This is to make the tax payers of Suffolk aware what is going on. All of the Police academy recruits have been pulled out of the academy for holiday foot patrol. These recruits are not even New York State Certified Police Officers. Whose Idea was this? STEVE LEVY. This opens the police dept to some heavy law suits. They do not even have the laws of arrest block...WAKE UPThe way we are doing it in my pct, the ppos are with a regular officer and are just window dressing for the season, its not the 1st time they've been used, in the city they were used right after 9/11, they are not be certified, and they wont be until after field training which is concluded several months after they are out of the academy. But they are sworn members of the force with all the same powers as any other cop.i

How do I tell the difference between them and a normal cop? Different shoulder patch, no gun, no bagde, etc?

Also what communities get foot patrols?

NYPD has been doing that for years...no gun no shield and academy uniform.

There is no way to tell the difference unilike teh city the new cops have all guns and equipment and have also had all laws of arrest it is the 1st thing you learn in most academys

there is no difference between them and regular cops they all have their badges, patches etc. they are missing their collar brass thats all.
i'd imagine at least 40-60% are from other police jobs like every other class.

The minimum training time (well exceeded by Nassau,Suffolk,NYC) that BMP requires is 440 hours. For all of you liberal non-math majors that equates to 11 weeks at 40 hours per week. To break it down into little parts for you. A person could get sworn in on January 1, 2006 and not have to start the academy until the beginning of September. During that time they are empowered to go out on the street and without any training whatsoever perform all of the duties of Police Officers.

I dont bother with 440 hours of training, the state gives me a waiver since most of my officers have years of experience in law enforcement, such as Arrow and Pro-Tek Security
