It's nice to see that some of our younger voters are reviving the once influential group.

New blood is a must, and the President and her group seem to be taking a step in the right direction.

Let's all remember to vist there website and support them.

If we don't, there will not be any future.

Rumor has it the new Nassau Young Republicans have proved themselves and have gained the respect and support of the big wigs in the Nassau GOP. Will they be the future leaders or candidates in the party? or will they get sucked in to the games of their predecessors? time will tell.

Thank you for your interest in the newly revived Nassau County Young Republicans. I firmly believe that our organization represents the revitalization of the Nassau County Republican organization as a whole. For many years, our club was the pride and joy of the Republican leadership in Westbury. Unfortunately, over the years, participation had dwindled. At this same time, we witnessed our Republican committee begin to suffer defeats on account of poor leadership in Nassau County executives office. However, all of that is behind us. The YRs are determined to help Republican candidates win all over this county. I believe that the more involved we become, more new energy and potential new leaders will come with it. Hon. Chairman Mondello has committed our party to moving forward and revitalizing the core principles that make Nassau great. We hope to be there to work with him every step, and politics as usual, as you mention, simply will not play a role. The YRs are on the move, and you'll be seeing much more of us in the near future.

Alex P. Vassallo

Financial Secretary, Nassau Young Republicans

I've heard that this group of YRs has done a good job and is very anxious to be a productive part of returning the Nassau GOP to prominance.

Good luck to Nina and her fellow YRs. It is good to see civic minded and politically interested young people get involved in the process.

That is by far the most hysterical post I've ever read on this board.

That's right, blame it all on Tom Gulotta.

Joe Mondello forever - there's still the 50% of the public offices he hasn't managed to lose. Four More Years!

also, more young people are now republican than democrat, so that as democrats pass on, there will be more and more republicans!!

One thing you can say about the YRs that you can't about the GOPers at Post Avenue...they got the look...I saw the YR President Nina Petraro at the North Hempstead fundraiser last week...one hot Republican.

To young dem jeff,
I am 26 and was a Dem in college. As time passed, I began to see that the Dems were the wrong choice for me. After Sept 11, while at work 3 blocks from the WTC where I watched as "crazy" islamic fundamentalist flew planes into the buildings and killed 3000 people, i decided to back Bush on this "crazy" war.
p.s. - most of my young friends back him too.

Mr Republican
10-29-2002, 02:06 PM
This group, from what I have heard, is filled with do-nothings. Nina Petraro suceeded Donna BUtler, who word is, went crazy and ran away to somewhere in the third world. Petraro promised a real Republican whom I know help in finding him political employment, then left the person hanging. He ended up sitting around all summer because of her incompetance, and he is a much stronger Republican ideologically than any of you and happens to be a loyal member of the machine. As all who know me can confirm, I am a loyal Republican who supports Chairman MOndello, Pete Schmitt and Supervisor Guardino, and supported Blakeman and Gulotta. For the YRs to do this is unexcusable, and goes agaisnt everything that our machien stands for. Petraro and her ilk are unworthy of us, we who have prodcued great men like Al D'Amato, J. Russell Sprague, Margiotta and Wilbur Doherty. I welcome a debate with any so-called YRs who are on this site

Worried Dem

I am a Democrat who is the same age as a member of the board of the Nassau County Young Repubs. I went to school with this individual and witnessed his far-right ideology in the classroom and in clubs. He was a nice guy, but scary. Not scary so mcuh for his views, but for the way he can bring others to his side.

I am worried as a Democrat and wish my party would start talking about building and stop these moronic sexual inuendos.

I recently read in my local paper how my former classmate was able to work with the Young Republicas and totally turn around voter registration numbers in our high school.

This scares me. They are mobilizing and the only attack the Democrats have is to make idiotic references about the club president. Is this all my party has?

Be afraid, very afraid. If these Republicans are anything like this person, they are pro-gun, against a woman's right to choose, pro-rich and against education. We need to fight back...I've seen how stong he is!

Young Republican
11-03-2002, 01:13 PM
the young republicans have values, ideals, ideas and they work hard!!

and the dems are split between morons who make sexual comments (even worried dem agrees!!) and those like worried who think there is something wrong with being pro-gun! i guess he doesnt know that innocent people use guns over 2,000,000 times a year to protect their homes and families!

what you call a woman's right to choose, others call pro-abortion. do you also support partial birth abortion, where a baby's head is crushed before delivery?

what does pro-rich mean? the republicans are supporters of the middle calss, while democrats want to take our hard earned money and waste it!

and what does against education mean? i'ts the democrats who dont want any incentives to try to spur failed schools

instead of cliches, talk real issues - if you can!

and yes be afraid! cause republicans, especially young republicans, have ideas for the future, all democrats do is try to scare people into voting for them with wild statements about republicans wanting to starve the poor and the elderly and being agains education. how does it feel worried dem, to be part of a failed liberal movement?

Nothing says brainwashed like a young republican. I have tendencies to the right, but I can see both sides of the issue. Listen, I don't agree with a lot of democratic policies, but they are doing what they do in the best interest of the people, misguided or not. You make it sound like there is a war being waged between Democrats and Republicans and the booty is the common man.

Worried Dem,

Would the YR you are worried about be Chris Bastardi of Valley Stream, the darling of John DeGrace. I've heard he is often given prime coverage at meetings by DeGrace and that DeGrace is looking for a future candidate from V.S., especially since Valley Streamer Tim McGrath failed the bar exam and is nothing more than a pet of dean skelos and bob barra. The only other known member of the club is don clavin who already is in office.

