As usual, DT, you hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, those of us who are disgruntled, disgusted or just plain pissed off have nowhere to work for change. 10 years ago, the Independence Party looked like the answer but, since then, with the infighting between Kapsis and Peragine being no more than an example, it has become nothing more than a low rent version of the Big Two.

I can't recall a time when I was more discouraged about political life. I am at a loss.

That's why Rocco Iannarelli is gonna give Suozzi a run for his "Tony Bennett" money. He's not a Republican, he's not a Democrat - he's a Nassau County resident first!

Suozzi's carpetbagging government and the greed of the big Two (and a half) aren't the only problems in Nassau. Look at special districts and you find mean incompetent government at its worst.

What is supposed to be the farm system for the major parties is more corrupt and closed-minded than the town or county governments. AND there is precious little oversight or reason to change. These are the people who will eventually run your larger governments.

I agree with the Bill Bratton principle (wrongly attributed to Rudy Guiliani) that if you take care of the small stuff, the bigger issues will follow.

But as long as we all neglect the villages and fire, school, water, library, garbage, parking, etc. districts, we will just be bailing with a thimble.
