If you go to the Merrick LIRR station right now, you will see the North Bellmore Fire Dept. Chief's SUV parked by the eastern-most staircase. Now, ignoring the simple question of whether or not it is being used for personal use, I am most troubled by the sticker on the back of it "Firefighters For Peterson."

Do you think it's right for a taxpayer-purchased vehicle to be fastened with such outright political propaganda, regardless of party affiliation?

I sure don't.

Who is?

What about the fact that Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman drove his county car, paid for by the taxpayers of Nassau County, to his own fundraiser in April? Republicans and Democrats both do it, it's nothing new. Such issues are so minor that if either side blames the other side, it's considered to be a desperate act and doing anything to get a news story. Fact of the matter is, is that because this always happens, regardless of party, the average Joe voter doesn't care!

I don't see Little League coaches using league-financed pitching machines for their personal use, do you?

Did you ever visit the Hempstead Town Hall Parking lot on any given workday?

There's AT LEAST fifty carsin that lot, "official" plates and all, with orange and blue bumper stickers on 'em -

names like "Murry"and "Pedesen" -

prob'ly 'cause the drivers want to keep the perk of a car
(even tho they're mostly old Chevys from the '80's)

but you know how you can tell the public servants who have a conscience?

They only "tape" the bumper stickers to the inside of the windows, so's on the weekends, when they drive to their personal business and errands and all, they don't hafta shill for the bosses.

Like that Nassau County SUV was spotted in the Disney World parking lot last year - no bumper stickers in sight, except the one that says "We "heart" Mickey!"

Why is Greg Beckers' town of Hempstead paid for car home every day by 2:PM when he has a job that pays him 90 grand?

Most fire districts do not allow any unauthorized decals on the vehicles. Chiefs seem to forget that the chiefs cars are not theirs. They only use them during their term as chief.

Does the Levittown Fire Dept. still run the Confederate flag at the fire truck parades proudly displaying themselves as the "Rebels."

Only when they travel through Uniondale and Hempstead.
