more like she's gonna move to valley stream
it's just a question of who makes it to the mayor's office first.
can you say clinton part II
that statement in the Newsday was disgusting!
YRs work very hard and for Parola to say that is insulting to all the YRS who have worked hard thus far...
no wonder Chris resigned...

Do you think that Parola's remark was directed at Bastardi?

I agree that Parola's comment was total BS. If you want a strong party, you better have a strong minor league system to develop talent. I don't know why Bastardi resigned, but this is yet more evidence of how the Nassau GOP continues its downward spiral. Of course, young republicans (and young dems for that matter) want to be stars. Since when is being young and ambitious a bad thing? It's only the old guard like Parola that are way past their prime that are threatened by the next generation. The old guard needs to know when it's time to move out of the way for the next group. Parola's still living in the 70's. Times have changed buddy.... look at the elections results you moron.

The problem with today's YR's is the same problem with the younf in general.
Little work, expect everything.
20 years ago, the YR's numbered 100's who worked hard for the party and candidates.
Train stations, walking, supermarkets, they worked hard.
Today's YR's numbers dozens, and even less who actually show up and help candidates.
However, they do feel like they know it all.
But this is the sentiment of today's youth.
The YR's may have some valid idea's, but the only want people to accept what they want, rather than work with people.
They also have a habit of bad-mouthing people, which always leaks out.
Lastly, they have to receognize the are an arm of the GOP, not the GOP.

for the longest time the county party ignored the yrs and their work and individual candidates reached out to them on their own and helped them out.
many officials supported the yrs, it's just the "big man" who lived in the bubble that didn't
i don't think parola caused bastardi to leave, he has too much class to let an idiotic comment in newsday make him resign.
i think it is just symbolic of the general frustration the rank in file republicans have with the party and they want out

Hey Steve L., nice post. How're they hangin'? The YR's of the late 70's - mid 80's ROCKED!

Mabye right, but these YR's need to rock now, not just complain about how "nobody listens to us", or "if they would listen to us we would have won"
They can't even get people to go to train stations.
But, man do they like to brag about "how much they do"

I was talking to someone at Town Hall today and was told that Chris may be working out a deal to run for Assemblyman Barra's seat if Barra runs for Congress against McCarthy.

They're blowing smoke up his *ss. The kid's too green and a bit of a whiner. Ali Mirza could beat him.
ok chris would have no chance at winning a seat for at least a couple of years if any one is up to run out of valley stream its tim mcgrath
If I'm not mistaken, didn't Chris run Barra's last campaign?
So obviously he knows the district.

Tim is not up to it. Too many skeletons in the closet.
Has he passed the bar yet?

Valley Stream is changing and Bastardi is easily tared as a hack with no expericne outside of no-show jobs.
Would Barra really give up a sure-thing job for a Becker-like loss to McCarthy?
actually.... Bastardi works for a private consulting firm with his Masters degree.... people check your facts before insulting...
he works hard and many hours working for corporate adn political clients and just came off managing a campaign in westchester....

No way, Barra doesn't have the ..... to do that. Nothing to challenging for him.
He will run on Deans coattails till he dies.
The guy is a boob, could you imagine him debating for a congressional race. I can't stop laughing.
which is EXACTLY the reason why we need new blood... young and intelligent people to run.... like bastardi.... or even more likely, his new fiance Nina petraro....

Barra is an assembly backbencher, plain and simple. He's not out in front on anything and there's no way he can raise the money to fight a congressional race. McCarthy is pretty well liked... sort of a maternal figure that people will vote for even though she doesn't actually stand for anything (except gun control). Barra is a lousy public speaker and fat slob. Yeah, maybe the party faithful will vote for him, but no one else will. He should stick to his insurance and assembly jobs.
As for Bastardi, if Barra is dumb enough to try to run against McCarthy, Bastardi should definitely step up to the plate. What does he have to lose?? The Democrats aren't thinking about Assembly races right now. They are going to throw out some underfunded dude to get his ass kicked in just so they can have a name on the ballot. That's all. It's a sure thing and even if Bastardi loses, lots of people lose their first race.
people on this post are criticizing Barra for not being proactive and out there enough....
and then criticizing yrs like Bastardi and Petraro who are very active, 'in your face", young, vibrant....
its one or the other.....
i would pick the latter....

Let's do a little survey to see what sort of "reforms" we might put on our agenda.
Do you favor or oppose term limits for State/County Legislators, Town Boards and School Boards?
Do you favor or oppose lowering NY State's notorioiusly technical barriers to ballot access, by say substantially cutting the number of voter signatures required to obtain ballot access, or even simply requiring a fee in order to get on the ballot?
Do you favor or oppose changing the State Election Law to provide for a primary election when a legislative seat becomes vacant during the course of a term, thereby circumventing the power of party committee chairmen to personally appoint possible successors to State Senate, Assembly and town board?
Do you favor or oppose changing the State Election Law to replace the process of appointing people to vacant positions on town boards and school boards, and replacing it with a system of elections whenever such a seat becomes vacant?
Should the upcoming election for the Chairman of the Nassau County Republican Committee be held by secret ballot among the committeepeople, or should Joe Mondello be allowed to choose his own successor?
Young Republicans have always stood for something. They haven't just been followers of someone.
As far as reform goes, I think we should all endorse the recommendations in the Brennan Report. This is going to be the primary platfrom Suozzi runs on, but on this issue he's right. Even if you hate Suozzi, you can still support these reforms by backing Patrick Manning in the Republican primary. Albany is a sesspool of patronage and place our tax dollars go never to be seen again. Clearly, some things need to be done to fix the system.
