Why the hell would anyone want to vote for a candidate that even before he is elected can not commit to the term he is running for......

see ya later mr. suozzi- he should worry about his own race and not worry about the rest of the ticket!!!!!!!!!!!

Way to go Peterson- before last night I was on the fence- but you won my vote!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10-25-2005, 09:01 AM

Dump the Hump

I was there...he embarrassed Tom about him staying on the full 4 years and shot back at Tom when he tried to accuse him of leaving offive a few years back. He left because his wife had cancer.

10-25-2005, 11:42 AM
Suozzi walked right into that one. He should have been a hell of a lot more careful. But, he is a moron...and morons shoot their mouths off without thinking...as I am sure many on this site would say about me.

Suozzi wins!

Peterson blew Suozzi out of the water

10-25-2005, 04:16 PM
Suozzi was shown to be the small, slick, city politician he is: a do-nothing, lying, corrupt and incompetent boob.

After 4 years he had no record to talk about, and had to hide from the questions. That shows what sort of putz Suozzi is, and why he isn't entitled to another 4 years.

Dump the hump.

Umm.. his wife was diagnosed BEFORE the election. Why did he stand for re-election? Why didn't he say he would not complete his term?
Oh and how is running OTB easier than being Supervisor?

Peterson reached a new personal low by using his wifes illness and death to get out of a sticky situation.

Peterson won. Suozzi was shown to be an equivocator and a meanspirited bully who picked on a guy whose wife died from cancer. But I think the best is yet to come. Suozzi is rattled because the boy wonder was taken to the woodshed. Like any good trial lawyer, Peterson is saving his best bullets for television, and Suozzi's going down like Madonna at Lilithfest.

from the debate
10-25-2005, 10:39 PM
the best part of the debate was when Peterson didn't answer the question about what he would do with the coliseum property. All he did was attack Suozzi. Or, maybe the best part was when he pretended to know anything about HAVA and the 2 different types of voting machines that are being debated on. At least Bruno was honest and said he had no idea what HAVA was.

you're a moron

The Coliseum property is subject to a competitive bidding process. It would be a gross interference with process for a candidate to express a preference for any one of the particular bidders. Only a Suozzi Hack Doofus could utter a statement like that.

[quote="Guest 097900"]Why the hell would anyone want to vote for a candidate that even before he is elected can not commit to the term he is running for......

Why? Here's 2 reasons:

1) because his opponent has ALREADY abandoned one office a week after winning it.

2) The way elections are set up, staggered in years, ALL politics works this way. How are politician ever supposed to move up the ladder unless they run for higher offer while in their current office?!

You know this, and you a-holes cannot be reasoned with.

Uh, that guy didn't bring up Peterson's wife. Peterson brought her up himself, and that is EXACTLY the reason he brought her up. He could use her as an excuse, and anyone who tries to argue against him on this point is considered by morons like you to be insensitive.

If Peterson wants to say that he quit because of her illness, then its perfectly legitimate to ask why he even ran when he knew she was ill. You just don't like it because it reveals his BS.

Let the late Mrs.Peterson lie in peace. Iam sure she suffered during her bout with cancer. As we all know cancer is not applied to one political party or the other!

In the end its the gooding of the likes of Kim Devlin who wrote this into the script, knowing all well the end result of the remark, so it could be debated and spewed, as it is on this board and elsewhere.

Lets look at the real issue, Tom Suozzi has turned Nassau County into Circus Maximus, like the days of old Rome. Though he may think he's the Russel Crow, the caladiator of New World Politics, the Nassau County Taxpayer's are not here to support anyones acting career, if thats what we wanted we would live in LA.

Despite his efforts this is not the LA LA Land that he and his agents at Newsday somehow think it is.

The shit, can I say that?? Has hit the fan for the basic core, the hardworking people of Nassau, and if they are lucking they are leaveing. Who then will pay for the bloated budgets and NYC hacks then??

Lets leave the deceased out of this and focus on the issues!

The Republicans put us on the brink of bankruptcy. Desperate times call for depserate measures. Tom Suozzi called for a one time tax hike to fix the massive fiscal mess the GOP left us. It was a hard pill to swallow, but a pill that needed to be swallowed in order to get us out of the brink of bankruptcy the previous administration left us in.

I think we need to examine this farcical "bankruptcy" issue that the dumocrats like to yelp about, to finally bury it where it belongs.

Nassau was never on the brink of bankruptcy. That mindset was caused by frenzy Newsday created. Nassau's finances were obviously imbalanced as a result of two factors (primarily)

1: The steadfast refusal by Gulotta to increase taxes. He correctly understood the people who elected him and over whom he governed. He understood that Nassau County is simply that: a suburban community, not a city, not part of a city, not a borough and not a wanna be city; government should be kept to a minimum while providing essential services. Gulotta did that with aplomb. If he is to be faulted for anything it's for NOT RAISING taxes. That's fine with me.

