View Full Version : TOBAY GOP made the right choice w/Faughnan
TOBAY GOP had it right When they picked beth Faughnan to run for the Council Seat. She is young, smart and attractive and shell go far in Nassau Politics.
Its about time we had some fresh blood. Good for the Oyster Bay GOP.

Nonsense.
Nothing against Beth Faughnan - she may be a very nice lady and hopefully even an effective, wise and caring councilwoman, but as a TOB resident and voter, I'd never even heard of her. I still know nothing about her and have never even seen a picture of her until the Newsday election summaries. Was she out there campaigning? Did she have a message? I wouldn't know.
That fact is it doesn't matter who Beth Faughnan is. With their bully tactics and stronghold of blind deaf and dumb lemmings in Massapequa, Bethpage and Hicksville, TOBAY GOP would have "won" this election even if they ran Zippy the Chimp against Abraham Lincoln.
That being said, TOBAY registered Republicans are slowly beginning to wake up out of their GOP trance, as a large percentage of them voted Democratic this year. It may not have been enough to shift the election outcome, but enough mark a trend and to make GOP gang leaders take notice.
And frankly (and very seriously) - one party rule - no matter which party - makes for very, very bad and dangerous government. Ask anyone from Iraq or any communist country (and before you say TOBAY is not Iraq or a communist country, just take a look at the rough and unscrupulous tactics TOBAY Republicans already use. Right now, the Town of Oyster Bay is in serious trouble and there is no one to blame but thoughtless lemming voters.

How silly to say a large % of Tobay Reps voted democratic this year. This was Vendittos largest victory margin. He won better than 2 to 1. These were some of the best numbers since the mid eighties when Colby ruled.
Mary M the only Dem went out very easily. She lost by almost 8K. She had no message no name rec no accomplishments. She barely ran ahead of the 2 other dems who had nothing going for them.
O.B is now the most solid rep area and I don't see any Dem candidate on the horizon to give a serious challenge.

Look at the numbers. The ratio of dem votes vs rep votes was greater than the ratio of registered dems vs registered reps.
But, this issue was an aside. The poster was pointing out how, with less than ethical rep tactics, anyone running on the rep ticket would have won. I agree.
In a blowout Suozzi year, Venditto and crew kicked butt.
Analyze the numbers any way you want, they add up to no democrats in TOB.
Venditto and crew kicked butt.
Exactly. Dems don't take that "kick butt" attitude. Reps take that attitude a little too literally.
This isn't a footbal game. Sadly, Republican lemmings think it is and to hell with the consequences.
Really. Did you ever hear the way your idol Tommy Suozzi talks?
Kicking butt is very mild language compared to his diatribes.

but that would require that you knew the real Tom Suozzi, not the guy who Newsday loves.
Right. The Suozzi who still wants to know where Mrs. DiNapoli is!
What a fraud. If only the public knew.
Nice young lady, really polite, educated (chalk one up for the perky Locust Valley YR, her mom would be proud) However, is she still with Meyer, Tommy, English, Klein..............Did her dad retire from the county Planning dept.?
And did Jeff Forchelli have anything to do with her nomination? Just Asking? Things we should be told before election day.

WOW. Venditto beat a candidate that didn't campaign, barely spent a dime and took the ballot spot as a favor. Burke didn't run. Can't be too proud of beating a non-entity candidate.

People have been saying since the Election results came out that Beth was in consideration for elected positions over the past few years. Looks like she could be the "Kate Murray of Oyster Bay!"

FYI Beth left MSE&K to devote her full time efforts to getting elected and worked her tail off to win the vote. Regardless of what you may think of the republican machine in OB (they are as bad as the machine in TOH as far as I am concerned), this gal is the real thing: honest, smart, dedicated. OB is lucky to get her rather than the usual hacks.
Beth is the new power in TOB. Look out JV!

Well I didn't say that the Dems put up a good slate, I said that your previous statements were wrong, which they were. The GOP can only run against the Dem ticket. No matter how you slice it the OB REPs are in good shape , the numbers were outstanding and most importantly the Dems have no one on the horizon.

Actually, TOBAY Republicans are in a precarious state, as would any party in a single-party-rule situation, because there is now no one to be held accountable but themselves should any mistakes be made.
With single party rule, the party holding every office, in this case Republicans, there is now no place to go but down. For the party holding no office, in this case the Democrats, there is now no place to go but up.
It doesn't matter whether the ruling party is Republican or Democrat or any other party. Single party rule is bad government and dangerous for everyone - including the party in power. This is where patroniage and corruption and ego based bad decisions erupt at their worst. Oyster Bay voters did not do a smart thing this year. The checks and balances of multi-party rule is essential for good government. In Tobay it may require litigated councilmanic districts to attain it.
Here we go with the council districts again!
The dems had 5 elected officials in TOB. Now they have none.
Clearly the public will vote for both dems and reps.
The dems just are not putting up candidates that are in the mainstream of TOB voters and the reps in office are doing a great job.
By the way, weren't council/legislative districts designed to help minority voiters have a voice in government? Where is the "minority" district in TOB?
Most important about Beth, SHE MAKES KILLER BROWNIES!
Her brownies got more votes than the demcrats.

This is a funny post, saying that republicans are in a precarious state is a joke. They hols everyt seat, they run by near record margins, they easily defeated an incumbent dem. The GOP support was wide and deep.
Councilmatic districts were only odered when miniroty votes were being dilluted, that is not the case in TOB. It is funny how the losers always want to change a game they can't win.

My post had nothing whatsoever to do with either Republicans or Democrats or the quality of candidates. It was (and is) about the dangers of single party rule. It doesn't matter whether the ruling party is Republican or Democrat. The point of my post was that single party rule makes for bad government and it is dangerous - both for the public and for the party in power, whichever party it may be.
By the way, weren't council/legislative districts designed to help minority voiters have a voice in government? Where is the "minority" district in TOB?
Councilmanic districts are designed to provide an equitable distribution of representation (something missing from the Town of Oyster Bay for some time).

Coucilmatic districts have only been ordered by the courts when the courts have found that minority voting has been diluted. This is not the case in TOB and the issue has not come up in many years and when it last did it was soundly defeated.
The GOP won due to the main fact they have run better qualified candidates and the Dems had no real issues to talk about.
