View Full Version : Suffolk Life urges GOP to consider Walsh & Thompson

I am surprised nobody picked up on this weeks editorial by Suffolk Life reminding the readers of the impeccable and solid credentials of Conservative Richard Thompson and Republican Bob Walsh as interviewed two years ago. Suffolk Life strongly urged the GOP to consider these two names for the Second CD race against Steve Israel. Suffolk Life endorsed Bob Walsh in the 2000 Congressional race.
As Wilmot says, "and why not?"

Take,
Walsh is a no-brainer. He would give a strong showing.
Thompson is also a good candidate. He would probably do better then Houser or Gargano, yet I don't know if he would be able to beat Israel.
Thompson can easily win the Conservative Line, however, I am not too sure about the RTL line. He was kind of wishy-washy on abortion. I think he called for an end to partial birth abortion but stopped short on the standard abortion issue.
I DO think that Thompson has been working behind the scenes on something. He kind of turned his back on the Islip Independent Club (WI Republican Club) and I think he has been hanging out with McKay and Donnelly lately. (I could be totally wrong though) He's also been tied up in his sports agent business representing baseball professionals. That could take a back seat as I know he has political inspirations. It's just a matter of timing.
Thompson also has a strong following with good campaigners that know how to pound the pavement and get out the vote. Thompson didn't even campaign last year for DA but still had a decent turnout.
It will be interesting. I think Thompsons' ties to McKay will keep him off the Republican ticket. What's your opinion on Thompson in particular?

I am quite supportive of Rich Thompson.
I know he took a financial beating when he ran for congress and had to look for another job. That has got to hurt when the paycheck stops. So the bottom line is take care of your family obligations first and then seek to grow beyond that. Rich Thompson does just that.
Ideaologically, your also right as I see it. In my opinion Rich needs to move a little more to the right on the Life issue. He is aware of the issue but has not seen fit to go beyond the standard Partial Birth Abortion ban position of the Conservative Party.
I hope one day Rich Thompson will take that one little baby step to the right and recognize the need to defend the most defensless among us.

Take,
What about Rich Thompson's connections. Is he still in good with Donnely? How about McKay? I know the Islip Independent Club turned their back on McKay but I always got the feeling that Rich kept his ties even after the "fight"?

David Wilmott better DARE NOT give a candidate questionnairre to people running only on the Right-to-Life line if he does not also give one to each candidate running only on the Green line.
We had such a fight with him last election cycle. I will not let him get away with it this time without mondo publicity and a huge, activist letter-writing campaign.
