's Office (Parola and Weitzman), is that the comptrollers generally take an accusatory tone with departments, and do not try to understand why people do what they do.

Both are wasting taxpayers money. Did you expect any less with more?
No, not injured or light duty! They got themselves a better deal..no nights, weekends or holidays! Best of all for them...they don't have to worry about making a mistake that could be fatal. They have an eraser at the end of their pencils and are getting paid for performing a much more responbsible job than they actually do. This is rampant all over Nassau County and NYS Civil Service should look into it. This is what Tom Williams was doing when Suozzi fired him, cooperating with the Union to address these inequities that make for HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENTS! Another lawsuit waiting to happen.

So these are people working out of title? I guess you're the auditor? or a co-worker complaining about this.
Not the auditor...or a co-worker. It is rampant all over the county. Someone with same title as you, gets to do lower level job, make their own hours to fit their family life, never work a holiday, never make a crucial decision, AND GETS PAID THE HIGHER SALARY. It creates hostility all over the workplace. It fosters resentment and makes the person actually doing the job to want to be PAID more!
As a taxpayer ...it is a disgusting waste of resources. If you read any of Weitzman's audit you will find he hits the nail on the head with these positions. He favors putting these people back to work in their hired titles but it rarely happens. It damages those doing the hired job and lawsuits have been filed and others are coming.
Corbin and Altmann should s____can Karl Kampe.
