Maybe Dem maybe not

Looking at the base issues of the democratic party I have to ask myself am I really a Democrat.
1. Am I in favor of late term abortions?
2. Do I believe that regulating the personal aspects of others lives falls under the perview of governmet (no routing for your child's team because it can hurt the self esteem of the opposing team)?
3. Am I in favor of Gay marriage feeling that civil unions do not go far enough?
4.Am I in favor of affirmative action and believe that set aside quotas are the only way do address past wrongs?
5. Do I believe that the private sector will not respond when people are in trouble and therfore the government should constantly create new programs to make sure these voids are filled?
6. Do I feel that big government is better?
7. Am I opposed to christmas trees, the word god, or any relection of faith?
8. Do I support a taxpayer funded shape up hall for illegal aliens?
9 do I believe that the government is better equiped to spent my money then I am?
Sorry I just don't agree to these core values?
Real Dem

Here are some real Democratic core values. Not the screed you hear on Faux News.
Stop rewarding companies that send American jobs overseas and reward those that keep them at home. Fighting for higher wages and restoration of overtime pay.
An America where health care is available and affordable, a right, and not a privilege.
Fighting an effective war on terror, not an assault on our civil liberties.
Protecting Social Security
Ensuring a Fair Judiciary. Protecting the federal courts -- including the Supreme Court -- from being stacked by extremists who will erode civil rights. Supporting the appointment of judges who will uphold our laws and constitutional rights, not their own narrow agendas.
Protecting the Environment - Not standing by as decades of environmental protections are rolled back. Fighting for clean air and clean water to protect our families. Holding polluters responsible for their actions.

Better you should ask yourself: Am I illiterate? Clearly a sign of republicanism.

Health care is not a right. That is why making health care "affordable" is impossible. Until politicians figure that out, health care costs will bankrupt this country.
In short, if health care is important to people, they can afford it. The same goes for other necessities such as housing and transportation. Do democrats think owning an automobile is also a right?
Last, affordable health care is not only a democrat issue. George Pataki, a Republican, has one of the most liberal public health care agendas in the U.S. Pataki joined by legislators in both parties loosened Medicaid guidelines, and created programs like family health plus and child health plus, all on the back of the counties and the tax payer. As far as I know, every state senator on Long Island is a Republican. Kemp Hannon is the chairman of the Health Committee in the senate. When it comes to health care these guys all look like democrats to me.

I don't understand why someone would start a thread about "maybe a dem maybe not"
Who cares, all you have to do is register in a party, whats the big deal,,, everything is up to the voters anyway and they always cross party lines to vote for the candidate they like the best.
To the person who started this thread,,,Party registration is not a Religion, and people are individuals, who gives you the right to make guidlines as to who can be a Dem or a Rep for that matter. Good lord , man, find a hobby!!!
maybe Dem

When people do not know either dandidate they vote party lines. So it is important to know what the party's platform is. If you do not believe in what the democrats stand for ie. late term abortions, affirmative action, big and expensive government, Redistribution of wealth ( taking tax dollars from middle class and giving it tothe poor), Gay marriage etc. Then you donot share the values of the democratic party and actually agree with the republicans, So shouldn't you vote with the party who share your values.
By the way the republicans have a very strong environmental record. Many of the environmental initatives in Suffolk were republican, example storm water filters, and the governor has a very liberal plan with health caere plus. People on Long Island should educate themselves as to what the two parties really stand for. All politics are local and our local politicians have a big impact on our daily lives. We have to stop voting agaist our own self interests. We keep asking why our kids can not stay on the Island the Answer is Taxes, Taxes, Taxes, stupid.