2: A crushing decision made by an outside arbitrator regarding police salaries.

What should be remembered is that both NYC and Orange County, California, the two biggest cities/counties in the entire United States WERE on the brink of actual bankruptcy (Orange County actually in bankruptcy), and BOTH were governed by a DUMOCRAT, not a republican.

Corruption? Let's not go there because it's a draw: politicians are corrupt regardless of their stripe. The difference is, as one famous observer noted, there's "good graft" and "bad graft" in government. In other words, with good graft, corruption is irrelevant so long as the trains run on time, as opposed to bad graft where you have poorly run government mired in corruption. Suozzi never learned that lesson, and has his hands all over bad graft.

Fact is, this dunce Suozzi has a bad case of penis envy, and as the executive needs to compete with Bloomberg and others to show the world (his "little" penis world) that he's as good (big) as they are. He does that at our expense by pretending he has a bigger municipality (penis) than Nassau County actually is, and is turning our community into a urban ghetto.

We gave him a chance. Not get him out.

Ahh I see the GOP lie fest continues. Fact is the county was in horrific financial shape. The deficits were out of control, the bond ratings werer in the garbage & we wwere on the brink of bankruptcy because of how bad the Republicans headed by Gullotta screwedthings up. We were rated as the worst run county in the country. Fact is now, we are in much better financial shape, turned the deficits around, had 10 bond upgrades and are rated the best run county in the country

Bottom line on Petey: Did he promise to rescind 19% tax hike? If he didn't, that means he accepts it. Which means he is a fraud.

You are real jackass. Just because someone is diagnosed with cancer - it doesn't mean it's all over. People go for treatment, surgery, chemo, radiation, medication - it takes awhile for it all to happen. People keep on working, living. It's not until all the treatments are tried and the prognosis is either that it worked - either temporarily - your're in remission usually - or in some lucky cases - seems to be gone or what noone wants to hear - sorry - we did everything we could but .... And then you start to gather your time with your loved ones because the hope is gone and all you have is time. YOU are the stupid scum that supports metrosexual, silver spooned brats like Suozzi. Shame on you. You're the one who should be embarassed.

How is running a OTB branch different than running the County's largest township? Is he kidding? What does he do for a living - recruit $65 an hour lawn mowers for the parks department? That's like saying - how is it different - running Federated Department Stores or managing a McDonalds. What a fool.

>OF NASSAU COUNTY
>NASSAU COUNTY EXECUTIVE CANDIDATES’ DEBATE
>October 24, 2005
>
>
>
>
>
> I am in this race because I want to serve you as County
Executive. I have a record I am proud of and put before you with no
hesitation whatsoever. As Town Of Hempstead Supervisor, I had an
administration of local talent who were dedicated to their jobs and to the
citizens we served. Unlike the current county administration, my appointees
lived here in Nassau and had a personal stake in all that they did. It was
an innovative and cost cutting administration - untainted by scandal.
>
>
>
> I had originally planned to talk about my record as Town Of
Hempstead Supervisor and how I held the line on taxes, cut spending, reduced
the size of government and protected the environment But tonight I want to
talk about something else – something that affects us all….public safety.
Public safety was something we used to take for granted – until the ranks of
our police force hit dangerous lows under the current administration. I
received a phone call last Thursday from a young father. He said that I
could lower his taxes, fix our parks and freeze our assessments – but what
good is any of it if my family isn’t safe our own home!
>
>
>
> Our taxes have been raised, our assessments hit us every year,
police have been cut and this administration’s answer to public safety is to
lock your windows. What have we paid these high taxes for? What have we
come to if the last thing you do before you go to bed is have to remember to
lock your windows? This is not the future I see for Nassau County.
>
>
>
> The first obligation of any governmental body is to provide for
the safety of its citizens and it must always remain a priority. This
administration – for all its posturing, has failed. It has failed in
keeping us safe, it has failed in keeping checks on its appointees, it has
failed in maintaining our parks, it has failed in providing affordable
housing, it has failed in designing the Nassau Hub in a way that fits with
our suburban way of life, and it has failed to be in touch with the needs of
its residents.
>
>
>
> As your county executive, I will not put my family or yours at
risk by dismissing public safety. I will keep our taxes in check by
reducing wasteful spending within the county government. I will work to
maintain the way of life that we all value. I ask for your vote and would
be honored to serve you. Thank you.

Peterson put it simply
10-28-2005, 09:04 PM
If your idea of the future of Nassau County falls along the lines of living in the Bronx - then vote for Suozzi.

If your idea of the future of Nassau County is to preserve the surburban environment and foster a safe and healthy community for our children to grow up in - then vote for Peterson.

If you want a County Executive - vote for Peterson.

If you want to give Suozzi a $130K a year to spend his time campaiging out of town at the expense of what goes on in Nassau County, and let some NYC rejects run it in his place - GO WITH HIM!
