Why can't we just work as one and cut the bad mouthing of each other. I am a volunteer in Suffolk County. I love what I do and will never give it up because some people are just to narrow minded and have to many opinions that are only ment to cause a problem. I have no problem with the EMS System being paid and Volunteer. The paid protion is a nessary evil. If it were not for the paid portion of the EMS System alot of the companies would be shut down and the community would be the one that would suffer! Those volunteers who are so against paid are the ones who do nothing about the shortage. I just want to say if you are in the EMS System either paid, volunteer, Fire, or Ambulance. We all are doing a service to our communties at that is all that matters!

What we need is a unified system, with one dispatch agency, computer aided dispatch, system status management, electronic PCRs, a medical director that has authority over the system, standardized training for providers, with QA/QI, (making providers responsible for their actions), and third party billing to support the budget. Unless the above are instituted, we will always have an uneven, patchwork of an EMS system, where the patient does not get proper service (in a timely fashion) for their taxbuck!

finally a post that we can continue. I believe REALEMS hit it on the head. The problem is getting off this site and meeting to organize a well thought out plan to present to REMAC and the County that everyone will buy into. I remeber years ago when this was just a thought in the minds of a few Paramedics. Maybe its time to make some movement. does anyone have any suggestions on which way to go next?