Personally, given Bastardi's aggressiveness, which I've witnessed first-hand I'd like to see him and McGrath square off in a GOP primary for the Assembly after Barra leaves. It would be great! A young, smart innovative campaigner with a base of YRs versus a guy whose only claim to fame is his daddy (congressman McGrath), who is known more for his drinking and attraction to young females than anything else.

run, bastardi, run!

<<we young republicans care about people, thats why we work so hard!!>>

While I appreciate your work ethic, it is shared by your peers from other political realms. There are plenty of Reps, Dems, Greens, RTLs, and of course IPers who work very hard and work in the best interest of the people. Sorry, but my interpretation of your message was "The only party who cares about the people is the Republican Party, period."

You further prove you unwillingness to budge when you said <<stop pretending to be independent when you arent!>>. What is the basis for that? I merely asked you to see both sides of the issue. Isn't that the epitomy of independence? Just for the record, my username is NYIndependence meaning the third largest party in NY, not a "blank" independent with no political affiliation.

in your initial post you stated that democrats are doing whats in the best interest of teh people, as if republicans arent!

also, why do you say young republicans are brainwashed? it seems to me that democrats are the knee jerk party, who act without thinking. i and my fellow young republicans actually think and discuss issues and then decide.

so why dont you explain, what do you mean about brainwashed? what do you mean about a war being waged?

you pretend to be looking at the issues but still havent proven that your comments are anything but rhetoric since you dont explain them. will you explain them this time??

also, why are you in the independance party? do you follow one of your party's leaders leona funari? or are you a pat buchanan type? or a tom golisano, i change my stripes every time i run for governor type, but im really trying to increase busincess for my company paychex type of independance? what does you party stand for exactly???

Hmmm... Pat Buchanan, Independence party? If my memory serves me correctly, the IPNY endorsed John Hagelin in the 2000 Presidential Race. Don't let facts get in the way of your arguments young republican. Pat Buchanan was a Republican from the day he was born until about 2 years ago, so would you say that you agree with his ideology?

Since this thread is no longer about the young republicans and instead about my own political views, I suppose I must present/defend them now. I am a centrist. Socially, I am somewhat liberal, but I also believe in a strong national defense, Reagan economics, and end to abortion. On the other hand, I support the search for renewable enegy, gay rights, and protecting the environment. If you had to label me, my political beliefs would be very similar to my personal heros John McCain and Colin Powell. Unfortunately, the Republican party has been less than accomodating to these men and I realize that there is no room for a moderate like myself in the Republican party. So I'm asking you nicely, please stop labeling me a Democrat and begin calling me an Independent as you rightly should.

Last time I checked, Colin Powel was Sec of State. There is room at the inn, for those who choose to come in. The only people who say there is not room are the Dem who continue to try and paint the party in a different lite. They continue to try and promote class warfare.

Two weeks agoSec of State Powell is called an "Uncle Tom" because he works for Bush. Where is the outrage from the Dem's. None. So if you are a black Rep., it is ok to be called this. I think not.

Over the weekend Jesse Jackson Jr says if teh GOP takes over the Senate, segregation will return. Is that accurate. No. Is there anyone challenging this statement from the Dems. No.

Finally, the campaign manager for Kennedy(D) in Maryland calls her opponent a Nazi. Where is teh outrage from Dems, none.

It is truly the Dem's who have a closed door policy, you are either with them or you are called racist or sellout. this is outrageous.

But as somewhat liberal Gov Ptaki shows, he can attract voters from both sides of the fence.

It seems to me that most of the people in this board are dumb and politically naive, but its time to move on to broader issues, like the election of the Democrat-pigs Spitzer and Hevesi.
Both of these cows are true showboating tax and spend liberals who kowtow to the so-called Rev. I was there too, and was in the phone room where the YR were working the phones... the YRs were pretty much ignored during and after getting phone calls, but then again, any given member of the party was in all the hustle and bustle on the stage. I wouldn't have wanted Mondello to thank them personally, because he had to announce candidate victories and make gloating phone calls (fun stuff); I'd say that he appreciates the YRs as young grassroots campaign help who just happen to be under 18 and a good PR story.

You would think that a Young Republican's Club would take the opportunity to leave the vestigial GOP Machine behind. Apparently, not. So, as long as Mr. Mondello is spoken in reverential tones by the YR Club, please count this YR out. What's it going to take to have Republicans rise up and get rid of all the pigs that have been feeding at the trough for so long? Why do we have to repeat the mistakes of our fathers? So, because we're all on the same team and the goal is to elect a Republican, then we have to put up with Joe Mondello and his henchmen?

How about taking one on the chin, licking one's wounds and getting up stronger--having purged that which forced you to lose in the first place--namely, the collective bad taste in the mouth that the Nassau County Republican machine has wrought?

To use a sports analogy: How about a rebuilding year where we let the young' uns take their licks?

Wouldn't losing the highest position in the county be enough of a wake up call to say "Hey Mondello, buh bye" ? Al Gore actually won the popular vote, yet the Dems have dumped him, 'cause he didn't win(*). Suozzi bucked the Dem powers-that-be that had anointed confirmed bachelor Tom DiNapoli as CE nominee, then rallied around him as their candidate.

Surely, there must be some Republican who can rise up and say "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."
